Life as the number one enemy of drug dealers, pimps, murderers, and the dregs of Tasmanian and Australian scum isn't easy. It requires finesse, class, and savoir faire. Mark Brandon Read is a man who possesses all of these attributes, combined with a deft light touch and an impressive collection of small arms. In his second volume of memoirs, Chopper comes to grips with life outside of jail and unexpected fame.
"The one who wins the game is the one who lives the longest. All I want to do is outlive my enemies. All I want out of life is to have the last laugh."
It's almost impossible to figure out where the truth and bullshit are in this book, but in the end I'm not sure it really matters as this is stll a wild and entertaining book. Read just has this amazing sense of dark humor that makes you keep reading. Read may be a violent sociopath, but he's a really great writer and a fantastic storyteller. In the end it might be best to listen to Read himself "never let the truth get in the way of a good yarn".
