Aiming for Love, Landing in Mayhem

While Valentine’s Day is supposed to be full of romance and flying hearts, this year, Anna finds herself defending a misplaced Cupid, dodging a gang of thieving arrow shooters, and assisting Nick Bassaneli, her stubborn potential brother-in-law, with a bogus murder charge. Meanwhile, she’s trying to find her sexy boyfriend the perfect gift, when all he wants is for her to show up to Valentine’s dinner without danger on her heels.

Speaking of danger, Aiden Devlin is a little too secretive about his newest investigation, and something is hanging heavy over his head, but the stubborn Irishman refuses to share. Anna begins to fear that the ‘bogus’ murder charge might not be so bogus, and Nick truly could be in trouble. Unfortunately for Aiden, the Albertini family is full of self-proclaimed sleuths, and they’re more than eager to crack the case before he can reach his own conclusions.

During the season of love, Anna is forced to juggle her meddling family, solve the puzzle of the chaotic Cupids, save her potential brother-in-law, and arrive at Valentine’s Day dinner in one piece. Hey, miracles can happen.

Habeas Corpus by Rebecca Zanetti
The Anna Alberti Files series #6. Contemporary romance, romantic suspense. Best read in series order for character growth and continuity but can be read as a stand-alone.
It’s close to Valentine’s Day in Timber City, Idaho and Nick is buying a ring, planning to propose to Tessa. While he and Anna are in the jewelry store, a trio of robbers dressed as Cupids, with masks and bows and arrows, rob the store. When the robbers subsequently hit a different location, Anna investigates the Cupids with the help of elderly relatives.
Meanwhile, Nick is being interviewed as the prime suspect, by Detective Pierce about a murder back when Nick was still a teenager. Aiden doesn’t want Anna putting herself in danger but she can’t help getting involved.
It’s a mess of Cupids, murder, and an Interupted proposal this February in Idaho with Anna in the middle of it all.

Engaging, amusing, and with a smidge of suspense, this book will have you trying to read it in one sitting. Anna is just a little bit klutzy and her actions almost always end with her covered in paint, dirt, blood or other objectionable stuff. It makes Aiden crazy but the rest of us find Anna often laugh-out-loud delightful.

This is a well-written, entertaining, steamy, romantic suspense novel. It has a likable, intelligent female protagonist, an engaging male protagonist, murder, mystery, intrigue, wit, a touch of humor, supportive family, and the delightful Nonna. This is an excellent addition to the Anna Albertini Files series and can be read and enjoyed as a stand alone, but it is even better when read after reading the other outstanding novels in this series. I am looking forward to reading the next entry with great anticipation.

5++++-Star rating. Sometimes 5-Stars is just not enough. This is one fantastic book. It has romance, suspense, I laughed, and I cried. This book just did it for me and I trust it will do it for you too. The whole series is about what a wonderful family the Albertini Family is, but Anna is the heart of the series, and she is a wonderful character as are her sisters and cousins, but Anna is the star. I just hope Rebecca Zanetti decides to limit the blood loss in the future books.

Valentine's Day is fast approaching, and Anna Albertini needs a gift for Aiden. One that is unique and heartfelt, but that isn't the most pressing issue right now for Anna. While with Nick Bassaneli at the jewelry store picking up the ring he is going to propose to Anna's sister, Tessa, the story is robes by a trio of Cupid's and Nick is shot by Cupid's arrow and that is literally, not figuratively. Soon after he is stitched up, he is arrested for the 15-year-old murder of his father, whose remains were recently discovered. But with the Albertini clan on the case, Nick's biggest worry, aside from the bogus murder charge, is when and where is he going to pop the question. All Aiden wants for Valentine's Day is his main squeeze in one piece.

