Painful Questions: An Analysis Of The Sept. 11th Attack

Rate this book
This book has the color photos, diagrams, and the analysis to show that the World Trade Center towers and Building 7 were demolished with explosives that were placed in the buildings in preparation for the 9-11 attack. This book is being used by people around the world to support the accusation that the US Government was the primary conspirator in the 9-11 attack. For two examples, David Ray Griffin references it in his book "The New Pearl Harbor", and Andreas von Bulow, a retired German government official, is referencing it in his book published in Germany. If you believe Osama bin Laden attacked us without our government's assistance, why not find the flaws in this book, put these accusations to rest, and help restore America's credibility? If you already believe the attack was conducted by the U.S. government, this book will help you educate your fellow citizens on the unbelievable corruption in our world.

I think this book pretty much started it all. It began my awakening to the truth.

A BEAUTIFULLY-PRESENTED "TRUTHER" ARGUMENT

Eric Hufschmid's 2002 book is lavishly-illustrated with photographs, in almost magazine-style format. He of course supports the "government conspiracy" version of 9/11 events, and suggests, "The September 11th attack was devastating, but perhaps the CIA did not expect such damage. Perhaps they expected the planes to merely punch a small hole in the side of the towers... Or perhaps the CIA assumed the military would intercept the airplanes... When the CIA saw how destructive the attack was, they may have panicked and put pressure on the government to suppress all investigations." (Pg. 4-5)

He notes that WTC 7 "had the capacity to hold 42,000 gallons of diesel fuel... Not surprisingly, the New York fire department complained more than once that the situation was risky." (Pg. 9) For the twin towers, he says, "The dark smoke and lack of flames is an indication that the fires did not have enough oxygen to burn properly... deep inside the North Tower, where the core columns were, the fire may have been barely surviving its own smoke, if it was burning in the core at all. For all we know, the fire in the core area was extinguished after ten minutes." (Pg. 36)

He also notes the "tipping of the top section" of the South Tower when columns on one side broke, and asks, "Why would FEMA claim the floors fell like pancakes when photos show otherwise?" (Pg. 43) He suggests, "The towers did not resemble a conventional demolition because they were NOT a conventional demolition. The explosives in the towers were trying to simulate a collapse of a building due to a fire and airplane crash." (Pg. 85) About American Flight 77 (which crashed into the Pentagon), he says, "The most likely explanation for Flight 77 is that it was shot down near Ohio. Barbara Olsen's call seems to be a fake to add some realism to the flight. I think her odd conversation was because a female CIA agent made the phone call, and it did not occur to her that Olson should be making a sad call to say goodbye." (Pg. 108)

WHY the 9/11 attacks? He speculates: "One theory is that a few rich families or corporations did it for money, but why would our military attack its own headquarters and spend tens of billions of dollars just so some rich people could make a few more million dollars? Other people assume the motive was to get oil, but what oil have we gotten? For all we know, the CIA and other agencies are dominated by people who have mental disorders... perhaps our government is full of lunatics who are taking us on a wild ride in an attempt to help us. Also, some government officials may be easily deceived, bribed, and blackmailed into doing things that hurt America." (Pg. 152)

Many of Hufschmid's arguments are outside even the "Truther" mainstream; but just the photos and illustrations alone make this a very useful book for researchers.

Painful Questions was one of the first of the 9/11 conspiracy books. While it asks questions rather than provide answers, it is well illustrated and outlines the main themes of the conspiracy. These are that the collapse of World Trade Center buildings 1, 2 and 7 were controlled demolitions and that the Pentagon was hit with a missile rather than a jet liner. The book goes on to say that the only people who could have done this is the government itself and places the blame on the CIA and FBI, what he calls "The Axis Of Good" in opposition to President Bush's "Axis of Evil" representation of North Korea, Iraq and Iran.

After 110 pages of text and illustrations on the events of 9/11, the author spends the last third of the book rehashing the John F. Kennedy murder conspiracy and a few other events he claims are government cover-ups. While he may do this to show that the government is capable of such actions, it makes him look even more untrustworthy and paranoid.

This is not a good book for information on the conspiracy theories surrounding the 9/11 attacks. Published only a year after, it's main value is in showing the early development of the conspiracy ideas. It also is highly illustrated providing many photographs and illustrations to support his beliefs.
