Now that her sisters are both married, Felicity Courtney manages the Courtney Boardinghouse alone. After nearly collapsing from exhaustion while caring for an invalid man and his wife who are staying at the boardinghouse, Felicity posts an advertisement for a hired hand.
Philip Berg, a prince in disguise, is hiding in Fairplay while attempting to stay one step ahead of an assassin. When the spirited Felicity Courtney tacks up a notice that she is hiring help, he offers to do the job as he is unable to leave her in such distress. Although he knows his presence could pose danger and that he needs to move on from Fairplay, he can’t tear himself away.
Felicity has no intention of employing the handsome but exasperating Philip Berg, but when an early winter storm hits, she finds herself battling the elements and is grateful for his assistance. Love begins to blossom, but secret revelations and encroaching peril threaten to tear them apart forever.

A fun end of the series novel. The banter between Felicity and Philip was entertaining. Both of them tried to deny the chemistry between them.
The boarders were a good addition to this tale. They brought out the big hearts of both main characters and shed light on stroke patients in the time period.
I'm glad there are more western series set in the Colorado High Country coming in 2024. And featuring a character from this final book of the Colorado Cowgirls Series.
My gratitude to the author for a complimentary e-copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.
So many of my favorite tropes have been woven beautifully throughout this story! I picked it up and devoured it! I couldn't get enough of Felicity and Phillip's story! They are just so adorable together and the banter between them kept me turning the pages and hoping for all the scenes to be of the two of them. Not only does the banter bring this story to life, but the chemistry that is sizzling between Felicity and Phillip. She's just the sweetest thing (and she can definitely have spunk too) and then you mix in Phillip's charm and being a flirt and those smirks and it's just magic between these two!
A prince in disguise, a terrible snow storm that traps them together at the boarding house, moments of peril, Phillip running for his life due to political unrest in his small Scandinavian nation, an older couple boarding with Felicity, dreams of life outside of Fairplay, mistakes, stolen looks, friendship, family, tenderness, sweet kisses, the banter (again, cause I loved it so much), the goodness of the characters, the fun surprise, and so much more!!!
I've loved every book in this series and highly recommend all of them, but this one is definitely my favorite of the four! Read them all. Go back and read the Colorado Cowboys series too, because they're just all fantastic reads!!! And make sure to carve out some good reading time for yourself because you'll not want to stop once you start!
Content: Clean. Some mild moments of peril, sweet and clean romance with sweet kisses and nothing further.
I received a copy from the author/publisher. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
What is it about Jody Hedlund's books that rips me out of my current existence and thrusts me into whatever time period and location she's writing about??? In Captivated by the Cowgirl, I was once again transported to the mountains of Colorado and into the 1800s. And I wasn't mad about that at all.
I loved this story, and, yes, was captivated by the relationship and the repartee between Philip and Felicity. It was so much fun to read their back-and-forth! And I did not see his true identity coming (you find out what that is pretty early in the book).
This was an enchanting read that I did not want to see come to an end. Jody? Maybe you can write a series about their new life? That'd be awesome!
~I was given a complimentary copy of this book. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.~
You have heard it said that some people get all the luck. Regardless whether it is good luck or bad luck, things seem to swing a certain way for some folks. Philip was trying to leave Fairplay for Denver, but one thing after another kept delaying him. In truth, a certain redhead had caught his attention, and he just seemed to keep finding excuses to dally until he was unexpectedly caught in a blizzard and ended up back at the Courtney Boardinghouse. Once there, he was unable to travel because of the hazardous conditions. Fortunately for Felicity and the Kellers, he was there when they most needed him. Keep in mind that the story takes place in the late 1800s before modern conveniences, so surviving was a greater challenge. Throughout the story, Philip takes every precaution to keep his true identity secret for his own safety as well as the safety of others. Someone is after him and he does not want anyone to get hurt. He keeps telling himself that he needs to leave before the assassin shows up at the boardinghouse. The story has some action and suspense, but the romance thread weaves throughout. The author has developed an interesting love story between two people who were a very unlikely match. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
“He should have left Fairplay several weeks ago when he’d originally planned – shouldn’t have allowed himself to stay. But he’d been too enamored with her and too weak to tear himself away. And he still couldn’t.”
