A Treasury of American Anecdotes

Rate this book
1985, hardcover reprint edition, Castle / Book Sales, NY. 321 pages. Here is a very nicely done title, a collection of more than 400 anecdotes, many appearing here for the first time. This is a primer of storytelling and a "... cracker barrel history of America." The author, before his death in 1975, edited more than a dozen folklore collections. Here is a terrific source book, offering brief accounts of cracker barrel philosophy, very cool customers, a few fools, some real whoppers, more than one hero, some bureaucrats, storytellers, and a scattering of bits and pieces from the bar room and barnyard. An absolutely fascinating book to dip into repeatedly.
