Jonahmae Pacala (publishing as Jonaxx) was never fond of reading longnovels during her elementary years but found a deep connection with sshort sad stories. She discovered her flair for writing at the early age of ten. What was once a hobby has now grown into a passion for writing online.
This book has no business being this GREAT. A magnum opus. A chef's kiss. Optimis optimus. Jonaxx's narrative (or let's say, Raica's narrative?) transports us to Cebu as if we were there, as if we were Real and Raica's classmates. To Alabang as if we were bodyguards just like Raica and Isabel. To Manila as if we were Raica's next door neighbours. I found so much affinity with Raica and Real as if they were my 'parents' to the point I wanted to share their dying pains but also wanted to join them in hailing their survival against Bryan the twat, against the judgemental eyes of the police, against the dark past that Raica was dying to forget and escape from, against the trauma that Real suffered from the hands of Raica's former syndicate.
SERGEANT RAICA TAVAREZ IS MY ENTIRE PERSONALITY RIGHT NOW. I couldn't put this story down. Totally, completely worth it. It's perfection. And I just savoured 'Wakas' tonight before rereading this again because I love Real and Raica so much. This couple is all I can think about, so if you haven't read it yet, you've got to. So, so good. I have never felt so much, so deeply, so quickly before. I am so moved I don't know where to go from here. What I would give to suffer from dementia so I could read this story all over again.
This story might be done, but I certainly isn't.
Just a heads-up: I'll even read Ate J's grocery list at this point.
idk it feels poorly written. the first few chapters is basically the same as the first installment—ugly, payatot boy tapos biglang glow up. it’s kinda overused. and then ang unrealistic pa kasi he starts catching feelings for the girl who kidnapped him? tapos nagka wet dreams pa siya about her like… huh??? ang unrealistic lang na ilang beses ka nakidnap tapos na inlove ka sa kidnapper mo?? and i don’t see any hint of actual trauma in how he acts.

Characters: 1. Well, what can I say? Real's love is beyond the world for me. 'Cause, just imagine loving the same person who brought you trauma? Who does that? Real definitely did. And also, I love how he is such a disney princess to Raica, just thinking about it makes me want to laugh so hard. 2. Being raised in the grey part of the society, definitely can hone a mindset of a child. Raica might believe and done wrong things, but what makes her character compelling to me is that at the end of the kidnapping scheme in the story, she chose to do the morally right deed. Andddd, at the end, I really like how she finally learn how to really love and found a place she could definitely call home with Real.
Story: Rara Avis is definitely a 360° turn to all previous Jonaxx's series, but hell, it definitely worth it to read, and reread. I love how Jonaxx is opening the minds of her readers to be aware to the significant issues society is facing today. In this story, it tackles about how a child can be honed by what they are witnessing in their environment. So, I can't really hate Raica on what she believe before, as she was just a victim on where and to whom she was raised. Definitely, for me 5/5

This is really good. Like really good. At first I'm a little bummed out with how Raica was written, it seemed a little like she's just bad at whatever she does and that she needs saving at everything. So, I was really glad that she was given her own time to shine, she actually proved the damsel in distress allegations wrong. I love how Jonaxx wrote Raica to be her own hero in her own way, without emasculating Real, I also loved how she made everything realistic on everything as well. What stopped me from giving this a 5 star is that Real's POV is not as detailed as I would've wanted. It felt like a skim through and the ending also felt rushed. (Might add some more detail on this comment)
"I promise you everything. I promise you a free world. You will never be judged again. You will have a family you can call your own. You will never feel lost, or displaced. You will have a home."
Love is complicated. It's hard to fully grasp the complexity of it all. When you love, you love. Hays! Another great read that brought me out of my reading slump. Jonaxx never disappoints. Will surely miss Raica and Real 🫶🏼
"Shh...Raica. I’m falling in love again. Please...just stay quiet as I feel it."
i stopped reading jonaxx books years ago kasi let’s face it pare-parehas lang talaga ng plot. lalo na yung CLS.
pero i love Rara Avis Series. hindi man lang naghunos dili si jonaxx isulat to pano kung hinika ako at namatay? charot.
this book is gripping from start to finish. i know how that kidnapping scheme will end up pero di ko matigil sa pagbabasa. i think jonaxx snapped sa series na to talaga.
this series should be her defining moment. her magnum opus. at hindi na yung until trilogy at costa leona series. grabe ang improvement sa writing talaga.
real!! hangga rin ako sa CaReal kasi grabe rin pinagdaanan nila but good to know they overcome it together and na achieve yung deserve nilang happy ending.
UGH MY REAL & RAICA, oh please. I love them so much to the point that I finished this in one sitting. my emotions while reading this: 😌😧😡☹️💔🤬🥰💕💋😽❤️🩹🫶🏻🤬🥰❤️🩹
SOOOO MY TYPE OF GENRE! it’s full of painfully undeveloped storylines, but we roll. i really wanted more of Real losing his shit over everything Raica went through. i wanted to see Raica finally telling Real she got shot after he was rescued; Real watching the videotape Bryan filmed— cue him losing it; Real taking care of Raica after the assault; Raica crying to Real; Real crying to Raica; Real noticing the cigarette burn on her. so many things we could’ve had!
the trope is just so,good— you don’t understand how much it means to me. literally obsessed. and the prologue starting with them stabbing each other?! me: instantly hooked. i just wish we got more moments of them comforting each other.
