Can we really trust Genesis as the literal history of the world? Many modern scholars and scientists would have you believe that you can't, but this fascinating expository study by Paul F. Taylor lays all doubts about the authenticity of the Bible to rest. Follow this spellbinding, verse-by-verse study Taylor takes you on from the Garden of Eden to the Fall to the Table of Nations.
Representative quote: "Without opting for the moment for my preferred answer to Olber’s paradox, I want to mention that Olber’s paradox is a considerable difficulty for the evolutionary belief system. Big-bang cosmology suggests an unbounded universe with no center. Thus, it should be possible to see a star in every possible direction one looks. This would make the night sky light all over. In fairness, it should be pointed out that big-bang cosmologists do address this problem. They point to the evidence (which creationists do not challenge) of red shift amongst stars. Thus, the light of many very red-shifted stars does not reach the earth. So it is not that big-bang cosmologists have no answer. It is simply that I think one possible creation cosmology has a better answer."
In this excellent book, the author explains how important it is to realize that chapters 1--11 in the book of Genesis are historical narrative--true history--and not a poem or mythology. He methodically discusses each day of creation, the fall and curse, the great Flood, the Tower of Babel, and all the genealogies. The book is well-written, very readable, and fascinating. An excellent resource.
This book is a comprehensive commentary on the first ten chapters of Genesis with a young earth creationist worldview. Chapters 1-8 cover the Biblical account of the six days of creation and it explains each verse or section of verses from a scientific view point. Chapter 9 covers the 7th day of rest. Also covered are the Garden of Eden, a brief history of Satan, the flood, after the flood, the tower of Babel, and so much more. Some of the scientific language used would be difficult for middle school students to understand, but would certainly recommend for high school students to accompany any study of the origin of life or as an alternative to the evolution theory taught as fact by most science curriculum.
I enjoyed it immensly as it's a subject that fascinates me. I have read read a lot of other Creation materials so there wasn't much new information in it. I had hard time understanding the aging process because of the changes in the atmosphere, though. That part was a little too scientific for me but the rest of the book was very readable.
a great beginner book to deciding whether the Bible is the accurate word of God. This book claims that the beginning of the Bible is historically true - and the author gives reasons for this. Very good reasons. I'll be referencing this book for years to come.
Creation science isn't my cup of tea, I guess. I prefer the dim and distant past to be mysterious. Genesis gives me answers to the human condition and a healthy world-view. To read a lot of exact detail into the text seems like a waste of time.
