The Story of Easter by Patricia A. Pingry is a simplified version of the Easter Story about Jesus from the Bible aimed at toddlers. This brightly illustrated book tells the story in simple terms for little ones to understand. If you want more information to be given to your children, you could easily have a discussion with those who can understand more.
The Story of Easter is a 22-page board book that is approximately six inches square--a good size for toddlers to hold on their own with the thick cardboard pages that can withstand a lot of use. The illustrations are especially nice and brightly colored. This book has been out for more than 20 years but the publisher updated the illustrations and gave it a fresh look. It is a classic that has withstood the test of time for many families.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own.
“Now on Easter morning, you’ll know that Jesus loved us so much that … he gave his life for us so that we can live too,” Patricia A. Pingry ends her children’s book, The Story of Easter.
~ What ~ This twenty-page board book with rounded corners targets children ages one to four years old. With no scary scenes but mentioning Jesus dying on the cross, it contains the story of Easter. Colorful, engaging illustrations cover both sides of the pages with an easy-to-read font size.
Beginning with the declaration that Spring is coming, this short story reminds us that Jesus loves everyone, was called the Good Shepherd, died on a cross, and rose from the dead on the first Easter. It discusses going to church to sing about our Savior, why there are crosses on church steeples, and why He died for us.
~Why ~ This is a wonderful reminder about the true meaning of Easter. I appreciate it is Biblical instead of secular regarding the holiday and only shows three cross silhouettes so young ones will not get alarmed about Christ’s death. There is enough activity in the pictures to keep a child interested while reading.
~ Why Not ~ Some may not like a book that explains the real meaning of Easter is about Jesus’s resurrection. It does not discuss that our Lord died on the cross for our sins or the eternal plan of salvation, but that may be due to the targeted age group. There are many complicated words that young ones may not understand or comprehend, but they could be explained by the reader. The book may be too hard for beginner readers.
~ Wish ~ I wish all pronouns of Jesus were capitalized for reverence.
~ Want ~ If you are looking for an Easter book for toddlers about Jesus and His love, this would be a lovely addition to a child’s basket this year.
Thanks to Hachette Book Group, WorthyKids, and the author for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.
Within our culture, Easter is marked with Easter Baskets, Egg Hunts, and the Easter Bunny—which does not explain the true meaning of Easter.
Author Patricia A. Pingry begins her book talking about spring, then going to church and hearing a Bible story about Jesus. In the Bible story, the adults and children celebrated Jesus with palm branches, and some people who didn’t like Jesus, put Jesus on a cross to die but then he rose from the grave and the author writes, “We celebrate Easter, because Jesus lived again on that first Easter morning.” The final pages return to the present and help children celebrate our love of Jesus.
Whether you read this story at Easter or any other time of year, THE STORY OF EASTER celebrates and teaches the real meaning of the holiday. I love the writing combined with the illustrations from Alice Buckingham. I recommend this board book.
The Story of Easter is a children’s book about Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. It covered briefly the message of Easter and did it in a way to teach children what the true meaning is. It begins by showing Spring time and bunnies and flowers blooming. It described Jesus as the Good Shepherd and how Palm Sunday started. We see his journey to the cross and how He has risen and it explained why we go to church to sing and worship.
I would recommend this book to children aged 2-8. I immensely loved how colorful and detailed looking the animals were drawn and painted. I loved the air brushes they used and the whole book reminded me of Spring time and Easter. My favorite was the nature scenes and the animals hiding throughout the book. I think children will enjoy picking out all the animals. I enjoyed how it taught children about Jesus being the Good Shephard and how He loved us and died for sins. It’s a great beginner’s book about Easter and Jesus.
"I received this book free from the publisher, Hachette Book Group/Faithwords/ Worthy Kids for my honest review.”
This is the story of Jesus, Palm Sunday and Easter. We learn that Jesus loved all of us very much--both little children and adults alike. He made a big sacrifice for us, gave every one a great gift, and now we can live forever because of Him. Starting with the palms that were laid down for Jesus, to His death, everything is put in terms two-to-five-year-olds are comfortable with, and can understand.
Easter is a joyful time! Some of the ways we celebrate today includes going to church, sharing His love, and spending time with each other. This board book contains lots of bright colors and illustrations that make the story come alive, and will capture the attention of small children. The true meaning of Easter is presented in this great five-star book.
WorthyKids has provided Tickmenot with a complimentary copy of, The Story of Easter, for the purpose of review.
Patricia Pingry has written a story about Easter that is perfect for toddlers. The Story of Easter tells the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection and why we celebrate Easter in a way that is at the understanding level of toddlers. The colorful illustrations by Alice Buckingham complement the text well and give the little ones pictures to help them visualize the story. The Story of Easter is a board book. It is appropriate for home or church libraries. It would also be a good addition to a little one's Easter basket. It is just the kind of book you want for your little one who hasn’t quite learned how to take care of books yet. I received a complimentary copy of The Story of Easter. This is my honest review.
The Story of Easter by Patricia A. Pingry is a beautiful child's book that tells the story of Christ's death and resurrection clearly and simply. Geared for young children the book is made of a sturdy paperboard with rounded edges and at about 6 inches square is a good size for small children to handle. The story is accompanied by enchanting full-color illustrations. This is a great gift to tuck into an Easter basket and add to the toddler's library. I know several preschool children who will love The Story of Easter. I won a copy of the book in a contest and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.
This is a picture board book that tells the story of Jesus Christ being crucified and risen again, which is the reason Christians celebrate the Easter holiday. Writing and describing Easter to young children around the toddler age (and even the below pre-teen ages) is a hard concept for many, especially having to talk about Christ's death, but the author here does a good job in telling the story for the age level audience. This board book presents the story of Easter in simple words and illustrations. Little ones will hear the story of Jesus. That He died, rose from the grave, and all the wondrous things He did for us. The illustrations are bright and colorful and the board book can be easily held with little hands. Recommended for babies and preschoolers.
This book was a simple story of the reason we celebrate Easter. I think this book is great for younger kids who don't know/ understand all that Jesus did for us, this book shows how he saved us in the most simple way. Its great for children to understand.
One of our favorite tellings of the story of Easter (and the time leading up to Easter Sunday.) Perfect for ages 2-10. We've used it since 2019: my granddaughters are now 6 and almost 9. They're really connecting with it this year!
this boook would be for kids ages 3-6. Its an easy reader and doesnt have many words. The Easter Story tells the story of Jesus' life and the first Easter. Jesus heals the sick and chooses his disciples. With gentle treatment, children will learn about love of God, Jesus' death, and his resurrection. Bright and colorful illustrations accompany the story, making this an ideal book for early readers during the Easter season.
This book was very detailed and had many bright colord and would hold the attention of a kid while theri reading this book.
We used to own this book, but found it nothing exceptional. The board book format is durable for young ones and the story line simple, but surely, we can do better with the greatest story ever told?
We like Wildsmith's "The Easter Story" better, though you can see my review for what I consider to be strengths and weaknesses of that work.
I read the little board book. I think its a typical Easter story book for young kids. The writing is good, the illustrations are ok. I do think there are better book versions i could have for Camdyn.
This little childrens book brings the story of Jesus death and resurrection. The main themes are skimmed and it just touches the surface of why we worship Jesus. I think it is a great book for a child's very first understanding of Christ and Easter.