I absolutely love this series, and this new favorite was such a fun ending to it!
Phillip is a prince in hiding, being pursued by an assassin. He knows he should leave Fairplay, but he is totally captivated by Felicity and can’t seem to leave her.
Their mutual attraction is strong, but to keep her safe he has to resist her and keep his true identity a secret from her.
Felicity is the last sister left to run the Courtney Boardinghouse. Her two lodgers are in need of her constant care, and after working herself into a state of complete exhaustion, Phillip stays with them to help her out.
A snowstorm traps them at the boarding house, making for some wonderful forced proximity with lots of flirting, fabulous banter, fun snow scenes, and great chemistry between the MCs. Add in some action and suspense, and I couldn’t put it down!
Captivated by the Cowgirl is a great addition to the Colorado Cowgirls series. You can jump in and enjoy this book even if you haven’t read the previous novels.
I loved the banter between Philip and Felicity. The way they related to each other with wit throughout the entire story helped to show how in tune they were with each other, as well as the way that Philip, especially, was desperate to connect with Felicity, yet also tried to keep her safely at arms length. The moments when their discussions would go from teasing to serious were also very telling. These two, try as they might, could not help falling for each other!
Philip and Felicity were both very giving people. They gave of themselves throughout the entire novel in various ways. They both did whatever needed to be done for the Kellers, who were boarding with Felicity, and their caring hearts were on display as they helped each other through some dangerous times during the blizzard.
I wondered how the author would be able to wrap this one up in a happily ever after. It seemed that the obstacles were overwhelming. Yet, the conclusion was highly satisfying and a beautiful happily ever after. I am looking forward to reading the upcoming novella that is connected to this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I have loved this Colorado Cowgirls series! Every single book was so well done, but this last book was my favorite! I loved Felicity and Phillip’s story so much!
Felicity is the last of the Courtney sisters left to run the boarding house and when she takes in an elderly couple who need help as boarders she finds herself exhausted and in need of help herself. She goes into town seeking to hire someone to help her with some of the chores. She runs into Phillip again and nearly passes out in his arms and he finds himself staying to take care of Felicity.
This one was so much fun! I loved the forced proximity of being snowed in at the boarding house. While it was cozy and provided the opportunity for their affections for each other to grow it also brought dangers and challenges that had me turning the pages fast! I absolutely loved Phillip and Felicity’s dinner together where they got to ask each other 5 questions. These two had the most amazing banter together; it had me smiling throughout the whole book! Phillip was funny and had such a great personality and Felicity matched it with her quick wit and comebacks.
The elderly couple staying at the boarding house was so sweet. I loved how it helped show Phillip’s tender side when he read to Mr. Keller at night and how Felicity was always ready to provide whatever they needed.
I enjoyed the twist of Phillip having an identity that he needed to keep secret because of the dangerous situation he was in. This added so much intrigue to the story!
As for the romance, it absolutely sizzled! It is something Jody does extremely well! Because of the situation Felicity and Phillip were in it needed to start slow but all those little touches and glances were heated! Their first kiss in the snow was so amazing! Loved that scene so much!
Jody Hedund is an auto read author for me and this book was everything that I love about her books. While this book can be read as a stand-alone you will want to read the rest in the series because they are all top notch.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I’m not going to lie, this book has nearly the exact same plot as another one of the series (except with different characters of course). That being said, I did enjoy it.
A charming read filled with entertaining banter, and a touch of danger as Felicity and Philip fight the elements and a threat that has followed Philip from his homeland.
A well done addition to the series, I admired Felicity's big heart for the Kellers as well as her determination and hardworking nature. Felicity is a very capable young woman with a lot of responsibility. I wasn't sure how I felt about Philip at first, but he quickly won me over as I realized that his flirtatious banter, and aloof manner, hid a true heart of gold, willing to serve no matter how lowly the task. The Kellers are a sweet older couple, and I loved how devoted Mrs. Keller is to Mr. Keller through everything. Even though Mr. Keller can't talk, I loved how his eyes say it all.
