Before Prophecy of the Sisters, before Alice and Lia became pawns in the curse that turned sister against sister, the burden of the prophecy belonged to their mother, Adelaide. This is her story. Adelaide Milthorpe is losing her grip on sanity. She is a Gate-a human portal to the Otherworlds, destined to bring forth Samael, the most powerful demon of all time, and his Lost Souls. Prowling the halls of Birchwood Manor, Adelaide is haunted by the whispers of the otherworldly Souls, who seek to use her for entry into the real world, where they would wreak havoc and rule beside their leader, Samael, in chaos. Their pleas plague her, torture her, tempt her. Samael calls to her, his promise of peace in the Otherworlds increasingly difficult to resist. And the stakes are high, for if Adelaide gives in to his urgings, her two daughters will inherit the same curse, forcing them to make the same impossible choice as they, too, are cast in the roles of Guardian and Gate. In this novella that delves further into the Prophecy, Adelaide's struggle to reconcile her two worlds as she descends into madness will captivate fans of the Prophecy of the Sisters series and new readers alike.

Novelka z pohledu Adelaide, matky Alice a Lii. Byla to fajn vsuvka do příběhu, která trochu osvětlila to, proč se vlastně zabila. Neurazí, ale ani nenadchne.

English review:

Whisper of Souls is the first one of the novellas following Prophecy of Sisters Series. Main character is Adelaide, mother of Alice and Lia. We follow her destiny before she killed herself. I am glad author decided to write Adelaide's PoV, because it kinda explains some of the things which happened in the main series. For most of the part, we can see what it feels like to be a Gate and what are Souls capable of. It surely is captivating, fast paced and gripping, eventhough you know what's gonna happen next (sadly).

I enjoyed reading Whisper of Souls, eventhough it took me more time than I expected. Adelaide was nice character, though broken from her fate being a Gate. You can still see the love she has for her daughters. Her sacrifice made her look more human to me. I am also glad we get to meet younger Aunt from the main series.

In the end, I'd recommend reading this novellas after reading main trilogy. It will give you some insight into some of the characters. And it's not boring at all.

I loved this as a prequel to the Prophecy of the Sisters trilogy. I think this would be a great novella to give to someone to get them interested in the series and I'm really looking forward to reading the other 2 novellas from Michelle!

This was my favourite of the three novellas. It was very insightful to see what lead up to the death of Adelaide and how the normal guardian and gate balance worked. I also found the description of young Alice intriguing.

My only issue with it is the continuity with the prophecy of the sisters books. In the novella it states that Adelaide met Thomas in Altus. In the Guardian of the Gate it says Lia is the first Gate to go to Altus. Also, when she says her goodbyes to her daughters they are in the same bedroom. In the trilogy they were already in separate rooms by the time their mom died. Adelaide, having carved the protection circle under Lia's bed, being a major part of the bond between Lia and her mom.

Review Taken From The Pewter Wolf

When I found out that Michelle Zink had written ebook Novellas, I got excited (like Emma from Book Angel Booktopia). And when it was revealed that these three novellas were linked to her Prophecy of the Sisters trilogy, I was intrigued. I've only read the first book in the trilogy, and I do have copies of the rest of the trilogy and Michelle's newest novel, A Temptation of Angels, which I plan to read over the summer or fear Emma's wrath...

But with these novellas, all being released over a three week strength (by the time you read this, Amazon should hopefully have this and the second eNovella, Mistress Of Souls, out but Amazon has been a bit slow on releasing these) so it will keep you Prophecy of the Sisters fans happy till the final book, Circle of Fire, comes out in paperback.

In this, a prequel to the series, follows Lia's and Alice's mother, Adelaide. A human portal to the otherworlds, Adelaide is slowly losing her grip. With the souls and their leader, Samael, grow more restless, wanting to come through to cause chaos and wreck havoc. And if Adelaide gives in to her urges, her two daughters will suffer the same curse...

I love eNovellas where you spend money (£1.99) and you get what you've paid for. I have a huge issue when you spend money of an eNovella or short story and, within a few clicks, you've finished (as you guys are probably aware). With Whisper of Souls, it was a good meaty eNovella, that I stretched out over 2 days.

Maybe I over-hyped this in my head, but oh, how I slipped back into this world. I fell in love with this story. I just loved this story. Maybe it was because I slowly fell in love with Prophecy of the Sisters (though I haven't read book 2 or 3). But I loved this prequel of sorts, explaining what happened to Alice and Lia's mother.

I loved this, and I can't wait to read the second eNovella in the series, Mistress of Souls.

I’m really happy that there are three short stories to accompany the main trilogy! Whisper of Souls is the first of them and it gives us insight into Adelaide’s feelings right before she died. It’s amazing that even though her character wasn’t really present in Prophecy of the Sisters, it influenced everything so much, and in this story we learn how it happened. It was great to see things from her point of view, learn about the reasons behind her actions and final decision. It was also interesting to see how different Lia and Alice were even at a young age. The end broke my heart, but the whole novella helped me understand the basis of the story in the main book even more.

"Whisper of Souls" is a prequel novella to the " Prophecy of the Sisters trilogy." The story centers around Adelaide, the mother of Alice, Lia, and Henry. As Adelaide struggles with her own maternal and wifely guilt, she can no longer deny that Samael and the souls are looking for her to join them. I enjoyed it.

It was really good to read Adelaide's, Alice and Lia's mother, side of what happened to lead her to the decision she chose. Good filling in the gaps of the main storyline.

Michelle Zink is a genius.

I fell in love with Prophecy of the Sisters, so to read the story of Lia and Alice's mother was heartbreaking even though it is a short story.

A heart warming story about a confused soul who felt she wasn't strong enough to fight the demons whispering to her. She decided to take her life rather than giving in yo the lost souls.

I wish the book would've been longer, instead it justs gives a breif description of their mother
