Silly Sara spills and slips and trips! Sara is sick of being silly, so she decides to become Super Sara in this beginning phonics reader that promotes word recognition through rhyme.
This is a good book for children who are learning to read, as it is one that they could manage to read on their own. It was not all that interesting and lacked any kind of story line or order. It just kind of went through random events where Sara messed something up and called her silly Sara. This concept is also not one I am sure that little children should think is okay, she made messes and did things wrong and it was all okay because it was "silly". Though somethings that kids do are silly but teaching them that things will always be okay because of this is not a good lesson.
Silly Sara is slice of childhood life book. Spilling smoothies, blowing bubbles and racing scooters are some of the silly things Sara experiences. The book is designed for beginning readers and includes guidance for adult reading support. It bills itself as a phonics reader Step into Reading: Step 2. The first page provides the scope of the reading levels (1-5) in the series.
Sara is very silly!! However, despite the cartoony nature of the illustrations, Silly Sara successfully supports beginning readers (How’s that for alliteration). This phonics reader uses rhyme and alliteration to increase the reader awareness of letter sounds. While it does not list sight words separately, the illustrations directly correlate to the text on the page and build context for story development. The text is large and displayed in strong contrast on the page. Most sentences have six or less words. The author provides examples of the conventions of print (! ? punctuation), onomatopoeia (SLURP), and character conversation in the story(“Hey, you want to race”).

I am rating this book a 4 star because I feel it is a nice 'learning to read' book as it told the basic story of a little girl having fun throughout her day. But the words have either same sounds or same letter sounds. So although a level 2 book, I think with help a level 1 could have fun with this book.
sara is so funny. And I think she has bad luck. I think the author should write more of silly sara books. And one more thing make sure you make one really really really really really funny stories about sara.
Follow Silly Sara in her misadventures in this Step Two Easy Reader from the Step Into Reading series. This book provides a more challenging text, but readers can use the illustrations for help as a guide for learning new words.