A quick read, with characters that are easy to root for throughout. I loved the banter between Felicity and Philip, as well as the chemistry that they try to deny. An engaging western fairy tale, and wonderful conclusion to the series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I have yet to read a book by Jody Hedlund I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed, and Captivated by the Cowgirl is a truly lovely story as well. This is such a unique western, combining a Colorado setting with Scandinavian royalty plus some well-loved tropes. I loved both Felicity and Philip, and was engrossed in their story from beginning to end. It was great to see some familiar characters again, and to get a peek at future stories. Don’t miss any of Jody’s books! 4.5/5 stars
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Jody Hedlund does not disappoint, every book, every story she writes immerses you. I already have a goal to read all of her books, I’m sure all will be 4 or 5 stars. I liked how the main characters argue with each other and all that flirting ❤️
Captivated by the Cowgirl, Book 4 of the Colorado Cowgirls series, is the youngest Courtney sister’s touching, entertaining story. As we return to 1878 Fairplay, Colorado, we find that feisty nineteen year old Felicity Courtney now has sole responsibility for the Courtney homestead and boardinghouse. The fast-paced plot has a lighter atmosphere than the other sisters’ stories, but romance is still front and center bringing with it adventure and danger. Although Felicity is not ready to settle down and Philip does not want to commit to a relationship as long as his life is being threatened, they are irresistibly drawn to each other in a big way! Their flirtatious banter is delightful. Well-crafted secondary characters add to the enjoyment of the story. I highly recommend this book and the series. I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Book number 4 in the new series, Colorado Cowboys by Jody Hedlund. Felicity is exhausted from looking after her boarders at the boardinghouse. Philip comes to her rescue by helping her at the boardinghouse. But wait, Philip is actually her Prince Charming! Philip can’t commit to Felicity or FairPlay as he is on the run and is keeping a secret from everyone. What is the secret? I don’t want to spoil it for you but it’s a good one. Read this exciting conclusion to the series! I highly recommend the Colorado Cowboys and Colorado Cowgirls series! So good!
I'm so glad that the story ended with Felicity and Phillip. The banter that these two exchanged with each other was so much fun to read and kept them both humble. I enjoyed the character Mr. Keller so much too and likes how Felicity and Phillip were so selfless in their care for him.
Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.
I knew I had to read this series as soon I saw it was being written. I loved, loved The Colorado Cowboys books and had no doubt these would be just as great. I might have skipped the first three though 😆 when I saw this book was hidden identity involving a prince. I just couldn’t resist. The bookish heart wants what it wants. And with classic Jody swooniness this book delivered.
Phillip and Felicity were adorable with their banter and teasing. They were both very much alike in their desires to be helpful to those in need. Also in putting duty first before their own wants and desires.
This is a clean, sweet western fiction with a forbidden romance, with forced proximity, and some danger mixed in.
We love a hidden prince story! Captivated by the Cowgirl gives you the royal treatment with secret monarchs, deadly assassins, forbidden romance, witty banter, and perilous situations. Felicity is giving, caring, and hardworking with a longing for adventure. In the beginning she has worked herself to exhaustion trying to take care of the boardinghouse on her own. Philip has been trying to stay hidden from his brother, the king, but when he meets Felicity, he can’t help but linger. The sass they gave to each other was humorous and amusing. Their interactions are heady as they circle each other being drawn closer and closer together. The youthful and playful nature of their relationship brings such joy to the tale. When the ice storm keeps them trapped in the boardinghouse for days, you can’t help but rejoice that they finally have the opportunity to let their guard down and savor each other’s company. The scene in the mine shows Philip’s intelligence along with Felicity’s determination. It is dramatic and captivating, leading the characters to an epic conclusion. The final scenes when Philip and Felicity get their new identities was *chef’s kiss* perfection. They both find a way to fulfill their dreams, and I wish we could see them in their new roles because I bet they will be amazing. Getting to see the sisters together at the end was another lovely moment that helped greatly to give their stories a satisfying conclusion. Captivated by the Cowgirl is fast paced romantic read that will keep you glued to the page the whole way through. I received a complimentary advanced reader copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The banter. The flirting. The trapped in a blizzard part. The snow angels. The part where he rescues her, but then, she rescues him! And the kisses too 🤭
This is definitely a he-falls-first book. He tried to deny it, thinking he couldn’t have a future with Felicity. But then she falls, and she falls hard. And she’s the first one to say I love you. But… he’s a prince, being tracked by an assassin. And he doesn’t want to hurt her. Ugh, is separating the denying themselves the only option?
