I love finding older Black novels at used bookstores, but I did not love, or even like this book.
This didn't seem like a romance. Ninety percent of the book was spent on Charlotte, maybe wanting to be with her ex-husband, when the bestfriend was end game. Neither are good love interests, and only care about themselves.
I had so many issues with this novel. The bestfriend was very pushy and didn't care about consent. Charlotte continues to leave her 10 year old alone in the house. AAVE was called "ghetto talk." And the characters visit Thomas Jefferson's plantation.
Listened to Coming Home by Roberta Gayle. When her ex-husband returns to win her back, Charlotte Ann Brown, vowing to transform herself into the sophisticated woman she knows he wants, asks her best friend Steve Parker to help her, but when unexpected passion flares between her and Steve, she is forced to choose between them. This book was a little boring. The story was fun. But the denial of Charlie brown was a constant problem. I give this book 3 stars and a 5. An ok read.
