Coming Home by Penny Jordan is a 2000 Harlequin publication.
This is book ten in the Perfect Crightons series. Ordinarily I wouldn’t have started with book ten, but this book has a Manga counterpart in the Kindle Unlimited store, so I thought it would be fun to read them simultaneously.
It was an interesting experience, but I would recommend reading a few of the previous installments before tackling this one.
If I had been a little more familiar with the series, it might have made more of an impact. But, the basically, this is a prodigal son type story. David is favored over his twin brother, but he commits a crime and leaves his family for years. Now, after seeking spiritual advice, he has screwed up his courage to return home and face the music. But once he arrives, he still can’t quite face his family. While lurking around the estate, he meets Honor, a woman specializing in wellness though holistic means. David and Honor begin to fall in love, but what will Honor think when she learns about David’s true identity and his jaded past?
The book has too many characters to keep up with for starters. Too much is crammed into this story and none of it ever gels. The main theme of forgiveness in the family, especially between David and his brother, should have been a touching moment, but it falls flat. The romance is okay, but there is too much family drama for it have bloomed organically, if you will.
I’m not sure if reading the series from start to finish would have helped me understand this story more, or if would be a lost cause, either way. But, because I did adore Penny Jordan back in the day, I would like to give this series a closer look sometime down the road.

Me ha resultado un libro decepcionante, en gran medida, por culpa de la sinopsis de la cubierta. Normalmente, una sinopsis te da una idea sobre aquello de lo que tratará el libro y te plantea el inicio del mismo. En este caso, lo anunciado en último párrafo («Pero llegó el momento de que Honor descubriera la sorprendente verdad, y de que la familia Crighton se enfrentara al escándalo. Porque David estaba listo para regresar a casa») se produce cuando te queda un cuarto de la novela, por lo que al final, terminas con la sensación de que no te han contado nada que no supieses.
Atendiendo a características propias de la obra, he de decir que no me ha parecido acertado que el narrador omnisciente cambiase tanto de foco. La mitad de la novela se cuenta desde la pareja protagonista, mientras que la otra mitad se narra desde la perspectiva de un número considerable de integrantes de la familia Crighton, lo cual resulta bastante lioso dada la cantidad de personas que la conforman. Tratando de justificar tanto cambio de punto de vista, pensé que esto podría deberse a que era un recurso que la autora usaba para plantear los temas de mayor importancia que quedaban por resolver en la vida de David (la relación amorosa con Honor, y la reparación del daño ocasionado en el pasado a Jon, a Olivia y a Jack) para luego poder solucionarlos, pero al final la relación de David con sus hijos sigue estancada, por lo que mi suposición se demuestra errónea; no comprendo para qué tanta perspectiva.
Por último, lamentablemente no he podido empatizar con los personajes. Son tantos que apenas se hace un esbozo de ellos, y ese esbozo tiende a centrarse en problemas que necesitarían de una visita urgente a un psicólogo (ansiedad, posesividad, falta de autoestima, introversión insana…).
En conclusión, le doy un 4 sobre 10.

I really enjoyed this book, which adds some important pieces to the family history. I liked all of David's redemption, the honesty and lucidity with which he recognized past mistakes and the way he tried to recover his relationship with his twin brother Jon. I loved the whole Maddy-Max part: although his change is still unrealistic, the new Max is adorable towards his family. Instead, I am very sorry for the problems between Olivia and Caspar, which however are described (this time YES) in a very plausible and realistic way. At this point I will have to read the next book to find out if their marriage will last... The only part that bored me was that of Jake and Annalise, not because they are not cute and definitely about to fall in love, but in the midst of many other events I could not wait to go on when the book talked about them.

Décimo volume da série The Perfect Crightons.
Primeiro de tudo, não comece por esse livro. Ele tem todo o seu desenvolvimento baseado nas histórias anteriores e a quantidade de personagens secondários pode ser intimidante e confusa para uma leitura inicial.
David finalmente retorna em busca do perdão da família, mas o momento que devia ser climático se perde nos inúmeros dramas acontecendo ao mesmo tempo. Mesmo o interesse amoroso, Honor, não consegue dar o lustro que a trama precisava.
Dispensável.
Primeiro de tudo, não comece por esse livro. Ele tem todo o seu desenvolvimento baseado nas histórias anteriores e a quantidade de personagens secondários pode ser intimidante e confusa para uma leitura inicial.

So many things went on in this small book. I think Ms. Jordan was a little too ambitious in creating these Crighton Saga, it caused many instant attractions and cliffhangers
The Crightons themselves were great, each characters stood out individually, but there were too many of them and they were all protagonist, except maybe Ben. It tended to be difficult when there were many heroes in one book and Ms. Jordan was in danger of repeating over and over again about David's shortcomings caused by Ben's upbringing
And enjoyable book though, at least from the middle until the end

Families, how they are treated when they are young, effects how they act as adults. It is never easy to make the change needed to fix the problems.

Tinha grandes expectativas com o livro do David e o regresso do filho pródigo passados tantos anos, no que toca ao romance com Honor achei que estava tudo normal e típico de Penny Jordan, quanto a família propriamente dita acho que precisavam todos de fazer terapia familiar para poderem ficar resolvidos uns com os outros, todos mandam bitaites na vida uns dos outros e ninguém se entende, gostei da relação dos irmãos gémeos, essa parte foi muito boa.

Hm, to be honest, I expected much more from this book - it's Penny Jordan after all. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met. There were too many characters for such a - relatively - short book. It could have been a family saga, literally, with many, many books, instead it read like a series of snippets - the author barely scratched the surface, she simply described the characters, you didn't feel for them at all. In the end, it felt like Jordan simply bit off more than she could swallow. Fewer characters and a more in-depth story would have been better.

I had no idea when I picked up this book that it was the tenth book in a series. A bit hard to follow who all the characters were, a lot of innuendo that I felt completely left out of. Overall though, predictable and light fluff.