I love the Courtney sisters. Each of their stories sucks you in, and you have to find out what happens! I will say, I did hurt just a little for Weston, but he wasn’t the man for Felicity, and I’m so glad he has his own story!
This is a must read for anyone who loves romance and westerns!
Oh what a fun story!!! A prince in disguise! The banter between Phillip and Felicity was a highlight.
Felicity is young but she’s tough and gets things done that need doing. She puts others needs ahead of her own to the point of exhaustion and still keeps giving.
Philip is witty and charming. He’s kind and compassionate.
I loved this story for the way love bloomed out of simply spending time together in a difficult situation. They learned about each other in conversation and how they handled different things during the time together.
And who doesn’t love a happily ever after fairy tale ending?!? Don’t miss this one!
I am enjoying these sizzling cowgirl stories from FairPlay, Colorado. This one has a very unique hero. He is a royal in hiding, which makes for a captivating story. Felicity Courtney is the one sister left to run the boardinghouse and has taken pity on an elderly couple with an invalid husband. As she cares for the Kellers, she works herself into exhaustion. She seeks help to get the chores done. Philip takes it upon himself to Interview and reject possible men for the job. When a bad snowstorm lands him at the boardinghouse, he pitches in. All the while hiding from his past. Danger and excitement follow as Philip and Felicity grow closer together even as they try to deny their attraction. They are both very determined people. This was a great ending to a fun series with a promise of another related series to come! * I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.”
The banter in this book is unrivaled! I loved Felicity and Phillip's flirty banter. It has me laughing from the start. The fact that Phillip is a secret prince was a fun addition to the story and helped raise the stakes of the relationship. So many swoony moments and suspense and of course a beautiful happily ever after. loved it!
💋Kisses focused on emotions ⚠️Phillip's bro is a bad dude
I really enjoyed this fourth book in the Colorado Cowgirls series. Phillip and Felicity's banter was fun to read and I liked the royalty-in-disguise twist. Highly recommended if you enjoy sweet cowboy romance!
This was probably the most playful of the series. Take a cowgirl, add in a charmer mix, and have them beware of an assassination plot = fast paced and fun read.
I know when Author Jody Hedlund has a new release there will be a surprise that you will never expect. That is undeniably true in Captivated by the Cowgirl Book #4 in the Colorado Cowgirls series. Just when you think you know where the story is headed, it takes an abrupt turn. Felicity Courtney is left to run the Courtney Boardinghouse after her two sisters are married. It is a heavy load, so she advertises for help. She has no intention of hiring the arrogant and handsome Philip Berg, but desperate times call for desperate measures. I would never have guessed the secret Philip Berg was carrying with him. Wow! A do not miss series! I received a complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
The 4th and final in the series "Colorado Cowgirls" ended with the story of Felicity, the youngest of the sisters. Her story was pretty original, and the adventure was stable throughout. Just too much touchy romance for me, felt more like lust not love. I want to thank the author for allowing me to read a complimentary copy, the review expressed is entirely my own.
This was such a fun book, y’all!! I have a love/hate relationship with the hidden/secret identity trope. Part of me loves it and the other part hates waiting for the reveal. This book was very much on the love side of that relationship. I loved watching Philip help felicity with her home and do all of these menial tasks that a prince wouldn’t normally do and Felicity had no idea. That reveal was amazing!! Also I loved that ending!!! The way he surprised her was so sweet!!
