Deep in the Congo Rainforest, a genetics research facility has gone dark. A partial distress call, sent moments before the blackout, indicates that something sinister has occurred. With research worth billions and secrets worth killing for, the notorious Lexington Corporation recruits Ziler and his team of mercenaries to investigate.
He was told it would be a quick assignment. Drop into the Congo Rainforest, find the secret genetics facility, download all research data from the main computer, and bug out. What they find is the deadly result of tampering with nature.
The simple assignment becomes a fight for survival as giant mosquitos emerge from the canopy. Capable of draining a human body of blood within seconds, they quickly prove themselves to be the deadliest threat Ziler’s team has ever encountered. Driven by instinct, they are fearless creatures whose sole purpose is to feed relentlessly.
Now, Ziler and his mercenaries are next on the menu. Eager to keep their blood in their veins, they fight to kill the bugs and prevent them from multiplying.

Nothing that 50,000 litres of bug spray won’t fix.
You know the little buggers that make the afternoon barbecue on the deck a misery, and sleeping at night impossible with that high-pitched squeal in your earhole? Here in the land of kangaroos and crocodiles, we call them mozzies, but you probably know them as mosquitoes. Well what if they were the size of a VW and had a proboscis like a lance and suction like one of those trucks that cleans out your septic tank? Pretty scary…not.
I only read this book for fun, but fun it wasn’t. Editing seems to be a bygone thing, and to think I suffered all that humiliation from my English teacher back in school (plus a few good kicks up the bum) just so I could notice grammar and spelling errors in my retirement years. At least he got into the action on page one and didn’t fart-arse around with a whole lot of padding.
I wasn’t expecting much, and that’s exactly what I got. I need a drink…on the deck…with some mozzie repellent on my legs.
If you’re looking for fast blasting and splatter fest, this is a book for you. You have some good characters and someone worthy to wish death upon and that’s motivation to follow this to the end. Very fun, very gross. Now I’m sure you’re itching to read it.
Another Michael Cole book hitting it out of the park! One of the best aspects of this story is Cole’s ability as a writer to keep the pace of the plot just perfect. There’s no extraneous nor unnecessary chapters or paragraphs slowing down the momentum of the plot, as you often find in too many other novels. I wish other authors would come to understand that word count or the length of a book does not equate to quality work. What does matter is all you find within Mosquitos. A perfectly balanced “monster” or creature adventure story. There’s the ideal amount of skilled character development. Humor between the actors. And gorgeous, detailed world building. The pace of the action carries the reader effortlessly & excitingly from the first intro paragraphs straight through the satisfying conclusion. I definitely recommend this book to all adventure enthusiasts as well as those who love creature and/or mystery stories.
Mosquitos by Michael Cole is a very fun story. All of the characters were extremely well written. The overall plot flowed really well and the pacing was just write for a good creature feature story. Now to talk about the stars of this story the Mosquitos. They were a constant threat and had massive numbers. What I liked most though was the Mosquitos were easy to kill compared to some of Cole’s other giant insects he has written about. However it makes it quite clear that while they are easy to kill there are so many of them that it is still going to be a fight for survival. I also enjoyed some of the other creatures that showed up in this one. All in all I would recommend this one to anyone who likes creature features or good non stop action.
Like Christmas, a new book from Cole is always a winning gift. Great action. Good gore. Insanely large bugs (and other things...). What a great time. Was happy to get a non-aquatic beastie. The mosquitoes were awesome. Enjoyed the characters as well. Very much enjoyed the demise of the baddie. They always get what they deserve. Thanks Michael. Can't wait for your next book. This one is highly recommended.
I was initially hesitant to read this one. Normally I don’t go for the military team stories but… I was pleasantly surprised. Imagine if you will Arnold’s team from Predator going into the forest but instead of a predator they’re met with GIANT MOSQUITOES!
Pros: + great monsters (and if you’re a fan of monster vision in the movies it’s important to note that Cole does a good job giving us that in his books) + fun stereotype mercenary characters that are well written and distinct + bonus monsters but I’ll let y’all discover those
Cons: - shoehorned in a character with some drug misuse which wasn’t needed - maybe more silly scientist stuff could have been fun but I get it you really need to get to the big killing
Overall this was a fun read. I really appreciate how much the author can make it feel like a giant monster movie.

Everyone hates mosquitoes!! And giant ones would be horrible! This story has good characters. They are unique and interesting. The story line is good too. I really enjoyed this one.
Liked this book! Short and too the point but with interesting characters, plot and action. Didn’t seem like too much of either. It was like a well made syfy channel movie instead of a corny one lol.
Page turning action! Mercenaries hired by pharmaceutical Corp fund themselves in dire straits in the African jungle fighting for their lives against mutant bugs. Action aplenty!
