Janet Anne Haradon Dailey was an American author of numerous romance novels as Janet Dailey (her married name). Her novels have been translated into nineteen languages and have sold over 300 million copies worldwide.

Born in 1944 in Storm Lake, Iowa, she attended secretarial school in Omaha, Nebraska before meeting her husband, Bill. Bill and Janet worked together in construction and land development until they "retired" to travel throughout the United States, inspiring Janet to write the Americana series of romances, where she set a novel in every state of the Union. In 1974, Janet Dailey was the first American author to write for Harlequin. Her first novel was NO QUARTER ASKED.

She had since gone on to write approximately 90 novels, 21 of which have appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List. She won many awards and accolades for her work, appearing widely on Radio and Television. Today, there are over three hundred million Janet Dailey books in print in 19 different languages, making her one of the most popular novelists in the world.

Janet Dailey passed away peacefully in her home in Branson on Saturday, December 14, 2013. She was 69.

Of the 4 stories I could only totally finish 2 of them. The other 2 I just couldn't get into so I skimmed through to the end of those stories. Enjoyed the stories by Janet Dailey & Debbie Macomber.

Four stories by well-known authors, Janet Dailey, Debbie Macomber, Rebecca Brandywine, and Jo Beverley, ranged from current romance to historical romance. One was a time travel story, which I generally do not care for, especially when the heroine stays in the past. One was a delightful historical about a 16-year-old schoolroom miss not yet out who discovers a secret door in her bedroom when her older sister comes to London for her come-out. Anna, although only 16, is a sensible young woman who has more sense than her flighty older sister and somehow walks off with the prize. The other two stories are modern romances involving former fiancées who get a second chance. Neither was quite my cup of tea, but both gave me ideas for a possibly different storyline which I would have liked better.

each book was great.
castles in the sand was interesting, but the ending could have been better. The ending was a big disappointment since I have read some of Janet Dailey's work.
the marrying kind had such a good ending. Such an interesting story from Debbie Macomber.
hasten down the wind was really good, but it was a bit confusing in the beginning. The ending was really good. Such a good book by Rebecca Brandewyne.
forbidden affections by Jo Beverley was really good. The ending was ok, but I would like to know what happens later on. It was a very interesting book

4 different stories from 4 different time periods. I had the hardest time with the Forbidden Affections because it was set in England in the late 1800's. It's not something I normally read.

Forbidden Affections by Jo Beverly - did not hit the same as a grown woman of 40 as it did when I was a young 20-something.

I was drawn to this one because I am a huge fan of Debbie Macomber. I had never read any of the other authors' works, so I was curious to see whether or not I would like them. I've come away with mixed reviews.

I enjoyed Castles in the Sand by Janet Dailey. It's a very simple story about a man returning to the place he grew up, and focuses on the relationship with his friend Bridget. Some things about it were a bit unrealistic and other parts predicable, but overall I enjoyed it.

As I mentioned, I am a huge fan of Debbie Macomber, so as expected, I enjoyed The Marrying Kind. I think I could relate to it because from time to time I've had those dreams of what might happen if I came across an old boyfriend. Often life goes on after a relationship, but what happens when that person crosses your path again? This one was my favorite story from this compilation.

Things took a different turn in reading Hasten Down the Wind by Rebecca Brandewyne. For me, once I start a book, I stick with it and finish it. If I weren't like that, I would have just skipped over this story. It was probably one of the most ridiculous stories I have ever read. It was part western, part historical fiction, part romance, part science fiction. This woman is watching her favorite movie and a storm zaps her back in time where she almost immediately falls into a romantic relationship with the character she's been obsessed with, Chaingo. Besides the joke of a plot, I really dislike stories where love scenes are written with such a choice of words that it is just totally cheesy. I tried flipping through to find one part that I particularly thought ridiculous, but I couldn't find it again. Anyway, it's just an overly flowery choice of wording that made me roll my eyes. I'll just leave it at the fact that this story was such a waste of time.

Finally came Forbidden Affections by Jo Beverley. After reading Brandewyne's story, I was a bit hesitant about another period piece, but this one was better than expected. I liked that there was also a hint of a mystery in with the romance. I truly enjoyed the characters and was rooting for a happy ending.

Overall I would recommend this, but would suggest skipping over Brandewyne's story. It just doesn't have the same quality as the other three.

Castles in the Sand by Janet Dailey 3***
Not a bad story but hard to start liking our hero. Nice ending, but hard at times to keep reading to get there. My comment while in the middle of reading the story: Very strange. We're suppose to believe in a hero who won't talk to his dying father whom he hasn't seen in 12+ years but came back to "not" see him. Odd, very odd.

4 enjoyable short stories. One about the old west, two about young love and finding each other again, and a historical romance with an interesting twist. I enjoyed reading each of these stories.
