The idea that the Russians were investigating psychic abilities for nefarious purposes is nothing new, unfortunately the execution of this story is nothing new either. A group of people share a dream of a burning man which foreshadows their own latent psychic abilities. They gather to make sense of the mystery but the execution is so pedestrian that who cares?
Author Michael Hammonds does give the characters distinct personalities but the story just trots along with no real goal in site. The book is labeled as horror on the spine but this is not a horror novel, at best a spy thriller with some science fiction elements.