I received an eARC from the author, all opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved this! I think I say that with every Jody Hedlund book I read, but this one is a new favorite! Royalty in disguise is such a fun trope and I loved every minute of it. Throw in lots of witty banter, being stuck together after a heavy Colorado snowstorm, and a persistent assassin, and you have one riveting, hard to put down story!
With both sisters married, Felicity Courtney is left to run the boardinghouse by herself. When Mr. & Mrs. Keller, a sweet older couple, come to stay, she finds herself overwhelmed with trying to keep the boarding house running and assist in caring for Mr. Keller who suffered a stroke. While putting up an advertisement for hired help, she runs into Phillip Berg and the sparks fly. Though he’ll be leaving soon, when she collapses from exhaustion, he takes it upon himself to take her home and help her until he has to leave. But, a heavy snowstorm effectively traps him. Will Felicity be able to resist Philip’s charms knowing he must go when the snow melts?
Philip Berg has a secret. He’s actually Prince Carl Philip Glucksberg of the small Scandinavian nation of Lapland. Forced to flee his country, he’s constantly on the move to avoid a deadly assassin. The charming, suave, flirt is immediately drawn to Felicity. Their spirited, witty banter sizzles with an undercurrent of attraction. But, Philip doesn’t want to put Felicity in danger or risk getting too attached knowing he must leave soon. When she collapses though, everything changes. He’s determined to help her even if just for a day, but when a snowstorm leaves him trapped it’s hard to remember why he needs to stay far away from the temptation that is Felicity.
I loved Philip! He’s such a charming rogue and utterly adorable. His quick wit and playful personality can’t help but get to Felicity who’s stubbornly determined to do things on her own and works entirely too hard. The snow scenes were so much fun, full of snow angels and snowball fights. The chemistry between the two is off the charts and I loved the way the author creates these sizzling, slightly dangerous scenarios but keeps things entirely clean. The last part of the book had me on pins and needles as the assassin makes a final appearance.
It’s a swoonworthy, action packed story, with some of Jody Hedlund’s most delicious banter. I’ve loved this entire series and highly recommend it to Western & historical romance fans. I’m so excited her Western romances will continue with another spinoff series. Can’t wait! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own and voluntarily given.
Captivated by the Cowgirl Colorado Cowgirls #4 By Jody Hedlund
With both her sisters married, Felicity Courtney is on her own. And against their wishes, she has taken in boarders - an older couple after the husband is stricken with a condition that has made him an invalid.
But the late nights of caring have left Felicity exhausted, forcing her to seek out a hired hand to handle the outside chores. What she never expected was Philip Berg offering to do the work, much less show up to do it. She thought Philip too arrogant to lower himself to do domestic chores with his own hands.
Two years ago, she would have been right about Philip's ability to do chores. But living life on the run from an assassin has changed Philip. First, he's had to hide his identity - after all, a prince on the run can't use his true name or his title if he hopes to live. What he never anticipated was developing feelings for Felicity Courtney.
But feelings for Felicity have developed, and his heart has now put her in danger. Because the assassin will use his feelings against him if it is discovered just how deep they run. To stay ahead of this killer, Philip may have to sacrifice his future happiness unless he can stop the assassin from completing his task.
Captivated by the Cowgirl is the fourth and final book in the Colorado Cowgirls series, bringing it to a satisfying conclusion. The Courtney sisters haven't had an easy time of it in Fairplay, Colorado, struggling to make ends meet while paying off their late uncle's debts, inheriting a gold mine that was being robbed by a potential suitor, and then nearly being conned out of everything by a cousin who wasn't a cousin. These poor girls needed a break of some kind, but it is not happening anytime soon for Felicity. Not unless she can hire someone to help out around the boarding house, and in her opinion, Philip won't be the help she needs. Especially once she finds out the secrets he's been keeping.
This book can be read as a standalone title, though it works best reading it in the series order just for the backstory. Fans of Jody Hedlund or Love Inspired books will enjoy this historical romance set in Colorado. And if you are a fan of Prince in disguise stories, you won't want to miss this one. The characters are interesting to get to know, and it was nice that Felicity got her chance to take center stage after helping her sisters out in the previous books in the series.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.
