Repetitive, boring, NEEDS EDITS
I didn't finish this, and I'm an OCD completionist. I'm normally a book-a-day reader, and I pushed on this 5-book series for over 2 weeks. I kept reading until book 4 hoping the protagonist who should've died in the first book would finally get what he deserved, but no joy.
Intimate scenes can be summed up easily: "Pressure built between her hips." "Hot (sometimes warm) liquid spilled into her." - Nearly every intimate scene in the first 4 books.
Timelines make no sense. Author says weeks have passed, but there's no built up tension from the female lead sleeping with one or two of the men prior while the other(s) want her, and there's been no discussion. There will be sex scenes during/immediately before battles, but time seems to have stopped everywhere else. For example, there's one scene (don't remember which book) with a couple outside, in freezing temperatures, while the others hold off an attack with a building full of people. But after they "sleep for hours" on the frozen ground next to a fire (which doesn't draw the attention of the attackers), the battle hasn't progressed. It makes no sense.
Book 4 has a lot of humans with abilities they shouldn't have, but these are never explained. Witchcraft *could* explain it, but they hate witches as much as shifters, so again - doesn't make sense.
The author needs to either fire her editor or learn to punctuate. I had to read entire paragraphs sometimes to figure out how the words SHOULD HAVE been grouped. There's a section in book 3 that's just repeated. Multiple pages. The chapter just starts over in the middle of a paragraph, so that was fun. There are also a lot of questions that are ended with periods instead of question marks, which is just annoying.
I'm so sick of hearing that the antagonist "did his research." Find a different way to say it, or maybe just don't repeat it in every paragraph for every entire battle. Most word processors have a built in thesaurus, so there's no reason for this.
I'm annoyed that there isn't more interaction between the women. 2 of them are sisters but barely see each other, even after they end up in similar life situations. There's a bit in book 4 where 2 women meet and instantly feel like sisters (because that totally happens). I kind of want to find a summary of book 5 and find out if they learn anything special about Cassie (whose sister is a witch and mated to 3 shifters but doesn't tell Cassie, so Cassie is terrified the first time she sees shifters) related to her remarkable recovery. If she's a latent witch, that could explain the instant feeling of kinship. However, this urge is not strong enough for me to power through the final book.
