Nostalgic as HECK

Loved the characters and the cool fantasy spin on my favorite sport! So nostalgic from my college ultimate years, it takes me back!

This book filled me with pure enjoyment while reading every page. It was great to be brought back and remember what it was like when I first started to learn about Ultimate and everything that surrounded it. I think Zack put it best when saying "If you’ve ever heard two [ultimate players] speak, you’d swear you didn’t understand a word of your own language." Stepping into the Ultimate world can be daunting at first, with it's own vocabulary, but I think Zack does a great job breaking down the game, so someone who had never heard of the sport would love the book and the suspense behind a universe point.
Really thought that the book accurately depicted what frisbee means to a lot of people. There are of course your competitive people, just like in any sport, but the community behind ultimate is something different. Ultimate is so much about the spirit of the game, and I think that that is what Zack captures best here. That you play this sport that not many people know about, or if they do, have no idea about how daunting a weekend-long 8 game tournament actually is. But the pact of people you find in this silly sport, will be with you no matter how heavy the couch you have to carry is.

This book brings back so many fond memories of my time playing college ultimate. Zack does a great job putting into words the thoughts, actions and sequences that happen in games of Ultimate. Nice job Zack, can't wait for what's next!

Spirit Foul perfectly captured the best memories from the college ultimate experience through Zack's descriptions and dialog of characters. Reading about the Showdown tournament got me wanting to cleat up and play again. Thanks for the nostalgia, defining Spirit of the Game, and introducing us to the Rat Star crew.. can't wait for more!

Spirit Foul is the first fiction book I've ever read about the sport of Ultimate, and I can't say I'll bother reading anything else except for potential future sequels. It was a front-to-back joy to read!

This book was a roaring ride down memory lane and had me pining for the years I spent playing college flat-ball. From joining as a timid freshman, to becoming a mentor as I became a senior, the author perfectly captures what it's like to be on an Ultimate team. Oh yeah, and then there's the magic.

I HIGHLY recommend this to any past or present Ultimate player, and especially prospective future players. You will not be disappointed. And the book even explains many of the concepts of Ultimate for those who may not be familiar, so even if you haven't played the sport but are looking for a fun mix of fantasy and mystery, grab a copy of Spirit Foul and take a peek behind the curtain.
