The unexplainable appearance of a huge monolith in a field might be nothing to get excited about, but add in a local man raving about ghostly, glowing, inhuman figures in the woods, and now it’s a mystery that ticks all Edgar Corey’s boxes.
He wants to prove his worth to the man who hired him, and with business slow, this case is just what he needs to attract some interest. His snooping, however, is not welcomed by all.
Undeterred, and joined by Poppy, a willing believer in all things supernatural and unexplained, Edgar finds himself in a remote town in the Appalachian Mountains where local legend has it that extra-terrestrials have visited and may still reside.
The police are unwelcoming, especially when they discover Edgar is poking his nose into a series of crimes they don’t want outsiders to know about – it’s their business and no one else’s. So when Edgar finds himself a target, he cannot be sure whether the warning came from the people behind the spooky occurrences or local law enforcement. What if those are one and the same?
In a deadly race against time, Edgar and Poppy must uncover the truth or risk becoming part of the legend.
Investigate the paranormal? Why didn’t he just say no?
Set in the same world as the original Blue Moon Investigations series, Blue Moon Appalachia provides nerve-tingling thrills, unexpected humour, and a whole heap of fast action.
Barry Napier is the author of The Cooper M. Reid series, The Bleeding Room, Bound, Break Every Chain, Nests, and several other titles. His books span a wide range of genres, from paranormal thrillers to Christian adventure.
He works as a ghostwriter while working on his own titles. He enjoys coffee, ambient music, and irony.
I want to like this series, but it's hard. The writing is amateurish and it seems it was was written by a teenager. There is no way that adults act like these two especially one that used to be an FBI agent. Well, maybe that's why Edgar used to be an FBI agent 🤷♀️
Most of the book is Edgar pining for Poppy, the other MC. Yeah we get you have a crush on her but we don't need to be reminded of it every 3 pages. Showing up at a crime scene uninvited is ridiculous. Running around in woods that you have never been to in the middle of the night is really dumb. Getting involved in small town issue in a town in a state you don't even live in is asking fore trouble. Everything that happens seems so far fetched and unbelievable that liking this is virtually impossible.
Awesome BlueMoon Alpachia book 2 Edgar Corey is finding his feet and has an ally in the shape of Poppy much to his delight . It’s been over a week since he accepted Tempest Michael’s offer to join the Bluemoon franchise. He’s already had the business cards printed but he’s yet to relay the information to his cohort…. The two travel to investigate a sudden appearance of a Monolith ( it’s like an obelisk but not) and stumble upon a Mystery indeed , the town seems very anti Solar energy and the evidence is overwhelming but what has this and the Moon eyed guardians to do with it? Ancient Alpachian myths about white skinned people who guard the moon eyes go back to the Cherokee era and the lore lives on in the surrounding areas family generations. A very well written suspenseful Mystery following in the same vain as the successful Bluemoon series . I read an advance copy of this book and my review is my own words voluntary
Another wonderful book by Steve Higgs and now Barry Napier! Debunking what appears to be paranormal seems to be a good business. Our hero Edgar is just getting his feet wet. The one thing that strikes me as funny is that all these guys seem to get hit over the head or other parts of their bodies but come out of it being OK. It just seems crazy that they put themselves into so much danger. But, this wouldn't be so unnerving otherwise. And of course doing all this when its pitch dark out sure adds to the suspense. So thanks guys for another great book. I'm really looking forward to the next one.
Book 2 in this new series definitely surpasses Book 1. Edgar finds himself taking a 3-1/2 hr drive with Poppy to see a Monolith in an old tobacco field. Where it came from or how it got there is a mystery to everyone around. A trip to a local diner has them seeing signs everywhere that say "no solar". Whatever do these things have in common? And what about these Moon-eyed people scaring people half to death? You're just going to have to figure it out for yourselves. Great read!
Moon eyed people... The thing about superstitions is that there is always someone willing to go the extra mile to find the truth of things. I've always been a problem and puzzle solver in my personal life as well as my professional life. One thing I learned early on - if you want to get down to the nuts and bolts of a problem one must be willing to not just follow each clue, but to remember to think outside the box. Another great mystery by this author! Job well done!
When starting this series I was concerned that it would just be a repeat of the original England series, just in a different location. In some ways it is the same, but different enough to capture you on its own. I have read two and am looking forward to reading the third in this series. I have come to the conclusion that Steve Higgs could never write a boring book.
I am enjoying this series. Edger is genuine and honest as a character. He is a very different investigator for the Blue Moon series. I love that little seasoning of belief that peppers his character. He has to work his logic. It makes him real and relateable. I can't wait to see how this develops
This was yet again a very incredible and amazing story! I liked this one a good deal more than the first one , even though it was very good, as well! The two sleuths actually make a very good couple of good guys!! I enjoyed reading this story and can hardly wait to start the next in the series!!
I really like the main Blue Moon Investigations series but the spin offs - Sacramento, Boston, Australia, and here Appalachia just aren’t as tight, as funny, or as well-written. This one is typical - good, not great, ok but not compelling characters, just not as much fun. Sigh!
Edgar Corey and Poppy are on another case. Poppy finds an article about a mysterious Monolith that just appears in the middle of a field. She asks Edgar to go with her to investigate it, and things get really interesting. Exciting and easy to read. I enjoyed this book quite a bit.
Trying to understand where the Monolith comes from and what power it has turns out to be a major investigation for Edgar and Poppy bringing to us - readers - an exciting and fun story to read. I thank Mr. Higgs, Mr. Napier, and their publisher for this ARC.
Great characters and a gentler story without all the blow by blow fighting of the first Boston book. I really enjoyed this story and the relationship between Edgar and Poppy.
Confronting the unexplained ties into folklore tales from the past. A huge monolith is discovered in the middle of a fight eld with no clues how it got there. Edgar and Poppy try to determine if it's a real folk object or a hoax.
I love these Blue Moon related series. I had never heard of these artifacts or the people who supposedly built them. I can see people in a similar situation actually doing something like this. I am looking forward to more Edgar and Poppy adventures.
Love Steve higgs and read everything he has written and has been involved with. Wasn't sure at the start of this series but Edgar is growing in me, we'll written books as always and the characters are forming nicely now. Can't wait to start the next instalment
This is obviously not written by Steve Higgs but its not a bad story. There is no snark and no comic relief. Kind of like " just the facts ma'am". In other words just a telling of events and no character building.
Two books in, I still don't like Edgar as much as I like Tempest... Sorry...that said, the story lines have been interesting enough that I will probably read the rest of these as they come available. Read and enjoy.
Great second book again a really enjoyable plot the characters really work well together and the world was believable you get to really wish you could join in a well earned 5 stars
I love the Blue Moon books all of them!! This one was great! A story line that not being from that side of the US were new to me. Or was a great story with a lot of folklore that made it awesome. This is going to be a great series!!
I had a little problem getting involved with this story. Corey and Poppy investigate another mystery, but it doesn't go smoothly. The story went in several directions and I had difficulty seeing how it was all connected. It wasn't a great story, but OK for me.
Easy breezy read. I've not heard of the Moon Eyed people before, that was really interesting. I preferred the first book to this one but it was still enjoyable. Not a fan of Poppy.
