I've read a few things by Charles Saumarez Smith before this and I appreciate his ability to write in an engaging yet deeply reflexive style. Like any wide-ranging academic survey the amount of information given here can in parts become wearisome, but in the main I'd recommend this book to anyone with an interest in the art history, architecture and visual culture of Eighteenth-century Britain.
