Love this book and this author ,,,,,this story is about Daniel Fenelli adopted son of Don ‘ joe Mafia boss a lot are still keeping there eyes on Daniel but he proves helpfull when he meets Tarquin Ballard the IT expert when things start happening after they meet Daniel becomes protective to the point he undercovers Something going on with Liam and Tarquin but that not the end we will find out more in the next book and maybe it will come out on what happened to Daniel before when he was young and also what happened to Tarquin and Liam and others,,,,,,,can’t wait to read the next book,,,, I read this book for this author

Welcome to the world of mafia were the good and honourable ones fight the ones that don't have any principles and are capable of everything to gain revenge and power.
We are witnesses to how poor souls are victims to secrets and machinations of those of power and are neglected so that ego and pride could prevail.
Two scarred and wounded soul try to find their way to each other but outside forces and evil plans that were put in function as well as the horrors they leaved try to interfere.
I also liked the scientific part of story as well as the brilliant minds that make a special team, and helps in tipping the balance on the good side.
The intricate spider web that comes to light is one masterfully executed and is hard to get free from it.
It was an interesting read and I'm looking forward to see what happens next with our beloved characters.

I've enjoyed all of H.M. Wolfe's series entries, but this one has gone right to the top of my list. We have so many things I enjoy here. First, there's the fact that our characters are trying to do a job while dealing not just with individuals (and as always with Wolfe, there are some amazing evil characters in this story that you will hope get what's coming to them) but they are dealing with institutions and we get to see both the positives and negatives of being part of those institutions such as the police force, the mafia and the crime fighting team. There's a nice amount of geeky stuff since Tarquin is a computer guy and we see how the special skills of the team members blend. I cannot wait to read the second part of this!

Daniel and Torquin...these two burned so bright together they were incandescent. This wonderfully well-written world is just layers and layers of engaging moments and characters that make almost impossible to put down. The next book can't come soon enough.

Torquin Ballard is a IT genius working for a crime fighting organization. He is struggling with something that has devastated his life. It has left him a shell of what he was. I loved The Base: The Beginning (Daniel Part 1) and struggled to put it down. The story flowed well and I enjoyed reading Daniel and Tarquin journey.