Captivated by the Cowgirl is the fourth (and final) full-length novel in Jody Hedlund's Colorado Cowgirls series. This was the first secret-royal novel I've read in quite a while, and it was definitely a different, but enjoyable, twist on the typical Jody Hedlund book.
Felicity Courtney is struggling to run the boardinghouse alone now that her two sisters have both married and she's starting to wonder if she should accept one of many marriage proposals from a man she doesn't love. Or maybe she should just look for help. But there's a new man in town: the infuriating-but-so-hard-to-resist Philip Berg. Oh, and he's an actual real-life prince on the run from assassins sent by his brother, but that's a secret he holds tightly. He's been trying to leave the town but the spunky redheaded boardinghouse owner keeps drawing him back despite his best efforts. And then an unexpected snowstorm hits and leaves him snowbound with Felicity (and the Kellers), and that's when everything unravels...or comes together.
This was a cute clean romance with lots of witty banter and snow-melting moments scattered throughout the story. I enjoyed getting to know Felicity better and seeing her find her happily-ever-after. Philip was a fun hero, and because I never read the back blurb, quite an unexpected one. He's also quite the flirt, which can be hard to do well, but he pulled it off. The chemistry between the two of them was obvious from the beginning and sparks were flying constantly. Their hilarious banter kept me smiling and laughing as the story unfolded and really drew me in. I did find some parts of the story a little cheesy, but there was enough realism that I still thoroughly enjoyed every chapter. As for side characters, the Kellers were a sweet elderly couple and I enjoyed seeing Philip and Felicity's tender sides come out when they were caring for Mr. Keller. Weston was also a great addition and I'm thrilled that he will be getting his own story in Hedlund's upcoming Christmas novella! He and Felicity clearly weren't right for each other, but he definitely deserves to find love.
I would rate this one 4.5/5 stars. It was such a good ending to a fantastic series, and I can't wait to see where the author takes us next!
Read this if you enjoy: ⭐️Forced proximity ⭐️Witty banter ⭐️Instant chemistry ⭐️Secret royal trope ⭐️Clean yet steamy ⭐️Small town romance
*As a launch team member, I received a complimentary copy of Captivated by the Cowgirl through the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own. My positive review is not required.
I think I said this with every previous book of this serious, but THIS one was my favorite. Did I think I would ever read a western cowboy book with a secret charming foreign prince? Running from an assassin?? Playing at cowboy and a traveling photographer?? No i did not. But I was here for it. The narrator did such a fantastic job with the foreign princes accent. Felicity and Philips personalities and banter and flirting were TOP NOTCH. Like seriously I loved every second of this book. I seriously think I was either grinning or laughing the whole book. I rewound my audio book just so I could listen to some of their lines again. He was the perfect flirty/charming prince and felicity was the perfect hardworking spitfire. I loved how Philip got under her skin in the best way possible. Seriously just read the book if you want a low angst, super entertaining book.
SPOILERS and book notes: Oct 1878 ooo felicity is a spitfire and can hold her own against the flirtatious and handsome Philip. I love that he gets under her fiery skin. “I guess I can apply for the position then?” “I’m only choosing men. Not children.” Bahaha I love that they both secretly love bantering with each other and love to make each other laugh and smile. But she tries to hold it back. A flirtatious spat. I like that word choice. Holy moly the flirting in this book is killing me!! Philip is a secret rich foreign prince/ traveling photographer. Oh my heck. The banter in this book!!! The teasing!!! The foreign accent!!! They were stuck in a cold house and had to cuddle to stay warm!! Now they “play” in the snow everyday. Like I am grinning so bad. best first kiss ever. After being tackled in the snow. And when someone came and interrupted them, they just kept on kissing and ignored him! Bahahah awwww she told him she loved him so he wouldn’t leave!!!! And then he left anyways and she gets kidnapped by the assassin and I am dying. Awww the rescue and proclamation of love and him sacrificing himself “for the woman he loves”. Then the surprise wedding!!!! Awwww!!! He is king!!!! This book!!! And poor Westin gets his own book after felicity broke his heart! His own series! I CANT WAIT.
