"Composting" begins with the least-maintenance method--pile up dead leaves and grass trimmings in a corner of the yard and let nature do its work--and graduates to those methods that require more involvement but also yield greater and faster results. It covers materials suitable for compost; how to achieve the proper balance of carbon, nitrogen, water, and air for fastest decomposition; how to monitor and adjust the pileis heat; as well as common problems and what to do about them.
I've had this book for several years and I'm playing catch up now that I've retired. I'm very interested in permaculture and being good to the earth using and reutilizing my resources. Really wanted to try to understand some basics on composting, and this book met my purpose. The edition I have, I just noticed, was published in 1997, but I feel confident I still received the basics!
This is one of several books I've checked out of the library that deal with composting. I have said that that I'd like to try composting next summer, but am toying with the idea of beginning this fall (I'm thinking ahead to the mountain of leaves we'll have in October).