The Anna Albertini Files Series :
✅ 1. Disorderly Conduct (2020) - 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ read 16.12.2025
𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐀 𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐀𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐍 - A perfect start to the series, and so funny. Despite all the dangers, I laughed out loud at the actions of our feisty heroine, who seems to have no luck left her. Luckily for her, she has several men around her who care about her. We'll see what happens in the next installment.
✅ 2. Bailed Out (2020) - 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ read 17.12.2025r.
𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐀 𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐀𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐍 -it was a great sequel, the situation thickens, the danger reaches the family and finally we have clarity about Aiden's profession. I liked the fun side. It was a good move on the part of the author to break this tension with a large dose of humor. I like it in my readings.
✅ 3. Adverse Possession (2021) - 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ read 18.12.2025r.
𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐀 𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐀𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐍 -Things are happening, oh so happening, as our heroes face many dangers, including a crazy guy who likes to explode. Luckily, they have each other and the additional support of the ATF SRT agents. The supporting characters also do a great job. And the Elders of both Houses, haha, I love those Ladies.
I love Aiden and his stoic calm and the way he treats Ann. They try to have a serious relationship together, but the past keeps coming back between these crazy two 💞

𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐢 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐬 -I rarely give 5 stars to such short stories, but this one fully deserves it. It's a great addition to the series, and we get a backstory about one of Anna's cousins, a bit about the rest of the family, and a teaser for the next case 🤩👍
✅ 4. Santa's Subpoena (2021) - 5 🤶🤶🤶🤶🤶 read 12/21/2025

The Anna Albertini Files is an adorably funny mystery series featuring a novice lawyer with a penchant for getting into ridiculous situations, and her very large and nosy extended small town family.

If you consider yourself an organized reader, be sure to start with Book 1, Disorderly Conduct, and watch the full story arc unfold with Anna and the citizens of Timber City, Idaho.

Buffyanna's Review of Disorderly Conduct

But can each book stand alone? Absolutely! In my opinion, the mystery and comedic elements in each book can be enjoyed out of sequence à la Terentino. I drop everything to read Anna Albertini!

Habeas Corpus is Book 6 of the Anna Albertini Files so please continue reading only if you are ready for this review.

You have been warned!

Anna and her boyfriend Aiden are finally figuring out life as a couple. Having moved his team to Timber City, Aiden is now based out of the same town as Anna’s fledgling law practice. Aiden asked Anna to move in with him after her cabin exploded in the previous book, so waking up together is becoming a cozy new norm.

But is Anna’s danger magnet status contagious? Because local prosecutor Nick Basanelli gets shot by Cupid while looking at rings with Anna at Duke’s jewelry store. Thereafter, any time he tries to give his diamond to Anna’s sister Tessa, unforeseen obstacles arise. Stuff keeps coming at Nick. He’s not a bad guy, is he? Say it ain’t so, for my heart is set on him being the one for Tessa.

With murders, robberies, and missing weapons (yes, that too) to investigate, Anna would have to sit on her hands to keep out of trouble. Will she succeed? Knowing Rebecca Zanetti’s zany sense of humour, not a chance. Poor Aiden will just have to deal with it.

This is at least my sixtieth RAZ book so one might think I’ll have her figured out. Thank goodness no. Rebecca managed to surprise me again with this latest mystery. Another reason she is one of my favourite people. She’s funny, too. It bears repeating. Habeas Corpus is authentic to the franchise.

Well, I have to start out by saying that I am a very big fan of pretty much anything Ms. Zanetti writes. I have truly enjoyed the Anna Albertini Files. It is such a uniquely funny storyline with a very quirky attorney who seems to ALWAYS find herself in the middle of some CRAZY situations. When I say crazy - I mean that she has been shot (by both guns and by arrows), been kidnapped, she has had dead bodies dumped in her office), So yes....she does find herself in some crazy situations.....much to Aidan's chagrin) This book is no different.

I also will say that I enjoy Anna as the FMC and honestly, and I really like her with Aidan, even if Aidan tends to "go over-protective alpha" on her at times. All of the secondary characters have developed and fleshed out so well throughout the last 5 books, so we now have several fully developed characters that each have their own quirks and traits.

