MISGUIDED: Toussaint Mafia Book One

Rate this book
Lies, Deceit, and Arranged Marriages are just the tip of the iceberg when you are born into a family that is connected to something greater than you. Everyone has a part to play and the Toussaint girls were no different. Masami, Meilani, Maia and Boston never had a choice. They were to marry good, hustle for the family, and at all times answer to their father the Don. The infamous Carlos Toussaint wasn’t someone you said no to. So, when he told Masami to track down a man she didn’t know named Lyfe and make him fall for her she never questioned it. When he told Meilani to marry Yaseer one of the biggest mafia bosses in town despite her hating his soul she said “okay”. They were loyal to not only their father but the life as well. He’d broken the rules and allowed for them to sit at the table that only men occupied. They had to show gratitude for that. Thanks for his blessings but so quickly they were taught that some traditions didn’t need to go on and that not all lies can be hidden forever. When skeletons from their past come back to haunt them, and the web of deceit that their father carved out for them caves in the sisters find themselves in troubled waters. It’s hard doing right when you’ve always been taught to do wrong. But it's even harder to choose yourself when doing so will entail you turning your back on the man that aided in creating you. Because surely to go against the family, the Don, your father can only end in one way.Death.Welcome to the Toussaint Mafia.

“For the family” is a motto that Carlos Toussaint has embedded into his children. As the Don of the mafia organization nothing breathes life into him more than money, power and respect 🎶what you need in liiiffeeeee 🎶 Even if his children suffer at the hands of his manipulative ways, he can still rest peacefully at night knowing he reigns supreme. This first book was bananas!!!!!! Dominique snapped with the introduction to these characters and the development has you wanting mooorreeeeeee!!! Whew 😮‍💨😵‍💫 where 👏🏽 do 👏🏽I👏🏽begin👏🏽😩😩😩

The Toussaint daughters Masami, Meilani, Maia and Boston are essentially being pimped out by their father. These women were raised from an early age knowing that family comes first and that you must be willing to sacrifice any and EVERYTHING for the greater good! And what’s that greater good?! Anything their father Carlos Toussaint deems as such. After experience the ultimate heartbreak and betrayal when the girls were younger, Carlos put all of his energy into breeding and building an unstoppable empire on the backs of his children.

Lies, deceit, arranged marriages, fkn, sucking and everything in between was on the table as long as the end goal resulted in Carlos getting what he wanted. He had his daughters spread out like a full house hand in a poker game. Nothing and I do mean NOTHING was off limits and sadly these women allowed their father to blindly lead them over a cliff!

The men in the series….. chefs kisssss 👩🏽‍🍳💋!!!! Ossa, Lyfe, Yaseer, Peace and Promise *bites lip* do y’all hear that👂🏽…. The conductor has entered the chat 🚂🚂🚂🚂 I mean every time the author describes them I just drool a bit 🤤😩🤣…. Whew stay focused *in my Tabitha Brown voice* Ok I just had to get that out! Back to more important things…. Right my anxiety 😩😩

My anxiety is sooooooooo MF high right now because when these men realize what these girls father has gotten them into, I don’t even want to read about how it’s going to unfold 🫣🫠. The 💩is going to hit the fan and it’s going to be messy af! The title is sooo fitting because the Toussaint women are misguided af and I need them to sit down and exchange war stories so that they can realize that Carlos is the enemy and take him down!!!!!!! I’m not even mad at that ending because sometimes it takes the baby of the family to boss tf up! This was a phenomenal beginning to this series and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.

Misguided af

WOW what did I just read.

Carlos Toussaint is the Don and he plans on holding on to that title by any means necessary. Even if that means pimping out his daughters. The way this man has mind control over them is beyond me. They were clearly brain washed because they couldn't seem to have an original thought without focusing on what they needed to do "for the family." This story is about 4 sisters and one brother Masami, Meilani, Maia, Boston, and Ossa who are navigating the life of being mafia children to the Don at that. They were raised by their father alone when their mother died tragically when they were young after some terrible secrets were revealed.

