Komi books are 90% sorta humorous fluff with the giant ensemble cast that I'm tiring of over the long run and then 10% relationship stuff with the central couple that keeps me coming back. It would be silly to leave 90% of the pages blank, but the way I'm reading now, they might as well be.

Turns out that all Komi needs to communicate is a game of Among Us, or its legally distinct parody. There’s also a lot of talk about kissing and the manga’s power couple gets a little more spotlight.

It’s almost somewhat calming, like the rise and fall of the tides, that the continued quality of Komi ebbs and flows depending on the scenario and characters. Except I can’t just skip the duds and low tide is ahead for this volume.

This might be my curmudgeonly forty-plus years of gaming talking, and given the popularity of Twitch I believe this to be completely my issue, but watching other people play video games is typically very, very boring to me.

I’m passingly aware of Among Us, though undoubtedly this version has a pun to it that is left for the English reader to just assume the translation doesn’t want to share for some reason. But not enough to get at all excited at this parody.

There are some amusing moments, and the ending does encapsulate the intense frustrations that can erupt when playing a social deduction game with players who don’t want to acknowledge any logic, but it is a bit long for what it is.

It does give Komi a chance to strut her stuff and really get into it, which I did like, and it was a nice (and cute) touch that Tadano is so shrewd that he knows when she’s lying every time.

I wish it just had more oomph. This is the same problem I had with that huge classroom war arc a couple volumes back too. They drag in a huge number of the cast and boy do I have no idea who had what personality trait any more.

Anyway, it’s a lot of pages spent on something fitfully engaging, which is too bad, as there are some gems amongst the rough, as usually happens with these.

The best stuff is focused on Naruse and Ase again - starting with a really funny chapter where Manbagi starts to suss out that something is up between them, which leads to the revelation that they are, in fact, dating.

Which, yay, but is then followed up with some ridiculous girl talk and an especially ridiculous digression into the nature of kissing (and lust!) that brings an energy and level of antics I wish the rest of the volume had. It’s both fun and smoothly brings Tadano in at the end to cap it off.

The stuff with the little sister character who is basically Komi if she was gregarious is okay, although the line between gregarious and obnoxious is razor thin, let me tell you. It’s not a great combo with the dragged-out parody from earlier.

The soccer match with the guy who can’t talk to girls, who does manage to talk to Manbagi for one sentence and you can tell that’s a pairing in the making, is fine. Most of the fun comes from Manbagi, who remains the finest creation in the series. Basically, there’s just too much gristle and not enough meat.

3 stars - categorically uneven, but that means next volume should be really good, if I’m reading this chart correctly. And, hey, if you’re really dying for a video game parody, this might really tick your boxes.

There are 5 chapters dedicated to them playing among us and I really don't know how to feel about that 😂😂😂

I find Ase and Naruse getting together so weird but good for them I guess.

3.5/5 ( this is my score from vol 25-28 - the latest update)

First of all, i feel like after Komi and Tadano dating, all its matter already less interesting. I just want more progress about them, kissing, proper dating, married, having kids (?) I just want more Komi Tadano moment. All focused keep only for Komi.... with Tadano involved, and some of friends too.

But more to read, the author seems wanted to share the equally plot for side characters and add MORE new characters.... Which are SO MANY characters there try to be recognized into the surface by getting more panel and own story. I didnt complain for Manbagi, Ase, all main Komi's friends who already important since the last volume. Im happy for their happiness.. But Komi is getting less-spot after that.

I know i keep forget that the direction of this manga is to make Komi having 100 friends, and improving her communication skill. Which is i realized, how the manga is giving a less spot for Komi more the friends coming into her list. Furthermore, Komi not only gain friends, but also rival (like in the last update), which is a good way to put some drama , but also i feel like it lose the "fun" finding way of making friend like all this time.

But i will never drop this book. I never said its boring too. Every moment of them are funny and still entertaining. And all my goals reading this for Tadano Komi married. I only wish the author never lose the composure of their writing style for this manga. 300++ chaps and too many charas and for a romance comedy book, must be difficult to handle.