With all of that being said, this book was not my favorite. Did I enjoy it? Yes, actually it is SO crazy, that it's hard not to find things amusing. BUT....and here is the but.....the case itself was the weakest yet in the series. One of the things that makes this series so compelling is that there is usually a serious plot/storyline going on (hence Anna's involvement) and these cases have been interesting, and challenging while we try to figure out the "whodunnit" part of it.

This book has two separate storylines going on at the same time - with Anna being involved in both of them, but when we get to the reveal at the end.....let's just say that I thought, "WHAT?" I mean, yes, if you squint your eyes and try not to think too hard...yes, it can kind of makes sense, but for the most part, it was just too wacky. (Hmmm, that's a sentence I don't think I'd thought I'd put in a review)

Anyway, not going to beat a dead horse because I DID like it. This is another funny, fast paced story that is easy to read/listen to. You do not need to invest too many brain cells while reading or listening and it leaves you with that HEA feeling at the end.

I think I actually just talked myself up a quarter star! Looking forward to book 7 :)

This was another fun book in the series. It's amazing all the bad things that happen to Anna. If I was her friends and family, I would be wary to be around her or want to wrap her in bubble wrap and keep her away from people.

So much craziness in this one, Cupid's robbing businesses and shooting people with arrows. Nick always getting his plans interrupted as he tried to cement his relationship with Tessa and his past coming back to kick him in the ass, the grandmothers butting in, Violet getting scared and not knowing how families work, but learning real quick what being an Albertini means.

Everything gets resolved in a great manner by the end and Anna and Aiden finally say those 3 words we have been waiting for them to.

I waited 8 months to get this book on Libby and honestly, it was really good. It’s the last in the series and I really enjoyed all of the small town, everyone-knows-everyone’s-business vibes. Even though it may be cheesy, I also like the protective man with a heart of gold trope. Sue me.

Loved It

I love this series and all of the characters. Anna is constantly in the heart of trouble and usually ends up getting hurt. She out does herself this time and seems to end up in the hospital every time she turns around.

In this book Nick the prosecutor finds himself to be a suspect in a fifteen year old murder case that involves his abusive father and the woman he was running away with. He's appointed Anna to be his attorney and she questions whether she is in over her head since she doesn't have a lot of experience with this type of case.

In the meantime there is a gang of thieves dressed like cupids robbing area businesses. Nick and Anna are in the jewelry store when they show up to rob it and Nick ends up getting shot with an arrow.

This book is suspenseful with lots of romantic and humorous moments. I definitely recommend reading it as well as the whole series.

Habeas Corpus is another exciting and hilarious installment in the Anna Albertini series. Rebecca Zanetti somehow continues to write a romcom series with a dash of romantic suspense, along with the quirkiest extended family around.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Idaho Attorney Anna Albertini is trying to live a calmer life with her hottie beau Aiden Devlin, she really is. But then she finds herself in the midst of a jewelry store robbery while helping her friend Nick pick out an engagement ring for her sister Tessa. And Nick is a suspect in a murder investigation. Her entire family has thoughts on the matter, and the police want her to stay out of it. And Valentine’s Day is coming and she has no idea what to get for Aiden.

This series combines a romcom and romantic suspense all in one; it shouldn’t work, but it does. Anna’s forays into danger seem inevitable instead of silly, and it’s always entertaining to see what happens next. She has an amazing extended family too; they may be wacky, but it’s easy to see how much they care about each other. And she and Aiden still have great chemistry, even after so many books together.

I always have the best time reading about Anna Albertini’s adventures. If you like a bit romantic suspense with a sense of humor, I highly recommend this series. Rebecca Zanetti writes well in so many genres, and this particular series is one of my favorites.

