Huck and Trinity's book has by far been one of the best for the Smoke Series by Abbi Glines. It could be that I could relate some to Trinity's life, past and present. This author really has a way to capture your attention from the very beginning. Every book I have read from this series, I've had a hard time putting it down. I stayed up A LOT of nights just so I could finish these books. I could read 1 book in a day, just because it left me wanting more, and to know what was going to happen next. I have even gone back and re-read every single one of these books, and she just released them with in the past several months, with still more characters to come out! This is an Author I have loved since the Fallen to Far books with Rush, and the Seabreeze Series. If you haven't read them, you most definitely should!
This story is about Huck and Trinity. Huck is the right-hand man to the future boss of the Southern Mafia, which is Blaise. If you have not read Blaise and Maddy's books, then I would start with them. Their stories are book 1 & 2 and you don't want to miss them. You could get confused on who these characters are if you don't start from the beginning story. You will grow to love every character throughout these books. Each book is on a Southern Mafia bad boy, or as Maddy calls them the "Rodeo Squad" lol. Every book is different in its own way and naughty, but every single one is just as delicious as the last. They will have you ordering the next one in a hurry, or like me, waiting for the newest one to be released. Abbi Glines releases a new one every month. You'll be pre-ordering the newest one and going book crazy until it's released.
Amazing job by the Author on this book. Huck's book is by far one of my favorites, with Levi and Saxton's books coming in close 2nd. Huck can get any girl that he wants. Hell, girls practically throw themselves at him and his friends whenever they come around. So, what is it about Trinity, that keeps her on his mind 24/7. Could it be that she was engaged to his brother Hayes before tragedy happened and he died. Leaving this beautiful girl behind, that was shaped in all the right places. No, he couldn't think like that, not about her. No matter if she turns him on every time, he lay eyes on her. Leaving his brothers funeral that day and going on with his life was what needed to be done. His brother didn't want the life he lived, to be part of the "family." The mafia family that is. Hayes grew up good, with his grandparents who loved him and kept him away from the life Huck lived. It isn't until they are out doing a "clean sweep" job that everyone in the house had to die, and that meant everyone, no witnesses, well except one he wasn't expecting to see.
Trinty had just started he first day as a maid at her new client's house. She knew nothing about them, just that they paid good money, and she could use all the money she could get. Leaving the place, she grew up had been easy, now that Hayes was gone. He was the only thing that seemed to make her happy, even if it was just for a little bit. Trinity had a very hard childhood, one that would break most people's hearts. She was still living in that nightmare, no matter how hard she tried to escape it. It wasn't until she met Hayes. He had become her best friend that she dated. She just didn't understand why he never wanted more to do with her than a few kisses, hand holding and cuddles. Yes, he was a preacher like his grandfather, maybe he didn't believe in more before marriage. Even if she did try more than once, he always turned her down, or changed the subject. Maybe her stepmother was right about the way she looked. It came as a shock when he asked her to marry him. She said yes, but she wasn't in love with him. She doesn't think she is capable of loving anyone. I think Trinity said yes because Hayes was a safe place for her. Even if he knew nothing about her childhood, and even her adult life due to her stepmother Tabitha and her son Roy.
***Warning, if you have triggers due to childhood abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, any kind of trauma in those areas, please read this book with caution!! I have had a lot of traumas in my life and this book did bring up some old memories for me. It is a tearjerker when you do learn about Trinity's life. Plus, this book will have you hating and being pissed at Huck sometimes. He is an ass to Trinity and treats her like complete shit. But in all fairness, he knew nothing of her childhood until later on in the book. So just read with caution, and you will come around to Huck.