The MEN in this story were everything, but hell I almost felt bad for them. They were dealing with some immature, emotionally scarred and unavailable women. None of them knew how to be vulnerable or accept love. Lyfe.....reminded me so much of Sadik from LBs stories with his ginger hair. Chillle the way the BDE was oozing off of him, I would have .... okay let me chill. Just know he was that ninja.
I also really liked Yaseer for Meilani, but the way she played him to the left and just gave him to the heaux was sad. Mei was tripping because he genuinely wanted to love his wife and when she refused, he accepted her terms because after all he was a man. That Tallulah situation was offputting though and took some points away cuz he had me fkd up. I hope Mei gets to a point where she can actually express some feelings. Oh and I loved how Yaseer handled Carlos, he had no fear at all.
Maia clearly needs help. I am so thrown off about her situation that was left wide open, I'm anxious to see how that mess plays out. Boston, baby girl was the only one with some ballz. However, I fear her taking a stand is actually going to leave Peace to be forced into the situation he really doesn't want to be in. Peace with his fine azz was also giving off all the BDE.

We are at a point where Carlos's reign is being threatened. The daughters are wild af but for the most part under his control, clearly MISGUIDED. Well all of them except Boston. Her actions are going to cause some ish with the mafia so I'm eager to see how it will all play out.

Okay spoiler alert.....am I the only one that was weirded out with the therapist situation with Maia??? how she wake up with a different shirt on. Something ain't right there. I just can't with this Peace situation, I feel sick about it, is it just me?? Also why is Carlos trying to act like his brother ain't coming for him, somebody with big ballz is clearly gunning for him to the point where his own team is willing to die about it.

Definitely Misguided

This book had my blood pressure high. They say that art imitates life, if that’s the case we have some f’d up parents out here in this world and Carlos Toussaint is one of them.

Masami the oldest, wants nothing more than to gain power and wealth like a man. Doing any and everything her father asks so that she may one day take his place. The second oldest, Meilani is so confused. She’s been married off to a man she hates. Even though he picked on her as a child, he’s been in love with her since then. He desires a true marriage however Mei doesn’t know how to let him in. Maia the middle child is the black sheep of the family and so angry. She doesn’t want to be that way but can’t help it, she responds to everything with anger and violence. Then there’s Boston, the baby of the family. She appears to be the only one to get her way with Carlos. She seems to be headed in a different direction than her older sisters. That is until Carlos gets wind of her being out there trying to sex her trauma away.

With everything that’s happening in the book the only thing I can focus on is how much of a piece of 💩 of a father Carlos is. His wife and brother really hurt him and it shows. Throughout this whole book he has masterfully manipulated and pimped out each and every one of his daughters for his own personal gain. Despite his daughter’s being grown women, he orders them around like children. They can’t ask questions or defy him, he’s locking them in rooms and he’s marrying them off to whoever he sees fit. I feel so sorry for these women because they have been severely traumatized. They have suppressed past memories and are walking around emotionless. I can’t wait for book two and for all of this drama to unfold. I hope that these girls find out the truth as well as finding the love and healing that they need and deserve. And if this author wants my five star rating, she’ll find it in her heart to unalive that scum of the earth father and allow him to rest peacefully six feet under a sewage system somewhere in book two.

This book was extremely intriguing and intense. As we follow the Toussaint family through their mafia life, it's like peeling back layers. Carlos, as Don and leader of the Toussaint family, has four daughters: Masami, Meilani, Maia, and Boston. Simply put, these females are completely messed up. In his manipulative ways, he gets others and his daughters to do what he wants. In the face of ultimate betrayal by his wife and brother at a time when his daughters are young, It  teaches that family comes first and that loyalty is paramount.

I am captivated by the male characters in this series. I can't wait for these ladies to fall in love. At this very moment, my focus had been on Lyfe, Peace, and Promise. I am intrigued to see whether the sister's relationship with these men will strengthen as a result of the arranged marriages, deceit, and deceptions. Why is the mom a problem? What really happened? Im ready for it all in book 2.

I’ve had this book on my TBR for over a year & I’m so glad I decided to read this based on a recommendation. The title of this book is so fitting. The Don, Carlos Toussaint is running game on all four of his daughters. A pimp, master manipulator, arrogant, out for self, & a HORRIBLE father! Using his daughters to get what he wants.

