A heartwarming story about a small panda whose home is threatened by the encroachment of humans. On the slopes of Misty Mountain, a mother panda cuddles her baby. His name is Pi-shu, and when he was born he was no bigger than one of the patches around his mother s eyes. Pi-shu the little panda loves to explore the slopes of the mountain where he lives with his mother Fei-Fei. One day when Pi-shu ventures farther down the mountainside, he encounters people for the first time. They are clearing more and more trees from the forest. It is no longer safe to stay, so Pi-shu and Fei-Fei set out on an arduous journey across the mountains in search of a new home. John Butler s compelling words and his exquisite, lifelike paintings help young readers understand the joy and tenderness of giant panda families. A Panda Facts page at the end of the book invites readers to learn more about this endangered species.
Beautiful illustrations accompany this sweet story of Pi-shu, the little panda, and his mother, Fei-Fei. Young readers will learn about a panda’s habitat, which could then easily segue into an introduction to endangered species.
This is a wonderful tale that depicts a mother panda caring for her baby, showing how pandas are raised. Embedded in the story is a cautionary tale of mankind's encroachment into their habitat, which is at least part of the reason why the panda is considered an endangered species. The illustrations are amazing - the detail is wonderful and the pandas looks so soft and fuzzy, you wish you could just hug them. Pi-shu is adorable, especially as a little panda baby...we all made "awwww...he's so cuuute" comments throughout the book.
Elliot adored this sweet book about a baby panda and his mama on the slopes of China’s Misty Mountain. John Butler’s animal illustrations are always masterful and they were especially beautiful with the lush forest and mountain setting.