Back to what I was saying, Trinity was cleaning a house when she is all of a sudden met with a gun to her temple. Moments away from death she hears a familiar voice that orders Gage to stop and drop the gun. A voice that she had only heard once before at his brother's funeral. She had no clue what was going on, but she was taken from the house, and was in the back of an SUV. Huck had no idea why she was there, maybe she was working for the enemy. Maybe she knew more than she was leading one. Huck had a hard time trusting her, and his attitude towards her got even worse when Trinity's background check came back. He automatically started treating her like a criminal, treating her like trash because he believed she was leading his brother on, and Hayes had no idea what her past had shown. She wasn't good enough for his brother, and his brother died thinking she was a good woman when she wasn't. Everyone else in the house fell in love with Trinity. She cooked every meal for them and was all around a sweet and shy person with insecurities.
Trinity doesn't know what it is about Huck's bad mouth and attitude towards her that turns her on so much. Yes, Huck is described as the Greek God, the Viking throughout the other books. He's tall, muscles for days, with tribal tattoos on his chest and shoulders. Plus, a surprise piercing somewhere, that Trinity ends up loving. So, you can see that Trinity is attracted to him. Why couldn't see have felt like this towards her fiancé when he was alive. Who was she kidding, Hayes never even looked at her like he was hungry, and she was his next meal. He never kissed her the way that his brother, Huck did. When Huck starts to slowly learn the truth about Trinity's past, everyone makes him feel like a dick for treating her the way he did. Regardless she was engaged to Huck's brother, who was a Kingston. Kingston's family and the Hughes went back hundreds of years, and they always take care of family. Trinity had been engaged to a Kingston, so she was family, and would be protected by the family. The question was, would the most important person in her life now become her protector. Was Huck ready to fight her demons? Become that man she needed, or will old ways come back. And if Huck didn't become that man, would someone else in the family step in and step up? Was Trinity willing to give up something she has been hiding from Huck, because she is scared it will chase him away? And once Huck has a taste, will he ever look at another female that way again, or will he get his new favorite snack all the time, and he isn't talking about Trinity's cooking.
You will come to learn more about Gage and Levi in this book and they are just a tag team of fun. They are deadly, don't get it twisted. Gage is psycho and twisted and Levi is just as deadly and messed up. Their parts in the books are just great, Abbi words their lines just right to where you can't help but laugh at them and the way they banter and carry on. Gage knows how to get under someone's skin in a heartbeat, even if it's his own friends. They are raunchy, and sometimes share the same partner at the same time. They loved to whip pale asses with belts and get their packaged sucked way more than enough. The sex in this book is graphic and very detailed... just the way I like it! If you are wanting hot and steamy, with some action thrown in every once in a while, please read the Smoke Series by Abbi Glines. The first book is free on Kindle unlimited, and her kindle book prices are fair for these books. If you haven't read anything by Abbi Glines, try the first book. She always keeps her readers coming back for more. After the Smoke Series, I would recommend the Fallen to Far Series with Rush Finely. Omg, can we say hot and badass. The Fallen to Far series is what I read first by Abbi Glines years ago and had me falling in love with a fictional character, Rush. It is still to this day my favorite books. The Smoke Series though is really close to tying with them. Then try the Seabreeze series. Her books will leave you hot and wanting more. Maybe a little turned on and achy too, or a lot, I don't judge. Books like this are what I love to read. I am a 36-year-old paraplegia from a car accident in 2018. I was not wearing my seatbelt, so I broke my vertebrae in to me Spinal Cord 4x. I cannot express to you how it is to never be able to walk again, to never be able to pee like I use to, and to not be able to feel anything from the waist down. I truly do mean nothing, no feelings. NO more O's if you know what I mean. And I had just learned to start getting them from new partner at the age of 27. My car accident happened the day after my 31st birthday, So I had only been blessed with feeling something so amazing for only 4 years and then it was gone. I miss it and crave it, but nothing I have tried has ever worked. So, I escape into my books of lust, sex, kink, smut, any kind, just to have the words make me feel all hot and bothered, and like I am me again. I can't have the O anymore, but I can imagine through words, those feeling again. Plus, it helps with my pain a lot to. To take my mind off it and other things going on in life. Thank you, Abbi Glines, for making me feel alive again through your words.
