The author equips Christians to understand and apply the wisdom of Proverbs. Basic skills needed in interpreting the proverbs are clearly taught and illustrated. These include how to understand poetic parallelism, how to unravel figurative language and how to apply the proverbs to daily living.
Though originally published in 1983, this still is one of the best books I've found on studying and applying the book of Proverbs. If you can track down a used copy or request if from your local library like I did, you will be well served. Mouser makes the in depth study of Proverbs accessible. His writing is clear and engaging. He also provides exercises at the end of each chapter to help you practice key points of interpretation such as determining parallelism, finding figures of speech, and applying the principles contained each verse. The last chapter is especially helpful as he ties it all together and makes helpful recommendations for beginning to study the book of Proverbs.
An excellent introduction to Proverbs, giving the reader the ability to study for themselves the Hebrew use of parallelism and repetition and hyperbole.
