Read this when I was very young. Loved it, but I remember it made cry in a place or two. It's been years and years since I pulled it off my shelf...I need to read it again.
Read it as a child and it was wonderful but sad as well. It illustrates the plight of rescue dogs. The story was based on true events relayed to the author by a friend or relative. Super good book for 8 year old to preteens.
I read an earlier version of this book as a child in the early 1980s. It has stayed with me all these years. It has both happiness and sadness; a story full of heart. It really reinforces how feeling animals are, as well as the responsibility we have as humans to treat them with love and respect.
