"The principal’s voice boomed through the classroom. The hustle and the bustle ceased immediately. Thirty pairs of eyes shifted to the front, first to him and then to the woman by his side. She was tall, even without the heels which lifted her high above the stocky man with the round face. A bun of thick, brown hair the size of a large grapefruit sat on the back of her head. A pair of pencils stuck through the bun and out both sides. Her lips curled ever so slightly above her chin as though she knew she should smile but had no desire to do so. The students' disinterest soon turns to excitement as Miss Castillo begins a story about the machine which takes them back to the final week of August 1939 where an English boy and a Polish girl are about to start the adventure of a lifetime.