Still great, loved this volume. I wasn't excited about the Among Us chapters, but they ended up being very cute and enriching for several secondary characters. There's still somewhere to go with Tadano and Komi as explored in the back half, and we got another genderqueer character who I very much enjoyed.

Still super heartwarming and cute!

Half of this volume was dedicated to some easily forgetful and very long game of Tomohito Oda's version of 'Among Us'; Komi's reactions there were interesting, but the whole thing was mostly a waste of space and time.

Luckily enough, the rest of the volume was good enough to make up for that first half, with lots of cuteness and featuring, for the most part, some of my favorite characters: namely, in this case, Wakai, Katai, Naruse and Ase. Plus Tadano and Komi's interactions were outstanding, and the main reason why we keep coming back to this series, right? Who cares about he list of friends, come to this point...

I didn't like the first half, while it was probably really funny when it was published having half the volume be an Among Us game hasn't really aged as nicely. The second half was cute though!

Notwithstanding a six-episode interlude in which new-phone-Komi dedicates myriad free time to a mobile game with a dozen of her classmates . . . KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICATE v27 is the usual fare. The book offers a handful of comical exchanges in which Komi grows comfortable with her peers' odd predilections, but on the whole, one can tell from the onset that 60+ pages of filler content, in the middle of the volume, typically means readers won't be spying any major relational breakthroughs for a while.

On the plus side, an early chapter in the current volume showcases the snail's-pace growth and maturity of Komorebi Hiki, the super-tall and super-shy girl (and cousin to country kid Nokoko Inaka). Hiki still struggles, on the regular, with discerning her place in the world. Fortunately, she's blessed with two good friends who delight in making fools of themselves for a good laugh among pals. Salmon fishing, for example, doesn't quite go as planned for Hiki and her buddies, but there's plenty of fun to be had. Susumi Shujo, true to her name, is bubbly, aggressive, and unafraid to jump in and do something different; and Aoi Netsuno, despite always shouting and always being aggressive, always asks if everyone is okay.

Elsewhere, the book hazards a brief look into the emotional travails of Taketoshi Wakai, whose inability to converse with women typically grinds him into nothing in no time. Wakai is featured on the school's soccer team, and it's about time for a regional tournament. Several classmates turn out to support the team, but why is Manbagi there?

Also in KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICATE v27, an emergency meeting of the girls' gossip council is assembled. The group (Ase, Sasaki, Kato, Komi, Manbagi, and a semi-conscious Isagi) convenes to discuss the (not so) startling revelation that Ase and Naruse are officially dating. Who confessed to whom? What was the response? Have they kissed yet? As if poor Ase wasn't already as nervous and sweaty as it gets...

I picked this up as part of my continuation of this series.
“Komi Can’t Communicate, Vol. 27” continues to follow Komi and her new friends as they grow closer during their high school years. In this volume, Komi unintentionally breaks her cellphone, a flip phone, and her parents buy her a smartphone to replace it. Now that Komi has the latest technology, she can play games with her new friends.
I really enjoyed that this volume took something so mundane, like having to purchase a new cellphone, and made an entire story about how Komi used this to strengthen her relationships. I really appreciate when this series highlights how far Komi has come in her friendship making quest.
The game that the group ended up playing felt really high stakes because they were trying to figure out who the imposter was. This was the first volume where I felt the tension radiating off the page from the characters. This conflict felt like a great break from the norm and helped to move the story along in a fun and fresh way.
Komi has come such a long way since volume one and I really am enjoying watching her grow. She struggled with this game because she was worried about deceiving her friends and them being mad at her after the fact. But everyone was so supportive and Komi realized that so much of her fears are in her head.
I am excited to see how Komi continues to build her friendships.

Komi accidentally drops her old fashioned flip phone in the bath and kills it so now she gets to shop for a new one. This time she joins the modern age and gets a swanky upmarket mobile with a touch screen and internet access! Go Komi! Embrace that social media!

Of course her friends immediately introduce her to mobile phone games and the rest of the story is dedicated to a weird Among Us parody starring most of the characters as versions of those lil' spacemen.

This is quite a fun and quirky interlude with the interesting twist that Komi and the Hater Girl are playing the hidden villains who must kill and sabotage the others in secret to win! Turns out Komi is rather good at being devious!

