Searching For A Whole Heart is a passionate telling of Pastor Andy McCrory's short, incandescent life written by his wife, Katrina McCrory Dewrell.
The book is so personal it felt like reading someone’s private journal instead of a memoir.
The book details Andy and Katrina's travels from Alabama to Louisiana and then back to Alabama all the while chronicling the burdens that are placed on a family that chooses a career in the church.
It was interesting to read of Katrina's difficulty confronting not only her family's personal problems but also the problems of the Assembly of God congregation at the same time.
Being the first lady of a church is not a job for the meek, especially while working an outside job and raising two children.
Although this is undoubtedly a book about Andy, by the time the reader has finished, it feels more like a catharsis for the author.
Dewrell has a light touch with her prose and mastery of exposition and character development. This is not unusual for a seasoned writer but extraordinary for a nascent, self-published author. Searching For A Whole Heart is an entertaining, well-paced story, told with emotional creativity.
