Perfect intro to the timeline of Civil War from Virginia’s perspective (written with modern down-to-earth language.) Very concise and “reread”-able and a good starter book for someone who just wants to learn more about the war.
A great summary of the epic battles and concerning issues around Lee and his struggle to keep Virginia from falling. A solid read to get your feet wet.
A rather brief overview of the Civil War in Virginia; much of the book concentrates on the actions of Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia, with very brief mentions of peripheral actions like the Bermuda Hundred Campaign and the 1864 Valley Campaign. There is only a brief mention on the civilian aspect of the war, a single general map of Virginia (no maps for individual battles and campaigns), and a two page bibliography.