GAH they finally said I LOVE YOU

I absolutely love this series. Wasn't sure I would but I'm addicted. OMG Anna is like a disaster magnet. If it can wrong it will. She got shot with an arrow and then got shot with a gun. SMDH. Like I said she's a disaster waiting to happen. Poor Nick 3 attempts to propose all foiled by one thing or the other you had to chuckle at that. Then there's Violet. Who would have thought one of the cupid guys had something on her. And her Nonna with her investigation company you can't help but laugh out loud. The lady and her friends are gutsy. Thank goodness Nick was exonerated of the murder of his horrible father and reinstated to his position. Plus finally got to propose. Now whatever happened with the case the ATF was building against Nick? I think I missed something. Plus when will Nick ask Anna to marry him. Didn't he give her a promise ring in one of the first books? We need that in our lives. But I guess there are too many other siblings that need to get their stories. Who do you guys think is next? Maybe Donna? Great book and Great series.

Anna and Aiden are back as the focus in the latest addition to the Anna Albertini Files series, and I love it! As they try to settle into something resembling a normal life for them, Valentine's Day is looming large, and Anna is drawing a blank on the perfect gift for Aiden. She is more than happy to help Nick find the perfect ring to propose to her sister though- until mayhem strikes again. A band of robbers dressed as Cupid and murder charges against Nick threaten to derail a happy future, but Anna is on the case. Add in Nonna Albertini, Thelma and Georgiana who decide to investigate as part of their newly founded Three Hens Investigation, and hopes for a relatively quiet existence fade. Of course, there is plenty of humor, mystery and holy-smokes-fan-yourself moments to fill the pages, making Habeas Corpus a wonderful read! I cannot get enough of this family, and especially Anna and Aiden!

This is the sixth book in this series. In this book Anna is trying to help Nick Basanelli propose to her sister Tess. Thing go off track from the first chapter. Nick and Anna are picking of the rings, yes three bands of gorgeous diamonds. When the jewelry story is robbed by three Cupids complete with golden arrows Nick is shot. Then he is accused of killing his father and his mistress/secretary fifteen years ago. But never fear Anna’s Nana Albertini is on the case. Add in that Anna’s Uncle Buddy and Aunt Yara are going to adopt Violet. Violet gets scared and runs away. And the three cupids are wreaking havoc around town. And Aiden has to investigate Nick on charges of arms smuggling from when he was a JAG lawyer.

This is a fast paced read full of danger, suspense, romance and humor. I can hardly wait to see which Albertini or O’Shea or Basanelli gets hit by the love bug.

As much as I adore Anna and Aiden, these books don’t hold the same sway over me as this author’s paranormal romance books. It’s partly because the romance between Anna and Aiden isn’t featured enough. I love the time they spend together. I love the ways Aiden shows his love to Anna. He’s super protective yet also knows he has to let her chart her own course. It’s a fine line, and he does his best to straddle that line and not get too alpha with her.

A lot happens in this book and it actually slowed the pace down for me. I felt it was a bit too all over the place even while wanting to know how things were going to play out. It wasn’t a bad story, but it wasn’t great either. And it definitely wouldn’t hold up as a standalone story. So if you’ve been enjoying this series I’d say give it a read.

Love is in the air with Valentine’s Day about to descend on the Albertini clan – but a writ of habeas corpus stands in the way of a planned proposal!

As a trio of “Cupids” wreaks havoc throughout the town, Anna can’t seem to evade their arrow. Trouble follows her wherever she goes.

The relationship between Anna and Aiden continues to deepen and the “L-word” finally pops out in the middle of all the chaos.

Lots of red herrings that’ll have you on the edge-of-your-seat guessing the whodunit(s) in this action-packed plot. Wonderfully well-drawn characters, fast-paced, hilarious at times and certain to keep a reader intrigued from start to finish. Rebecca Zanetti never fails to surprise and delight!

Anna is such a magnet for disaster. Need a running tally for the number of times she gets hurt in a book :) But I do love her character and the humor with which these books are written.

Prosecutor Nick Bassaneli is front and center in this book and not all for good reasons... He is finally ready to propose to Anna's sister but finds himself becoming the number one suspect in a double murder. He and Anna are also victims of a band of robbers who dress like Cupid.

