This is one of those curio books of the 80s. Basically it is a collection of science fiction art work cobbled together with a fictitious storyline / explanation. the commentary is loosely based on the authors own imagination inspired by the images. So why read it - simple it has some of the best science fiction cover art in its pages from the time of printing, from Jim Burns, Chris Foss, Peter Elson and Chris Moore. Though there is no index to the work you will quickly recognise covers from books as wide a spectrum as James Blish to Ray Bradbury.

I own a Space Base 2000 paperback. Its a wreck, but she still flies, with a little bubble gum and duck tape, her outsides still hold us in. A whole lot of luck as well.

Dioecious and Monoecious - the War Between Dioecious based life that is warmed blooded and Monoecious based life that is cold blooded life.

The Terran Colonial III.III converted to a Lagunan research vessel, slowly descends into the nearly ten mile wide crater left behind by a fleeing Lagunan city ship. Deeper into the Abyss the Dioecious descends and is consumed by the perceptive darkness.

Sensors and analyzers chirp on and with the scans being the returned, the ancient mechanical based robot built with modern tech, begins to report.

I think I might have a new connection to the Tree of Life and Creation and quite possibly a reason for the LGBTQ's condition.
In the Bible there are no more than two trees in Eden, one male and one female, the same trees are also found on Earth. Trees that reproduce in the same manner that human males and females produce but differently. Trees and plants and life, including human males and females that reproduces via male and female sex organs are part of the Dioecious sex group.
All animals that live above the ocean require trees to produce oxygen for humans while humans provide a modest amount of carbon dioxide for the trees to grow. Some plants have been known to grow better after being breathed on by humans due to the dense amount of CO2. When breathing on a plant or tree, the effect is basically the same as when you breath on an infant and the infant giggles and squirms. Getting a small dense cloud of carbon, from humans for the tree and oxygen from in the form of wind, the burst of each element is like putting a horsepower booster in your Vet.
Monoecious trees and plants that reproduce new trees and plants reproduce themselves internally because both sexual organs, male and female are contained in the same tree or plant.
During pollination, the wind drives the process of Dioecious via pollen. The pollen would carry Dioecious DNA coding from the male that when the pollen, human semen, finds the female, egg or the flower or plant associated with the pollen's male code, the process of life begins.
When humans' breath in the pollen of Dioecious plants and trees there could be a process that takes place in the brain that incorporates that tingles an aspect of the Dioecious process of male or female into the growth of the human or insect or bird. Trees and plants provide air for us to breath, without air, we couldn't live. Therefore, Dioecious flora and fauna cold be part of the molding process of the process's humans use to breath and convert oxygen into energy for movement.
The LGBTQ could have Monoecious Disease. MD would be a disease based on the DNA coding of Monoecious and Cosexual somehow being able to penetrate the Dioecious part of the brain and tries to overwrite the Dioecious process with a Monoecious reproduction thought process. Monoecious and Cosexual plants and trees produces 75% of the worlds air, but a majority of and nearly all life on Earth is Dioecious. Unless you're a lizard and can create new life in a female womb by using the Monoecious and Cosexual process, then you're Dioecious. The opposite could be true on a planet close or far away. A second planet could be ruled by Monoecious Lizards that have fauna and flora populated with 75% Dioecious trees and fewer Monoecious flora and fauna. Humans with Monoecious Disease would be part of the Dioecious Lizards as elite human servants while other humans would be bred for hunting and festivals. Humans aren't lizards, we are all Dioecious based, one male and one female needed to create life.
I did think that the term homo- sapien, homo-erectus, etc. needs to be replaced with the word Dioecious. Thus homo sapien becomes Dioeciousapien homoerectus becomes Dioeciouserectus.
New life for the Golden Age. If the LGBQT take up the charge of fighting the Lizards Disease and preach and teach the Dioecious process of creation proven trillions of times, they could actually defeat the Biological War mechanism released by the single Monoecious notion of God who wanted all in the Garden to be the same as it, they would have absolute power over the disease controlling them by crushing that evil eye before the storm on the ground before thyself.
Lizards Disease could possibly be cured by harvesting the best pollen from the best Dioecious trees and plants and creating powders that can be breathed in or consumed in food or drink. Studies would have be undertaken to determine how pollen influences the brain processes to create male and female in mammals, insects, birds etc. and why the Monoecious pollen is an invasive type of pollen that infects the brain and makes them act like a Monoecious based tree.
In order for Monoecious Lizards to conquer Earth, they have to populate the Earth with trees and plants that create Monoecious based pollen. Or the Lizards could arrive on Earth and would have to wear a Monoecious suit. The Monoecious based suit would, like the Dioecious suit worn by humans would mix the highest-grade pollen from the highest-grade trees and plants from the Dioecious or Monoecious groups to provide a boost at times, much like the breath on the face of the infant triggers a tingle of energetic excitation. Monoecious Disease does appear to break down the process of knowing that a male human creates with a human female. Thinking a man can create life in a womb with another man without a female is Lizards Disease that is a biological weapon being used by the Sentient Lizards out there somewhere, to cause chaos and disorder in their pre-emptive attack on Earth.

Every nerd I knew had this book when I was a kid and I was no exception. Its best feature is the amazing artwork contained within, but it also had more than a few good science fiction stories as well.

This book holds a big place in my heart as my big brother bought it for me as a kid.

Basically Stewart Cowley has repurposed pieces of sci-fi artwork (taken from books and magazine covers and paintings) and created a world that fits around them.

This is two books joined together.

The first is the guide around a museum of old space ships.
Each page has the piece of (often great) artwork and a fabricated history of the pictured ship.
in the 80s a lot of books for kids were statistic heavy. I had books on tanks and planes and cars and trains all showing a Top Trumps level of information.
This is replicated here.
What I love is the level of detail.
You may get a picture of a sleek star ship blasting an asteroid and in the text you will get a design and service history including tasty nuggets like how an exhaust problem was fixed on the model B version or how 60 ships were ordered but due to budget constraints only 10 were delivered or perhaps this old ship is still in service with outer system police forces.
Even as an adult I lap this stuff up!

The second book is a recount of some conflicts in space (but not the Proxima conflict - a twenty year war that lurks in the background of the first book and facilitated the construction of most of the ships in the museum)
The stories are a little odd as they have to wrap themselves around the pieces of art work associated to them and don't always corelate.
The stories (like the books of the time) are quite brief and to the point: these ships went here, loads blew up, but then a missile hit this capital ship and the battle turned etc. etc.

I have so much nostalgia for this book and (objectively) it probably only deserves 3 of the 4 starts I am giving this - but I don't care.

I have somehow collected other TTA books not shown in the series

This caught my eye at a local library. It looks like an RPG supplement, but it's not at all clear that that's what it is. It reads more like a future history with a very niche focus on spacecraft. I'm not going to lie ... I checked it out to look at the retro space art. Yes, for the pretty pictures. If you're into that you'll probably enjoy flipping through this. There's a one page short story on the last page; the rest of the text is descriptions of the spacecraft and/or explanation of the future history.
