Filled with amazing color photography and detailed illustrations, this fact-filled series is the perfect introduction to amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and other animals. Well-organized and clearly written, these books will answer young readers' questions about the fascinating world of nature. A glossary, index, and summary of key facts conclude each book.
I’m interested in science because it helps us to understand the world. I enjoy finding out about new things and then working out how to write about them in a way that is both clear (and accurate) but which also conveys my own excitement and interest. I particularly like writing books that are fun, and I have been lucky to have had so many chances to do so.
I was born in Yorkshire in England, but grew up in Stranraer, a small town in south-west Scotland. I graduated from Edinburgh University and then came down to London, where I have lived ever since. I enjoy reading novels, watching films, and walking in the countryside.
Simple and succinct descriptions of what mammal is. I liked at the end that how it explained that humans are mammals as well but the most amazing of them all. It asked a leading question at the end: “Humans understand the world better than any other animal. Can we use that understanding to make the world a better place for all animals to live in?” This shows the superiority of humans to other mammals in the Animalia classification, that their job is to care for the earth and what is in it, and is not derogatory toward the human race in general.
This was purchased for my animal classification unit. I normally use posters and 3D models but to do classification virtually, books had to be purchased.
