Excerpt from a " This coming-out book is informative and enlightening, and will definitely give the lesbian-rights activists a much-needed boost. Composed of essays, short stories, and poems, the anthology "Tibok" gently lead us into the inner life, inner struggle and external gains of lesbians. SA WAKAS, Nabasa ko na ito pagkatapos niya tumengga sa 'Want To Read' pile ko nang ilang taon!! Maraming salamat sa kakilala ko na nakakita ng kopya sa library niya, hiniram, at pinabasa rin sa akin.
Onto the serious review: this is a touching, riveting time capsule-esque collection of Filipino lesbian writing that allows its readers glimpse into the thoughts, experiences, emotions, friendships, relationships of the Filipino lesbians and sapphics of this time. I know that it is one of the first, if not THE first, anthologies of its kind. There may be some out there asking: where are the Filipino lesbians? Where are the Filipino sapphics? But the thing is, we are everywhere. We are neighbors, friends, siblings, relatives, colleagues, mall-goers, everyday workers, weekend travellers, or the ignorable passerby. I think people asking for representation should look harder, more intentional, more specific, more seeking. I think people should listen to the voices of these Filipino lesbians and sapphics better, tune their ears and filter out the noise, and realize that the very people you are asking representation for are already carving spaces for their own visibility. Those are things I am reminded of when reading these stories, comics, interviews, essays, letters. Those are narratives I, as a young lesbian, am blessed, privileged, and ever so lucky to ever witness.