The other story focuses on the continuing development of Sweaty Girl and Diva Boi's relationship as a couple. Her protective friends stage an intervention but soon learn they have nothing to worry about...

There's also a quick take about Manbagi, Scary Dude and Mr FaintsAtGirls who also happens to be a decent footballer. There's a brutal match he must win but he can barely stand the support of his female classmates without blacking out!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I thought 95% of the book was boring and it didn't pick up until the story focused on Komi and Tadano (p. 178). Yes, I want to know how Komi and Tadano's relationship progresses, but as others have said, the other stuff is getting quite boring and repetitive. I understand the point of the series is for Komi to make 100 friends, but we've been getting inundated with several new characters and I keep getting confused who is who, beyond her close circle of friends. Perhaps because I'm outside the intended audience age I don't find these books as entertaining as they should be anymore (the concept of Among Us was lost on me). I enjoyed the books at the beginning of the series, but now I'm just getting bored. I want more than 5% of a book being exciting Komi/Tadano material, please.

This volume of Komi Can't Communicate is a fun one which to me seems like the ultimate side-story for the creator. With Komi having lost her old (ancient) flip phone, she now gets a new phone and enters into the world on phone games! A "Among Us" type game consumes the majority of the volume and is fun but I was hoping for more to happen and sadly that isnt the case. The coolest part to me is the appreciation of Tadano starts to shine and I think it was due! Then there is a kissing situation that I believe is better to be enjoyed then to be read about here in any summary. Good times as Komi gets better at communicating.

Wow, I think this is perhaps my least favorite Komi. The first ½ to 2/3rds was a parody of Among Us (which admittedly I don't like to begin with, which didn't help), but did do ANYTHING for the story.

The last part was semi-sweet but with, for me, a very unsatisfying ending. I think Oda should consider finishing off the series rather than just dragging it out and letting everything good about it get washed away in the final books.

Though this volume of Komi does have an arc based around the game Among Us that I found quite tedious, the other aspects of the volume were great. There are some adorable exchanges between Tadano and Komi and one of the funniest chapters I've read in Komi where the girls discuss kissing. I love how this series continues to explore its characters in new and exciting ways. I'm excited to see what comes next.

SO the first part of this is literally just Among Us, like straight-up ripoff of Among Us. Which I think means it has most definitely entered into the list of internet memes that may never die along with such stand outs as Numa Numa and cute cat videos. It was not very exciting or entertaining. Like I have watched my fair share of among us matches and it doesn't translate to book that well. Also for as wide and carried a cast of characters we have I don't think the correct ones were pulled for this bit in order to get the most out of it.

The second part introduced yet another over-the-top new character. Which I guess was always going to happen. The premise is to make 100 friends so at some point we have to introduce 100 different friend characters. it is just getting to be a lot because they are all different amounts of ridiculous and I just cannot process them all. Some of them are cool weird and others are just weird weird.

Then there was a brief soccer diversion. (Man I miss Blue Lock, I hope I can get another volume of that soon)

And the final part ... well, let's say that that is where things get a bit more... spicy. (And sweet, just very very sweet) This part saved the volume for me because I was definitely going to give it a worse rating if the only semi-interesting and substantial thing to happen was the Among Us chapters.

In a few years this volume of Komi Can't Communicate, (volume 27), could stand out as the best adaptation/parody, albeit unofficial, of the video game Among Us.

This series is still fun to read as Komi, the eponymous main character, continues her character growth. As a reader, I'm cheering for her to achieve her goal of 100 friends.

Vedremo...

Not the best volume, the video game arc took up too much of the book and was just, ‘okay’. But ‘chili shrimp’ will have me laughing for the rest of my life, (go to page 177). Boy, did I laugh my arse off! The kissing chapters were the best and what makes this manga one of the quintessential romcoms going.

Eh. Some game-playing, where the characters all become ganme icons for much of it, I feel out of that realm and its attempt at adorable cuteness. Lotsa talk about kissing at one point.

I like the bit about Naruse and Ase again who seem to be dating. I like the soccer match and the socially awkward guy who can't talk to girls. I like Manbagi as a character quite a bit here, and generally.
