The hero Matt has recently moved to a small village as he found it difficult to cope returning to his old life after being held captive in a war torn country for nearly two years. Although his life is still far from peaceful, what with his nightmares, injuries, and his ex-girlfriend still demanding attention. He meets Fliss, the heroine, when her daughter unknowingly disturbs him. Upon learning that Fliss used to housekeep for the previous owner of his house, Matt offers her a job. Both of them are surprised by how much they desire one another as they gradually get to know one another. But Matt is still haunted by events during his captivity and believes he has nothing to offer Fliss, and Fliss doesn't want to be involved intimately with a man after the scorn and trauma she faced when got pregnant at sixteen. Although they become very close neither of them are ready for a relationship.

I really enjoyed this book. What I like most about it is that the plot is very original and a little daring, especially the hero's background. I do think that the heroine's issues were a little shallow and not really explained very well. This is very much a story for the hero, which in itself is enjoyable.
The book is well written with plenty of depth, lots of chemistry between the hero and heroine, and a very satisfying love story.

A sweet story of a POW’s return to society and how finding love helped him make a full recovery.

I loved the h. She was sweet, kind and patient. Exactly what the healing H needed. The h’s daughter, Amy, was also a big help in the H becoming more social since it was easy for him to talk be around a child. He didn’t have to pretend, could relax and Amy had no expectations of him.

The secondary characters were not likable. The h’s father was a spoiled child. He wasn’t totally unkind, but was portrayed as jealous of his daughter and granddaughter’s relationship with the H.

Then there was the OW. The H’s girlfriend from his old life. She grew up with the h and looked down on her because she chose to have a baby at 16. The OW was a bitch! She wasn’t in the story much but left a lasting impression of dislike.

All in all, I liked this book. My heart broke for the H and all he went through as a POW. I liked the h, even though she was a bit standoffish, understandable after the way she was treated at 16. I loved Amy. She’s a sweet little girl who helped the H heal.

4 Stars! ~ ~ Escaping his imprisonment by rebels in Africa, Matt returns to England a different man both physically and emotionally. Finding life in London to be too much, he purchases a home in the country where he finds himself coming alive again when he meets Fliss and her daughter. Fliss has trust issues of her own, and yet when she's with Matt she finds herself yearning for a relationship. This is a great read!

The hero escaped Africa after being imprisoned and abducted against his will. He finds it hard to come back to the 'regular world' so he shuts himself away. When he meets the heroines daughter and then the heroine things change for him and soon things change for the heroine as well.

What can I say? I’m going through my Anne Mather phase.

Loved it.

I had read it before.

But I truly appreciated it only on this rereading.

Heroine (Fliss) was an unwed mother at sixteen. A fumble in the back of a car and she was left pregnant and dumped.
She is now 27 and has a very cute daughter called Amy.

The hero was a prisoner of some rebels in a west Asian or African nation for two years. He was beaten, abused and almost sexually molested. To be without agency and at the mercy of others has made him lose faith in himself. He was a reporter but he leaves his job and buys a big house in the heroine’s village.

He comes from wealth and he buys the house (which is in his girlfriend’s village.) The girlfriend who slept with her boss while he was away and presumed dead.

Hero, Matt, has become impotent. He has nightmares. He is physically weak.

He employs heroine as his housekeeper and there is instant attraction. More from her. But from him too.

Ultimately they have a happily ever after. Her sweetness, her adorable daughter and family are all that he needs.

He is all she needs .. because she fell for him very quickly and it was obvious.

That’s my review.

Need to go. Sorry for not writing it out better. Maybe later.
