Scout Team Obsidian has been stood down after an especially brutal mission to reacquire a stolen mech called the Atlas. During that mission team leader Jacob Brown lost his left hand and eye. He is still adjusting to his new prosthetics and was looking forward to a well-earned vacation.
That will have to wait, however, as a new mission tasking has come down from the very top… and it’s a big one. Someone has been preying on colonist ships and refugee pipelines in the frontier regions. Millions have already been abducted including hundreds of thousands of humans.
Scout Fleet has been ordered to find the missing people and find the ringleaders of the trafficking operation. Admiral Marcus Webb needs his very best, and that means Captain Brown and the rest of his crew. Obsidian is now racing the clock to find the missing people and determine who is running the operation before Earth’s leadership does something rash.
I really like the main characters in this book. I've read all of the books in the series. There was a couple of times that I laughed out loud at some of the banter between the guys.... I hope to get to read about Lucky back with the other team.
Another fantastic installment in the series! The author's style of writing and character development keep me coming back for more! After reading all the titles in this series as well as OF, I feel like I know all the characters and have served with them lol! I can't get enough and Mr. Dalzelle can't write fear enough!
Team Obsidian is very busy with multiple missions that are not always understood as what the goals are. We get a tiny cameo via a “phone call” from Jason Burke just to get some continuity with the Omega Force series. The similarities are very pronounced since the team is put into situations that echo those of Omega Force, especially when Jacob is thrust into action in ways similar to what happened to his father in his early career. This book ends with an unsettled situation so that the reader is unable to tell whether the series is drawing to a conclusion or if Dalzelle is getting ready to spin off characters into one or more new series. It will be interesting to find out…
Mostly plausible. But there were a few blooper mistakes. Like healthy humans passing out at atmospheric pressure of 8000 feet...8000 meters under stress maybe. But the highway drive over Pikes Peak is around 14000 feet and unpressurized US planes are licensed to y at 14000 feet. Mount Everest 29000+ feet has been climbed w/o oxygen. I am guessing 8000 feet stuck the author's mind due to US airlines normally pressurizing to 5000 and often declaring 8000 pressure for emergency use...although it's standard for many foreign carriers. But keep in mind that airlines commonly carry people who are not fit or healthy.
This is a series that shows how an author can smoothly work multiple series story arcs throughout the current book and keep them fresh. No heavy handedness or long re-engagements. Just a touch here and a touch there.
It’s like bumping into old friend in an airport. If the reader is a fan of the series that engaged in each story, as can happen in our airports, it is an ”Oh, wow. Great to see you!” where the relationship briefly, pleasantly resumes.
★★★★★ Great book! Can’t wait to read it again (and I will). ★★★★☆ Good book. I am glad I read this. ★★★☆☆ OK book. Nothing special but not bad. ★★☆☆☆ Not good. Why did I waste my time? ★☆☆☆☆ Lousy. I didn’t finish.
If for whatever reason, I go back and reread a good book, I will change the rating to five-star because I read it again.
Another excellent installment in this series and the overall Omega Force universe. It really feels that the characters in this series are coming into their own and distinguishing themselves from the other Omega Force characters. It's interesting to see more story unfolding from a different perspective that all still meshes well with the overarching story if the surrounding universe.
The Omega force universe just keeps getting better. Love these adventures of Jason and Jake. The way they are interacting is great. Can't wait for the next installment of adventures.
After Omega Force discovered a major trafficking ring of humans, Scout Team Obsidian is sent to look for the missing and find evidence of who is in charge. Good edition to the series, as the now established characters, look for answers and to put things right.
Still keeps up the high standard I have come to expect of the author Interesting asides where Jacob talks to his Dad, the interaction of the crew and the obvious planning of the admiral all make for a complex background that lends nicely to the primary story
Omega Force, and Terran Scout Fleet continue to get better & better! Every adventure delivers what faithful readers have come to expect from the best science fiction author of our time.. "Joshua Dalzelle!"
Once again the author has written a fine book that had me losing sleep - again. A wonderful plot line and I expect more to come. This universe has unlimited possibilities: Dalzelle is the one to bring them forth for our reading pleasure!
This was a good end to a 5 book series. The entire series has been well written progress well With twist and turns that kept the reader engaged. I Believe this book tied up loose ends while leaving enough open for another book.
Just another great book in the series. Can’t wait to find out what will happen with Jacob and the crew with the new world order following Earth’s move out of the Cooperative!
This was a good book in the series. This book slightly ties into the main series as the plot ties in the being trafficking occurring. The characters grow in understanding of the overall universe.
Enjoyed getting together meet Glen Mitchell and understand his motivation to protect his daughter. As usual games are a foot and the team lead by Captain Brown have to step up
Resolves a lot of behind the scenes fights well. The only negative is that the death of the Seattle race was a little too convenient. I'm looking forward to more of this series.
Good pace, and the action is very well written. This series of books is shaping up to be one of my favorites, and I am looking forward to the next book!
I love Joshua Dalzelle's books. His Omega Force series is outstanding. The Terran Scout Fleet connected to Omega Force is also Great. Can't wait for the next in both series!
