Energetic little readers will be sent to the land of nod after reading this fun picture book by award-winning illustrator Guilherme Karsten.
Are you all set for SLEEPOVER TIME? Monster has your scary pajamas ready and UNDER the bed is looking perfectly yucky and monstrous. Wait, what do you mean you sleep ON THE BED? Are you not a monster? ALL monsters sleep under the bed! Can you persuade Monster to sleep on the horribly soft bed with a disgustingly fluffy teddy?
This soothing book helps little ones fall asleep.
Children will love playing along with the book as this lovable monster invites them to wear ragged pyjamas, crawl under the bed and act like a monster! Kids get to join in with this hilarious story and play their monstrous part, and by the end all little monsters will be feeling calm and sleepy! This is the perfect bedtime book for energetic kids to expel any last bursts of energy they have and settle in for the night as they tell the monster what to do.
I received a copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Are You a Sleepy Monster? is an adorable picture book for young children who have bedtime struggles such as not wanting to go to bed or having fears of there being a monster in their room/under their bed. This is such a cute story and perfect for bedtime. I hope many little ones find comfort from this adorable story. The illustrations are really cute and also relaxing to look at.
Kids like monster stories. This one has a monster having a sleepover. And the narration invites the listener to get ready for the sleepover as well. You can follow along seeing it is better to sleep in the bed and not under it. Or in pulling up the blanket, settling on the pillow and snuggling up with your comfort teddy. The illustrations are cute and inviting. Great for a going to bed book for pre-school aged children.
You know that there is at least one monster sleeping under your bed, right? So is this monster who came for sleepover. The hilarious story will make children forget how scarry a monster can be, moreover if they sleep under the bed. This book might help your children overcome their fear of dark spaces in the bedroom, thinking a monster might be there.
Wait no I didn't expect this to be so wholesome! I absolutely love the art style and the chatty, conversational format of the story. I'm 33 years old and I found myself chuckling and wanting to hop into my own bed immediately! Such a fun read and a clever way to help children wind down and prepare for bedtime. Loved it and would recommend.
Are You a Sleepy Monster? is due to be published on 16th January 2024.
I received a free advanced reader copy (ARC) of this eBook from the publisher, Happy Yak (part of Quarto Publishing Group), via NetGalley, for review purposes.
My son is almost two and we have been working on getting him to sleep in his big boy bed! This book is. A great, fun tool to help him transition. The illustrations keep him engaged with the story until the end!
Are You a Sleepy Monster? reverses the role of the monster under the bed and invites young readers to help the monster prepare for a sleepover. Much to its horror, this will involve trying to sleep on top of the bed. Playful and silly, this book was a great read-aloud for both my preschooler and early elementary children.
One of the best aspects of the book is its direct question-asking approach. Coupled with the illustrations, it easily drew my young readers into the narrative. This isn’t as much a story as it is an opportunity for children themselves to play through their bedtime routine by way of a silly, highly relatable monster. By the end, they were gleefully turning out the lights themselves.
My only caution with the book is that I’d avoid it if a child has any concerns about monsters under the bed. While the story and tone are very playful, the monster is clearly shown inhabiting a world under the child’s bed. The questions the monster asks are pointed and direct, even skeptical at points. This depiction may be too much for very young children and reinforce, rather than quell, some of those underlying fears.
All in all, I’d recommend this book if you’re looking for a way to add some fun and engagement to the bedtime routine with kids in the 4-6-year-old range.
Where do monsters go, when they're ready to sleep? Under the bed, of course! This is a super cute children's picture book about a monster sleepover! When the reader insists that they both sleep ON the bed, Monster is a bit reluctant to say the least. But will he be open to change???
I picked up this book to review on my own, but grabbed my 8 year old son to help me out. He says that he liked it, though he did feel that it would be better for younger kids. Despite that, he said that he liked the pictures a lot, and thought the story was funny.
As a librarian, I could absolutely see this book being popular with my families who have young children! In fact, it would be perfect for the PJ party events that we host!
🧚🏻A big thank you goes out to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group – White Lion, and author, Guilherme Karsten for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
A strong option as a variant to the usual lullaby book, this features a monster discussing with us – the reader, the unseen character having a sleep-over with said monster – how much better it is under the bed. When we persuade it, without even speaking, mind, that life is better on the bed, even this devilish critter finds it actually really quite comfortable, and for all the claims it's boring, he's soon off. As are we, presumably, when a second narrator turns up and encourages us to join the monster – not under the bed, not being a beastie, but just falling towards slumber in a natural, comfortable way. Other books offer no plot but just a verse to get us lulling towards beddy-byes, others are too colourful and active-making to get us off – this seemed pitched really quite well, so fingers crossed it works for enough to make this a success.
Guilherme Karsten's "Are You a Sleepy Monster?" is a delightful for young children. Karsten's book tells the story of a sleepy monster who wants his fellow monster (the reader) to sleep under the bed. The book shows children how to sleep and why they should sleep on their bed. They also learn not to be afraid of what's under the bed. The writing is clever and engrossing, and kids will love the gorgeous and quirky illustrations. If a child in your family is having sleep problems, this could help alleviate some of their stress about sleeping alone in the dark.
The book is also visually appealing that it would also appeal to younger kids who do not read. This could be a bonding experience with their parents who could read them the book.
I received an ARC copy of this book via the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for a honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is my first children’s book from Netgalley. It’s also my first from this author and publisher too. The cover looked really good and intriguing. The blurb was very intriguing as well. As a new mom, I’m always looking for good books for my baby girl. And this book delivers!