I’m running to book 2 because finally one of the sisters had enoughhhhhh! This was a good read. 4.75 ⭐️

For the family…

The Toussaint sisters are a MESS and they have their dad to thank for that. He really messed his daughters up mentally with his manipulation and he stayed ready to pimp them out for his personal gain.

Mei, Maia, Masami, and Boston need intense therapy for the lies their father has brainwashed them with. This book was a lot to take in as it laid the ground work for the series.

Note: if you don’t like arranged marriage tropes then this won’t be for you. The editing could have been a little tighter and there was some repetitive details but the story kept my attention.

First and foremost, Carlos ‘The scheming, conniving, manipulative Don’ Toussaint is a piece of work. I hope he gets did dirty in the next book or something. These sisters are such Daddy’s girls… but hopefully they’re getting new daddies in these fine men 😏 I want to know a little more about Ossa, the brother. I’m glad book 2 is out, here I go….

Dominique ma'am! You have really done it this time! What a way to be begin a series, and I need more! Let me first say that Carlos Toussaint is a piece of ish! 😡 Now, that we got that out the way; what is his end game here? He just don't care about his children at all, just about his money and more power! Ughh..... That first chapter left me questioning what REALLY happened? Where is Jazmine? I don't believe she is really gone! You mean to tell me with all the resources Carlos has, he hasn't been able to find Davido? Bull ish! He is a master manipulator, and got his girls on a wild goose chase, and for what? He taught these girls to show no emotion, and to block out feelings. They are all messed up as a result! Masami is the closest to her dad, and the one hiding his secrets. One would think she would use some of that as leverage to get some of what she wants! Getting caught up with Lyfe, and having Jaquis on the backburner is a recipe for trouble! Meilani seems to have some serious trauma that she is withholding, and I hope that she can find her way in all of this. Yaseer genuinely seems to want to work things out with her, and have a real marriage, but she has to let him in. Will she? Maia is a live wire, and I don't know what is up with her! How is she going to get out of her situation? Now Boston! Baby girl really surprised me. I thought she was the spoiled baby, mild and meek, but ya girl had some balls to pull off that stunt! Where is she going, and who will look out for her? Whew! So much was happening, and I hope that the girls get together soon, to realize that their father means them no good! They need to put operation cut the head off the snake in motion, as Carlos needs to go! Will Rueben step up to tell them the truth, and help them? I can't wait for more! Great read! 👍👍👍

This is my first book by this author. She said this was going be a lot to take in and she didn’t lie. There was a lot going on, in a good way. These sisters are so misguided. I’m so ready for the next book. I need to see what happens next and I need some people to get what they deserve. Starting with the daddy. He’s SCUM!!!! I also need to know if my theory about the mother is right…

Speechess. Dominque is an amazing author. All the characters come alive and they are realistic! They are unpredictable and I love that. The plot it page-turning as I try to figure out what is next. Carlos Toussaint...tut tut he is a piece of work. But it does make you think... He's being a father and some times parents can be blinded by the aspirations they have for their children. It's not an excuse but wow, currently reading part two. I like all the characters it's hard to pick a favourite one! But I hope Mei and Yaseer work out for someone reason. Maybe cause I like the whole enemies-to-lovers trope lol

Now this is how you set up a series!!!

Listen, she warns us at the beginning- it’s a few pages, But it’s a lot going on.

This was an entertaining 200+ read. I need more from
these sisters expeditiously. My heart aches for them and I wish nothing but the very worst for Carlos Toussaint. The man is steaming garbage.

After him is Tallauiah or whatever her name is.

I can’t wait for book 2.

There were some jumbled parts, but overall I loved this.

DNF @ 40%. This book reads like a fanfiction and spends more time describing what people are wearing than actually delving deep into the characters and their motives. Glocktober is off to a rough start.

Keep in mind this book was read at a time I am going through a MAJOR books slump.
Regardless here are my thoughts:
- Carlos don’t give a damn about his kids they are pawns and pawns alone.
-I liked how everyone has something going on but I think their names being so similar I often got confused with who story was who.
Overall this was okay but again nothing has been doing it for me lately and I’m so sad about it😩I just wanna read something goodddd

So misguided

The Toussaint siblings have dealt with so much trauma early in their life that it has scarred them. With their father Carlos being ruthless and Coldhearted the “For the Family” motto is destined to destroy his girls. I was so over Carlos. He really doesn’t care about his kids. I feel bad for Boston because she seems to be the most lost and in need of love assurance and direction. Tallulah has irked my nerves but her interaction with Yaseer has me looking at him sideways when at first I was thinking I liked him. Can’t wait to see what’s happening next.

