Tony Austin, a man with no use for a wife but a fierce desire for a child of his own, enters into a passionate and complex relationship with Olivia Anderson, but love has a way of upsetting everyone's plans. Reprint.
Since first publishing in January 1996, Lori Foster has become a USA Today, Publisher’s Weekly and New York Times bestselling author. Lori has published through a variety of houses, including Kensington, St. Martin’s, Harlequin, Silhouette, Samhain, and Berkley/Jove. She is currently published with HQN.
Lori hosts a very special annual “Reader & Author” event in West Chester, Ohio. Proceeds from the event have benefited many worthy causes, including the Hamilton County YWCA Battered Women’s Shelter, the Animal Adoption Foundation, The Conductive Learning Center for children with spina bifida and cerebral palsy, and The One Way Farm, Children’s Home.
The characters were interesting (I find Lori Foster always has distinctly different characters) and they have an interesting 'deal' going on.
One thing I really liked was that the characters don't fully think things through in this book and are alerted to the fact and stumped by it. I can't say more without spoilers. Because, let me tell you, right off the bat you can probably guess how the story will go (not just the HEA but the conflicts that will arise) - so there is no interest in watching everything unfold. The interest for me was in looking at the logic the characters had behind their decisions and then seeing how life took their logic and made it obsolete.
Just a side note. In a few books I have read, the female characters have been infertile and as a result don't feel like they are womanly, or deserved to be loved. I am sort of shocked by that. Is that a common enough assumption in real life, or is that over dramatized for the benefit of the story? Why is adoption or a surrogate never really an option? Seems very irrational to me - and also makes me a little angry. It promotes the idea that a woman worth loving is one that can breed. But maybe this all comes down to low confidence levels of the characters like when a character has had a bad experience in the past and doesn't think they are lovable thereafter.... hmm.
Is it fair to hold a 1990s romance novel to 2022 standards? Probably not. Should publishers reprint 1990s romance novels? Also probably not. Let’s all do better next time.
The first part of this book is hilarious. I laughed and laughed. Then it becomes a bit more serious as Tony and Olivia deal with new feelings, deceit, family and love.

So I didn't finish this. Two things really bugged me and I couldn't get past them. The first was Olivia's thought that she wasn't a "whole woman" really bothered me. It's like saying not having breasts after a mastectomy makes you not a woman. A woman is her mind and heart, not her body parts.
The other thing is that she LIED to Tony throughout their relationship and then went back on their deal (I skipped ahead). Whoa really?! And he still loved her after that. Crazy
Scandalized is the epitome of best laid out plans gone crazy...Here was have two buisness people who think they have everything planned out in perfect organization. Life does not alway go that way and Scandalized puts it all out there....When family and hope for the future overwhelms this coulple, they have decisions to make...great story
Loved it. Would recommend it to anyone that wants to read a truly wonderful book. Have read a lot of Lori Foster books and have yet to read one that isn't great. Thanks for all your hard work Lori !!!