It’s a cute story and it is very reader interactive. It’s a simple, quick read but it’s great! It will be one that we read over and over again! It will be one I get a physical copy of when it releases! The artwork is beautifully done and pairs perfectly with the story. I can’t recommend this book enough!
One of the funniest books I've read with my little one lately! She almost fell asleep until she wanted to find the monster in her bed 😂 . A well written interactive story that you can play along and create dialogue with your little one as they were part of the book! She loved that part, like the little monster speaks to her! I am definitely buying a copy of this once is published and I would recommend to all parents. Super grateful to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for my copy of this book!
A wholesome story with an unexpected twist at the end. This story is about a monster who is getting to go to bed. The monster is “talking” to the reader and attempts to get the reader to first go to sleep under the bed. The illustration are cute and the story is funny. The book is interactive because it feels like the monster is talking to the reader. The book is perfect to read to little ones who need a bit of help getting into bed.
Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group-White Lion, Happy Yak for sending me an ARC in exchange of an honest review of the book received.
This has been our bedtime story for about 3 weeks now! My daughter can recite every page by heart and I am pretty sure she wants a sequel to this book!
Really beautiful book, wonderfully written. The monster is so grumpy but you cannot help but adore him! The story is written in a way which is interactive with the young readers and fully gets them involved!
Great book to help your own little monsters get to sleep and it makes the notion of monsters under the bed far less scary as well which is always a bonus!
This is so adorable. I loved the book. The way the story is told and illustrated melts my heart. The monster is so grumpy, but so sweet. The textured drawings are expressive and wonderful. They transport us into the book and to bedtime. The book is a wonderful experience. You're never too old for a bedtime story.
A huge thanks for the ARC of the book to the author Guilherme Karsten the publisher Quarto Publishing Group – White Lion, Happy Yak and to Netgalley
What a sweet little book!! Monster wants to have a sleepover with his new little friend (you) and invites you to sleep under the bed - like all the other monsters. Once invited to sleep ON the bed - and given a little stuffed animal and pillow - he is fast asleep. Super cute little read to share with your own little friend!!! I was given a digital copy of this book from Netgalley, Guilherme Karsten and Happy Yak in exchange for an honest review
Well, just crawl under the bed (where all good scary monsters sleep), and snuggle in for the night. I mean, after all, who would want to sleep on a soft, cozy, comfy bed under a warm blanket with an adorable teddy bear?
This would make a very cute and sweet bedtime tale for little ones who need some coaxing when it's time to head off to sleepyland.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Happy Yak for the read.
Like most Happy Yak books, this is a call and response book. This time is a Monster who’s ready to sleep under the bed, but the reader is supposed to want him to sleep on the bed. While I did enjoy this book, I don’t think that the reader will always give the answer, the narrator is expecting. It’s because of this I don’t think this book is as successful as other Happy Yak books. It is still a fun read, and the illustrations are perfect.
This is a very cute story of a monster trying to get ready for bed, the monster doesn't understand why the child wants to sleep in bed. The monster wants to sleep under the bed. The monster finally gives up and tries to sleep in the the bed and falls fast asleep. The story is nice and shows different people have different ways of doing things. The illustrations are very nice. Black backgrounds with pops of color for night time scenes.
This is an adorable story where the Monster is talking to the Reader. The Monster thinks the Reader is ALSO a Monster, so Monster invites the Reader to sleep under the bed and wear the scary pjs. When Monster sees the Reader wants to sleep on top of the bed, Monster is suspicious. Monster doesn't want to join in but eventually tries it out. In the end, the book talks to the Reader about quietly pulling the blanket up over Monster and gently closing the book. This would be fun to read aloud.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers, and Guilherme Karsten for allowing me to read and review this book.
This is such a cute book. It would be very helpful for any kids that are afraid of the monster under the bed. It shows that they aren't so bad, but actually just tired as well. I look forward to reading this book to my future children.
Thank you to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group – White Lion for the opportunity to read and review this book for my students. This is definitely a book I can add for my students. It's interactive, it emphasizes prepositions, and has great story grammar components for a sleep time routine. 5 out of 5 stars
For anyone who is scared of monsters under the bed, this is the story for you. You'll find out that they are or more accurately this one is more bossy than scary (Let's not make the assumption that all monsters are approachable). Plus this monster is an excellent friend at bedtime.
This is an adorable story about a monster going to bed. It was really fun to read and the illustrations were really good. the monster's grumpiness put a smile on my face and I'm pretty sure it would make a kid all giggly which melts my heart.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a cute and silly read that felt perfect for younger kids at bedtime. The illustrations were bright and fun. It wasn’t the most memorable story, and it felt pretty predictable, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing for the age group. Overall, it was lighthearted and playful, just not something that stands out long-term.
This storybook is very interactive and a great bedtime story for young readers. The book uses many questions that are playful and help children relax and enjoy the story. The monster character keeps the reader engaged with the illustrations, and the rhythm of the story helps children to go to sleep.
This is a fantastic, cute little bedtime story. Are your kids scared of the monster under the bed? Well, then, invite the monster for a sleepover. Before you know it, you'll all be comfy and sleeping the night away. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this gorgeous little picture book.
This was a cute story. The monster was a little bossy but hey he is a monster, lol. My favorite part of this was that the ending included the reader which pulls you into the story. Along with being the readers time for bed to conclude the story. Good read for my 4 yo. Would recommend.
What a cute and interactive little book, I absolutely enjoyed it. I think this is a great book to read with a child because it really gets them to get involved and play out all the goofy stuff the monster does.
