Of all the grand visions conjured by the movies, few captivate us like that moment when the lovers on the big screen finally come together in a passionate kiss—one that pulls at our heartstrings and burns its way into our memories. In these larger-than-life images of romantic abandon, all the cinematic elements align, creating a magical moment full of promise, delicious anticipation, and heartfelt bliss. The romantic fireworks generated by Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh in Gone With the Wind ? Or the swoon-worthy first kiss of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in Titanic ? Great Kisses compiles fifty beloved movie kisses—both classic and contemporary—with the famous lines that accompany them, and is a perfect keepsake for movie buffs and hopeless romantics alike. I admit it; I bought this little book because of Audrey Hepburn, but I'm glad I did. For the most part it was really enjoyable. Of course I loved all of the "kisses" and the movie quotes that accompanied them. Many of the movies featured I have heard of but have never seen so I have quite a few to add to my "movie list" but it was also fun reading quotes and the short blurb that accompanied them of the movies that I have seen. I love that Audrey was featured three times; once for my most favorite movie of all; "Roman Holiday" but I love the other movies featured as well. to be honest, it's probably more fun to watch the movies rather than read the book, but if you're looking for a quick read and you love classic movies, Audrey Hepburn or kisses, this is the book for you!
This book is so cute! It is billed as a coffee-table book so I expected to be approximately 8.5 x 11 but it is about half that size. It's thin too which make it really fun to just pick up and flip through. Some great movies but some of them I have not seen. I will quickly be adding them to my "to be seen" list.
The format is a picture of a great kiss from the movie followed by a quote of the scene (including the kiss). I bought it for myself as a little Valentine's present. The people I went to dinner with couldn't put it down!
This was a nice, quick read but I would have appreciated more from movies that were made in the last 20 years. From memory there was only 3 or 4 from recent films.
2.5 stars. A totally silly, of course, but enjoyable. The editor must have a huge crush on Ingrid Bergman -- she's in 4 or 5 of the kisses. He shouldn't have been allowed to repeat actors.
