Skye

Rate this book
Skye is a twenty-year-old dark haired beauty who is bored to death with her life in 1907. She has always been a free spirit and challenger of what was expected of her. While growing up, she was difficult for her parents to control, because she tended to defy all the rules of etiquette for a young woman of her time. It was not surprising to her brother, Cade, when Skye asked if she could live with him in the city. She declared she would die if she had to stay another day in the country where nothing ever happened.
Once Skye was away from her parents, Daniel and Virginia Kestler, she began to question who she was and where she had come from. It soon became clear that something was amiss. After much probing, she discovered she was a child of time travel and she was not from the century she was living in. She had actually been born in another year in the future, 2031, and Kestler was not even her last name. What were her parents hiding from her? Why had she never been told her real name and birth date? How would this new knowledge affect her going forward? And who was the persistent man who was pursuing her through time, from 1907 to 1957 to 1927 and back to 1907 again?

The handsome Remington Hart, a member of The Red Guard, lives in the twenty-first century in the year 2051. His job is to find all of those who have fled the oppressive government and bring them back to where they belong. When he realizes it is possible to time travel and one entire family has been living in the nineteenth century, he makes it his quest to find Skye Kent Kestler and return her to her proper place. But will his judgement be colored when he meets the beautiful Skye? Will his goals and views of life be changed once he sees what life can be like in a slower, more peaceful time? Will love pull at his heart and convince him to give up everything he was taught in order to stay with Skye, or will he be pulled into the job he first began?

These two time-travel lovers began with determination on Rem's part to fulfill his duties, and fear on Skye's part of what this strange man in her life wants of her, but a burning desire to be together will change everything. Only time will tell if the man who was sent to do a job will disrupt a young woman's life by forcing her to go back with him to a life she knows nothing about.

The first book in the series Branches of Time, spins off from A Slip in Time, an Amazon bestseller in Time Travel Romance, and takes us on a new adventure we could never have imagined. Follow along as Skye not only finds out who she is, as she learns of her true heritage, but also as she discovers that perhaps she’s not as opposed to falling in love as she first thought.

Jane O'Brien

Jane O'Brien discovered her love of writing at the age of ten when she wrote her first ten-chapter book in pencil on notebook paper. She passed it around to all of her friends at school and told them she wanted to be an author. And that planted the seed.
O'Brien's career life has been varied. She was a piano teacher for over 50 years, a librarian, and a professional proofreader. She is also interested in genealogy, having worked on her own family tree, as well as her husband's, for over 40 years, which helps to color most of her novels.
Today, as a grandmother, Jane is finally fulfilling her lifelong dream, after successfully having her thirty-fifth book published, which includes two trilogies, one six-book series, three Christmas novellas, and two Amazon best-selling time slip series. She lives in West Michigan and writes romance with a little history, mystery, and family entanglements, all set in her part of the state.
The stories she weaves are about family and the intricate connections of relatives, past and present.

Fabulous! ✨

I fell in love instantly with this spinoff from the A SLIP IN TIME series. Skye is indeed one fascinating character 😉. I love how the time travel vehicle is new in this series too. Or rather a unique twist to the previous series way of time travel. Daniel and Ginny/Virginia's daughter is one independent, determined, spirited, adventure seeking character that I can't wait to see more of!!! Prepare for the ultimate game of hide and seek...although one party may not know they're playing. Such an exciting read overall! I loved the intrigue, family, the multi generational guesswork, adventure, and so much more. There was definitely not a dull moment, and I truly can't wait to see what next!! A wonderful continuation of a series i love.

Love Branches of time.

What an exciting first book of this new series. I love how Jane O'Brien tells a story. It makes me feel like I'm right there experiencing what's happening. Skye is a smart girl, I just hope she stays that way. The time travel in this book is such an interesting concept on how they control where they go. This story sure kept me on pins and needles of what will happen next. I can't wait for book two. I know how I'd like it to play out.. But I'm not writing it so I will have to wait for book 2.

