Teenage psychic McKenzie Gold falls under the spell of a handsome stranger--who also happens to be a vampire--and must risk everything before he can destroy his next victim, McKenzie's boyfriend, Aidan. Original.
The seventh book in The Power series following teenage psychic McKenzie Gold. In this installment Mack meets a mysterious and handsome guy who turns out to be a vampire. But by the time she finds out what he is he already has a hold on her and it might be too late to break free!
Another fun read and as always Mack is a likeable and relatable character to follow. Her best friend Lilicat and boyfriend Aidan also feature. There are also some sections told from the vampire's perspective and some dream sequences that kept the storytelling interesting.
I thought the story had some Labyrinth vibes in the sense that there's an older love interest who is very alluring and even though the protagonist knows that something isn't right they just can't help themselves. There was also a ballroom dance scene which reminded me of the film too.
The tension Mack faces between her love for her boyfriend Aidan and unintentionally falling for the new guy Michael was well done. Michael has to use all of his powers in an effort to make Mack his to the point that she is almost helpless...but she has some powers of her own. I liked how the story developed and while it wasn't my favourite in the series it was still very enjoyable.
The knowledge that this is not a standalone in a series like Fear Street or something but actually a series about the same group of people and a girl who's psychic: 3 stars
i assume in previous books we would get way more info on her psychic powers and what all goes on there, plus it wouldn't be such a big deal that that her boyfriend wasn't developed as a character much and that this particular book has an "it was all a dream--or was it??" ending. But I picked it up primarily for the vampire thing and that was kind of interesting but mostly coasted on vibes. Yes bestie explain Nothing
