I lost count of how many full length photos of Oz Clarke are nestled in the margins and in between columns of text. Note: do not make a drinking game out of it; you will lose.

This is an excellent little book about wine, perfect for the novice wine lover. Although, I am not really sure if you can be a "novice wine lover," at least probably not according to a wine snob. Snobbish this book is not. A connoisseur might not have much use for it, but I found the book to be informative and appealing. Visually the book is very appealing, and the layout is easy to navigate through. It is well-written and even entertaining. I recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about the basics of buying, storing, and serving wines. It is a wonderful book for the fledgling oenophile to start with.

Now that I'm a New York sophisticate (ha), I'm trying to learn some stuff so I can be classy. There's a terrific wine shop on our street and the owner's really friendly -- but I'm not sure I trust his recommendations. So I'm trying to figure out what I like so I can make some picks myself. I'm keeping a little wine journal, too, and right now the entries are like "Smelled good. I bought it because I liked the label. I liked it, but Zac thought it was too sweet." I'm hoping this book will help me improve my wine vocabulary.

If you're interested in the topic, this is a great starter book. Lots of lovely pictures and straightforward explanations of terms.

Very good basic informative book on wine. Gets into the different grapes and what they taste like, the different regions, and what they produce, and has a lot of good information and then suggestions of quality wines. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to form a basic understanding so they can better buy wine they will like.

My wife and I are exploring this book together. We both know very little about wine and want to understand it better. Thanks to this book we are well on our way to doing just that. It's a very interesting and informative book that has
taught us much already--love it!