Not for me

I tried to get into this story, but... It's not my type of story. Arranged marriages are nothing but abuse of power, deceptive acts against others, and unhealthy overall decisions aren't my type of enjoyment for reading materials.

Engaging plot but very busy with what seemed like no single focal point; however, it is the foundation for the series. That being said, this was an enjoyable read that IMO would have benefitted from being first person narration with multiple POVs. Being in third person made it feel like a lot.

So….. Let’s be clear, Carlos was a B A S T A R D. Calculating, manipulative, selfish, arrogant and a host of other things. Not to mention a horrible father. He loved to say ‘for the family’ but The family out here pimping, lying, hiding, and behaving very unfamily-like. So respectfully Carlos, the family ain’t shyt.

Sami, Mei, Maia and Boston were incredibly damaged and like the title suggests misguided. Maia was jealous, angry, and hateful. Masami was a power hungry robot and gullible where her father was concerned. Boston was reckless and impulsive; Mei was closed off and lost. A mess. All of them.

Idkkkkk Yaseer, Mei’s husband, was kind of a vibe, a likkle bit sexist but a vibe nonetheless. I hate that her father groomed them to be emotionless. Unsuccessfully at that.

I need more on Nano tho. The young shooter has me intrigued. I guess I’ll have to read on to see.

3.75 stars.

Let me put you on this book. When I tell you I couldn't put it down ...it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.  It's giving arranged marriages, family secrets, and forbidden romance. And I'm here for it!

Carlos, the dad in this story, is trash and the ultimate manipulator. I can't wait for his daughters to figure him out.  Still, I can't help but be intrigued by his cunning ways. There has to be more to his movitations than what was presented so far.

Each of the four sisters got their struggles, and l'm rooting for them all the way. They are definitely "Misguided", as the title implies. The family drama in this book is wild – it's like watching a real-life soap opera! There are so many unanswered questions and plots to unfold. It's driving me crazy, but I love it!

I usually don't read incomplete series, but here we are, patiently waiting beside my Kindle for part two. I have no idea how it's all going to play out and looking forward to what's next.

characters weren’t likable

The story was okay. I liked that the girls were bosses in their own right but their dad was definitely pimping them out. All of the Toussaint women were spoiled and childish. They honestly weren’t likable and seemed to cause drama everywhere they went. They have a lot of growing up to do. The story didn’t really flow for me. This book needed a lot of commas. So many run-on sentences. I really had to read some sentences multiple times to get what the author was saying. A lot of the book was repetitive as well. The sentence structure was horrible. Why doesn’t Boston have a M name? Way too many outfit descriptions. The amount of clearing of throats was excessive.

loved it

Yes I love these sisters. They are soooo misguided but I can’t wait to see how their journey to enlightenment turns out. Poor little Boston, I felt the worst for her. She was sweet. Maia truly needs the therapy she’s in and I want her to realize that. Malanie is listening to her Dad and is going to completely mess up her marriage. The oldest sister is so much like her father, power hungry. She may soon see that their is more to life than power and status. I can’t wait for Carlos to get whatever is coming to him. I have a couple scenarios of how this may play out but I’m sure I’ll be wrong lol. Well on to book 2.

So much drama in so little time

I enjoyed this story even though some characters I cannot stand. Masami for one but Lyfe served her some humble pie and I hope Maia serves her some more with the truth about why she was dealing with Kygo. Carlos...I despise parents and people like him with that MOE mentality. That's whack. Lastly YASEER GOTTA CATCH A FADE! Mei gave him an inch and ran a marathon. Him and his mistress gotta get that work cause the audacity of him to have a full blown public affair when she said he could go to THE OFFICE not in his office.

So…

I initially started reading this book in May, but stopped because I had some things going on. I picked it back up two days ago and I’m glad that I did. This book was well written, flowed well and kept my attention. There are still a lot of unanswered questions and I can’t wait for book two. Carlos Toussaint really irked my nerves and I am looking forward to his downfall. Definitely a book worth reading.
