Blanche Marriott began writing romance novels in 1991 while balancing her career as a wood products manufacturing manager. She often joined the troops in the factory, working on sanders, drills, and saws. It gave her time to "talk" to the characters in her head and figure out what they would do next. In 2001 she switched careers and now works for a CPA firm as an accounting assistant, specializing in payroll.
She has completed 14 novels while staying active in 2 writing groups, serving on the Boards of Directors several times, and a number of conference committees. But the best part was the life-long friendships she's formed with so many writers, published and unpublished.
Her first published novel, KALEIDOSCOPE, won 2nd place in the 2003 WisRWA Write Touch Readers' Award for published authors. Her second book, WAY OUT WEST, won the prestigious New Jersey Romance Writers' 2003 Golden Leaf Award for Short Contemporary. WAY OUT WEST was also a finalist in the 2004 Virginia Romance Writers' HOLT Medallion Awards.
Her current novels are APRIL'S FOOL and HIS BROTHER'S BABY. She also has a non-fiction humor book, BORN TO BITCH, chronicling life's little annoyances.
Blanche lives in Rhode Island with her husband. She enjoys gardening, reading, and playing with her grandkids. You can visit her website, www.blanchemarriott.com, or email her at blanche@blanchemarriott.com, or follow her on Facebook (Blanche Marriott)
This ebook was downloaded to my Nook library when it was offered for free in Feb, 2013. Nook servers were under attack in Oct 2020, so I had to wait until that attack was repaired to retrieve it from Barnes and Noble's cloud storage. I was successful Oct 24, 2020. This was a light romance that was fun to read.
The first thing I need to say is I love Romantic Westerns and...what an imaginative story! The story flowed with such ease that it almost felt as though you were there with the characters. The suspense of the story held me to my seat, and I laughed right along with the charming characters! Major kudos! I just wish there was MORE!
185pgs, Some of us live for tomorrow...some long for the old days. A fantasy western town is the last place city girl Callie Sumner expects to find love. Her escape to the remote town is a desperate effort to leave her unhappy past behind and start anew. But the hardships of the Old West throw her for a loop until a handsome gambler shows her the West through his eyes. Benton "Rand" Randall leaves the corporate rat race to find anonymity in Way Out West. What he finds is a breath of fresh air in a sassy saloon girl who warms his frozen heart. But his past catches up when a vengeance-seeking former employee threatens everything he values, including the town and Callie. Will he lose Callie if he exposes his identity to save the town and his corporate empire? Can she love a man she knows only as a gambler?
Love, love, loved this story! Callie's running away from a relationship. Again. But this time, she's escaped to a Wild West reenactment town. Rand is the town's charming gambler. Within minutes of their first meeting, sparks fly between the two. But both have secrets that make it difficult for them to trust their hearts. This romance was fun and wonderful. Callie was a complex character who knew she needed to grow and Way Out West, while meant to be an escape, becomes the means for her to find her courage. Rand is the ideal hero with a lot of charm and a quick wit. With delightful secondary characters peppering the village, this story kept me enthralled.
Nice, clean little novel about two people in a place called Way Out West - 1 is trying to start her life over, 1 is having a "week getaway" from his unsatisfactory lonely life in the real world. Way Out West is a "true" western town, where everything is done like it was in 1800 - no running water, no electricity, outhouses, no cars, you walk or ride a horse or wagon, etc. There are no real guns as part of the "rules" of this "tourist spot". It was a nice read, kept my attention though a tad slow. Before you get too far into it, you know that one of the characters is involved in "Way Out West" Enjoyed it.
This was cute. I'm not a fan of westerns but since this is more a "fake western" I decided to read it (and it was free). I enjoyed it. Rand is such a gentleman and I did like how he took a kind possessive nature towards Callie. I wish it had been a bit longer so we could find out more about her relationship with family. I also would have liked to have known how Becky and Abe came to be long term employees. Fun read that I enjoyed. this is the second book I've read by this author. the first was April's Fool and it is one of my favorites.
Way Out West is a delightful, quick, fun read. The unique and imaginative story line will keep you reading until the end. This book contains a good dose of laugh out loud humor and some mystery. The characters are very likable. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a enjoyable, feel-good book. Even though this story moves very quickly, you will not want to put it down.
I enjoyed reading this. I found it to be an interesting idea. In fact I'd love to visit a "working" town of the old west era. I had a couple of chuckles along the way...especially the riding of a horse when not familiar with it(that brought back memories). There was a touch of mystery...but not enough to put it on that shelf. All in all a very entertaining read!!!
What a wonderful story! Living in Arizona I am very familiar with tourist towns of the old west. I am always a sucker for a romance novel but rarely do I give them 5 stars. If there isn't already a town just like this some where, there should be. I look forward to more novels by Blanche Marriott.
I just loved this book. Usually when i read a book it is fun for me to get into the characters and into there world but this book was WAY fun with the old west theme. It was a fabulous setting change for me.
thoroughly enjoyed the story, and the characters. think the idea if a real western town is great and is what we need, ti remind id the important things in life. well done!