Such a great series and I love how far Anna and her Irish man Aiden Devlin have come in their relationship since the first book.

Habeas Corpus (The Anna Albertini Files, #6) by Rebecca Zanetti
I love the series and Anna - I enjoy all of Rebecca's books - but this series is my favorite. Anna and Aiden are perfect together (and he did save her all those years ago.) There is angst, danger, murder, Anna's wonderful family and friends, laughs, tears, plenty of steam, all to get us to a very HEA. I hope there will be many more books in this series.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Tear-jerker Easy-to-read Romantic Tragic Steamy Unpredictable Action-packed Happily Ever After Entertaining Funny Informative Scary Wonderful characters Page-turner Great world building.

Anna Albertini series is my new favorite from Rebecca Zanetti. Anna doesn't have to do anything and trouble finds her. I really enjoy her large family and the way they look out for each other. When Nick Basenelli plans on proposing to Anna's sister, Tessa, Anna tries to get everything just right for the occasion. But someone is framing Nick for the murder of his father that happened years ago. Will Anna be able to clear him? Will she solve the Cupid robberies before someone really gets hurt? Can Aiden, Anna's boyfriend, find a way to protect her? I really liked this book and can't wait for the next one.

Great book!

Another great book in this series. This time, the mysteries are even more interesting. Nick is accused of killing his father 15 yrs ago. There’s a trio of Cupids robbing stores and giving some of their proceeds to charity. It kept me enthralled and guessing throughout the book. Several cool twists popped up here and there also.
There relationship between Anna and Aiden progresses further. I just love Aiden and how sweet he is with Anna. Such a strong alpha male who’s protective of Anna. I love their moments together. It always gives me the happy feels and warms my heart.
I highly recommend this book and can see me reading it again.

Another excellent book in the Anna Albertini files series! I absolutely love reading these books. The interactions between the family members are just written superbly. The storyline grabs your interest immediately and the plot twists keep you hooked because you don't even see some of the things coming. I love this series, I loved reading it and listening to it and I cannot wait for the next book! Once again, Rebecca Zanetti did an excellent job with her book and I'm so glad that I have it. Anna is trying to help future brother in law Nick with both his proposal to her sister and as his lawyer. He is accused of 15yr old murder and spy charges from when he was lawyer in JAG. Also the town is being victimized by the Cupid gang that robs local stores and then gives two thirds of the loot to charity.

Anna is present at two robberies and ends up shot with and arrow when the leader comes after and kills one of his gang. Then the leader leaves a dead body in Anna's office, what's a girl supposed to do? Solve the case and try not to get killed of course!

This series is just fun with great characters, lots of family, romance and of course mystery and suspense.

Did I finish this in one day? Yes, yes, I absolutely did. I suppose it is a bit unbelievable that so many misfortunes can befall one woman, but I love how Aiden and Anna's family keep teasing her about her penchant for trouble. And trouble does seem to love Anna. Habeas Corpus was a fun, exciting read with plenty of humorous moments and I especially loved when the entire family came together. This is a great series if you like swoony heroes, confident FMCs, solving crimes, and creative lawyering.

valentines any time

I don’t think I will ever get enough of Anna and Aiden - and their entire family. There’s always a murder, there is always damage to anna (enough!) but there is such joy and love and generations. This is a romance novel, equal parts mystery, not of the cozy style, but not graphic. The italian and Irish humor is great fun- you’d love to be invited to one of their picnics or lunch at the restaurant (actually any restaurant but definitely Tessa’s). Read them in order - as lots of character and story development.

AnnaAlbertini6; 4.5 ⭐️

This was a real rollercoaster of a book. It could have been called Three Thieves, A Child and a Ring, for all the threads and twists. But, there were some wonderful payoffs from over the course of the series.

There are still Albertinis to pair off, (plus Clark, Bud and Graham) so I doubt this is the end of our time in Timber City and Silverville.

But, the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, seem to be striking Anna more pointedly, as the series progresses. She needs a guardian angel!