Skye, Branches of Time series book 1, by Jane O'Brien

Once again Ms. O'Brien has swept me away with one of her fantastic characters! Having a sheltered childhood I can understand a lot of how the main character, Skye, feels about her restrictions. But I was never able to become someone else, like Skye, to see if the "forbidden behavior" was for my own good or because I was a girl and having fun wasn't allowed.

Another fantastic book, and the first in a new series. It’s been the perfect easy read while I’ve been recovering from pneumonia 😷
Already I can’t wait to get started on the next book which I’ve just downloaded 😂.
I was so gutted when the slip in time series came to a conclusion but the start of a new series with some of the same characters was just what was needed to fill the gap!

Exciting adventures

Skye is so interesting and adventurous. She is a free spirit. I like all the characters and how they all intertwine with each other. I am on to the next book. Looking for more of the adventure.

Did you eagerly read all twelve books in the “A Slip in Time” series by bestselling author Jane O’Brien? Did you feel a bit sad and lost when you read the last page in the last book? It was such an engaging series, wasn’t it?

Well, Readers, what have we here? Yes, it’s Jane O’Brien’s first book in a NEW SERIES, “Skye (Branches of Time Book 1)”. It’s a Slip in Time Spinoff! You may remember Skye as a little girl who appeared near the end of the first series.

(If you are a Jane O’Brien fan, I know that you aren’t even going to bother to read this review- you are too busy reading the book. You know it’s going to be amazing!)

But, for those of you who may not be familiar with this series, let’s get you started. In the first series, two sisters from our current time accidentally slip back in time to the mid-1800’s. They find love and plenty of adventures. As the series continued, a few other family members slipped back in time, too. But they went back to their correct years.

It was Skye’s parents who made a short trip back in time, and then returned to their present. But now it’s 2051 and life has grown increasingly more authoritarian and restrictive. For the sake of their children, Skye and Cade, they decided to go back and live safely in the past. Skye was only five years old when they traveled back.

And now as the book begins, Skye is a young adult- feisty, beautiful and ready to spread her wings. She has a vague idea that something is different about her life, and she doesn’t give up until she learns how to time slip. She thinks it will be exciting to learn more about her family and explore different times.

What she doesn’t count on, is that the government of 2051 is committed to finding anyone who has escaped the regime. Remington Hart is the handsome, and serious agent who is in charge of finding people like Skye and her family. What happens when they meet in a different time period?

Love, adventure, romance, science fiction, history- Author O’Brien wonderfully blends it all. “Skye” will intrigue and fascinate you and raise your pulse dramatically. Jane O’Brien knows how to weave intense passion into every time period. The wait is over- time to enjoy “Skye”.

I received an advance digital review copy from the author. This is my honest review.

Spellbinding

I may be a bit prejudiced, as I just love all the books by this author! This new series keeps the reader on their toes as to what can or will happen next.
The old sayings of "be careful what you wish for, " "the grass is always greener, " and "don't wish your days away" all come to mind when following the main character as she moves about her life. It's a thrilling and surprising romp through time, with a somewhat scary look at the future and a loving look at a past time. Take a few hours and enjoy life in other places and times, which seem like old friends.

Time travel futures not for me BUT

I started this book not knowing why cause I haven't read a time travel book that has taken place beyond our time that I have liked and continued to read. But because so far there has not been too much future time I got hooked. I must now continue on to the next one, I need to know what happens to Skye and her family. I have my predictions of what happens but how is intriguing and I want to know if my train of thought will be much like the author's.

Thank you Ms. Jane O'Brien for telling me to give it a chance I'm glad I did.

Wonderful

This book is a continuation of A Slip in Time and it’s been quite an adventure. I was quite surprised to see where it has taken Skye and I can’t stop reading it. Every page is more exciting than the last. Once you start reading it’s impossible to stop. I’m loving it!

Were we ever this innocent?

the contrast between 1907 and 1927 must have been overwhelming at the time. it made me contrast 1957 to 1967 which was probably just as great. I am afraid this future is going to fall on us, g look as d I won't be here to see it.
