About the author

Margaret Tempest was most known for illustrating Alison Uttley's Little Grey Rabbit books. She studied at Ipswich School of Art and then the Westminster School of Art. She died in 1982.

A reproduction of an alphabet book originally published in 1948. The illustrations are adorable, using woodland animals in everyday activities to represent each letter.

For each letter there is a sentence with a name and another word for that letter except they cheat at the end and just say, XYZ are off to bed!
