More to Texas than Cowboys

Out of the mouths of babes...

After a decade away, Greer Bell is returning to Loveless County, hoping for a reconciliation with her family - one that includes their acceptance of her nine-year-old daughter, Shelby. Thanks to the local land-grant program, Greer's also the new owner of a dilapidated property she's turning into a guest ranch. She's risking her financial future on it.

But she's risking far more than that on Noah Kelley, the man who wants to marry her despite the town's disapproval and all her efforts to discourage him. Shelby, however, is definitely in favor of having Noah as her dad - and sometimes kids know best.

Roz saw her first book, Red Hot Pepper, published by Harlequin Books in February 1990. She has written for several Harlequin series lines as well as special projects and online serials. Besides being a writer Roz has worked as a medical secretary and as an administrative assistant for both an elementary school and a community college. Part of her love for writing came from moving around with her husband during his tenure in the Marine Corps and later as a telephone engineer. The richness of settings and diversity of friendships she's experienced continue to find their way into Roz's stories.

this book was ok, but it wasn't fabulous.
first, the editing was shoddy. I found several errors that stuck out like sore thumbs. it almost seems like it was written and edited in a hurry.
Second, I hate to say it, but none of the characters, except for Noah, was very likeable. I thought Greer was honestly a shrew and not a very good mother to Shelby. Greer's and Noah's parents were awful, and so were most of the townsfolk.
Third, too many characters and storylines made this a confusing read where nothing was resolved. The sabotage that Greer and the others had endured wasn't ever really cleared up. it was as if the author had a tight deadline and rushed to finish it rather than carefully thought out the conclusion. The romance between Noah and Greer similarly felt rushed.
All in all, it's a pleasant read, but if you're looking for something with deep meaning and well fleshed-out characters, mosey right along.

Greer Bell's returning to Loveless County with her daughter, Shelby, as part of a land-grant program. She left town right after high school, after an unexpected pregnancy. Her father was a high-level deacon, and the pastor had been the hell-fire-and-brimstone type, unrelenting in his condemnation.

One of the first people she meets on her return is Noah Kelley, the son of that unpleasant pastor, and a pastor in his own right. He lives out his beliefs quite differently though, and he falls for Greer and Shelby despite her attempts to discourage any sort of relationship.

A story of reconciliation...

In Fox’s romantic suspense novel, Greer Bell has returned to Loveless County following an absence spanning a decade. She comes hoping to mend fences with her family and introduce them to her nine-year-old daughter, Shelby. With some financial help, she has purchased a rundown ranch with hopes of making it their home. Noah Kelley is interested in marriage and Shelby is in his corner.

A good Cowboy at Heart romance.
