Setting: Alaska near Moose Peak (fictional). I've lived in Alaska for 49 years and also love Cozy Mysteries, so I was very excited to read this book. I read the prequel, Ginny Jomes and the Stolen Cabbage Caper and then this book and thoroughly enjoyed both! P.S. Prequel not a requirement to enjoy Murder at the Summer Solstice Sleuthfest! LOL! Ginny Jomes, an amateur sleuth, is a Delight!
A body is discovered in the tram owned by Donna Matthews, who is also the owner of the Inn and Restaurant. Ginny and Donna belong to a Book Club and when Donna becomes the prime suspect and is arrested, Ginny rallies the Book Club to help solve the murder and get Donna out of jail.
Ginny becomes suspicious when Conrad Marks, an author and retired Marshall, is seen meeting with Bric several times, even though he denies knowing Bric, who is only one additional Suspect. Ginny teams up with former Marshall, Conrad Marks to find the real Killer. No spoilers now! You'll have to read the book to discover how all the pieces of the Murder Puzzle fit together.
I received an ARC Book from the author, and this is my Voluntary and Honest Review! I am anxious to read more books in the Ginny Jomes Alaskan Cozy Mystery Series!
Ginny Jomes has to step in to save Donna a Maven Lodge owner from wrongful incarceration thanks to an inept constabulary, donning her sleuthing hat and gathering the other fellow Moose Peak Mavens . Of course these things never run smoothly and she’s soon trying her best not to be on the killer’s next hit list . Very well written , described very well and immersive reading . The characters are a real hoot too . I read an advance copy and my review is voluntary in my own words
This was an okay read. I liked the setting and the characters. I didn’t like that the reader wasn’t given enough information about the crime to figure out whodunnit. I guessed who did it, but had nothing to back up my guess. The author had to explain what was going on that caused the murder in the first place. Maybe as the series continues, the books will become more sophisticated.
Murder at the Summer Solstice Sleuthfest: Book 1 A great story from Alaska with a woman sleuth Ginny and her dachshund Polly. Ginny still grieving the loss of her husband, takes on finding the real murderer of a member of her friend Donna's lodge. The reader will enjoy the sleuth and her determination to find the real killer during a writers conference being held at Donna's lodge.
Great cozy mystery with lots of heart! Ginny Jomes is a retired teacher and widow. Her husband, the former police chief of Moose Peak, was murdered two years ago. She and her friends, the Moose Peak Mavens, team up to solve a murder that happened on a tram for the lodge belonging to one of the Mavens. The new police chief is a bumbling idiot and has arrested Donna, the lodge owner, for the murder. With her mini dachshund by her side, Ginny follows the clues to the real killer and solves the case. I loved this book (and the prequel Ginny Jomes and the Stolen Cabbage Caper) and immediately purchased the next book in the series. I found the setting of Alaska to be quite interesting, and enjoyed the tidbits about the town and the surrounding areas. Looking forward to reading the next book!
I love finding Alaskan authors. Boy was I surprised to find this book by Alaskan author Bebe Steiner, who lives in Anchorage, Alaska - as do I!!! I love cozy mysteries and this was a really good book. I enjoyed all of the characters and am looking forward to reading the second in the series - a series that I hope is ongoing. Thank you Ms. Steiner.
