What do these two best friends do when they're at work? Turtle wears white gloves and holds a sign. He tells the cars which way to go. Snake wears an apron and a tall hat. He is making pizzas. But Turtle and Snake know just how to end a busy day— with a pizza party! Simple vocabulary, frequent repetition, and illustrations that offer clues to the text make this one of the easiest Easy-to-Reads around— and help emergent readers gain important confidence in their reading skills.
I liked this one a lot! Great for an emergent reader -- simple sentances, picture clues, and repetition.
Turtle is a crossing guard and snake is a pizza maker. The text never names their jobs, its tells you what they use (gloves/hat/sign, and apron/tall hat/spoon) and what duties they perform -- this leaves an opening for your child to guess the job title him or herself. I love that turtle has a short, stout house, short, stout bed, and two fat slippers while snake has a tall, skinny house, a long narrow bed, and just one slipper! (In the turtle and snake go camping book turtle has a round sleeping bag and snake's resembles a tube sock...very funny!)
I love the Turtle and Snake readers, it's a shame they seem to be so hard to find. Turtle is so perfectly round and everything he owns is perfectly round for him, while snake is his slim little opposite. In this reader, Turtle and Snake both have jobs to go to. Turtle is a crossing guard and Snake makes pizzas. The book doesn't tell you outright what their jobs are, but gives you clues by telling you and showing you pictures of what they need for work (although I admit with Snake I was thinking regular pies, not pizza pies). Both of them have slightly bad days at work, but they both get together after work to enjoy dinner with friends and realize it was still a pretty good day after all.
