Green, itself, is less necessary to environmental process, than the actual act of environmental protection itself. Perhaps what else we could define the necessary ecological step in industrial application instead as being an "environmental Browning", where we Brown nature. Whereby the great Browning of it becomes both security and benefit, where nature in its natural state is both kept to its own advances, in its own place and time, as well as to the benefit and availability of civilization and humanity, for a mutually beneficial process. Environmentalism could also be broken down into a Yellow and a Blue, where "merged" green values are separated into something more useful.
There might even be a time when we move beyond a terminology which demands such a color coded system. Instead the chemistry, ingenuity and utility of the process will define the parameters surrounding its own definitive characteristics.
