RATING: 3 Not As Good As the First One Hearts! :)

Midnight Alias, the second installment in Elle Kennedy’s thrilling Killer Instincts series, takes us on a new mission with another member of Jim Morgan’s mercenaries, and introduces us to a new villain for whom killing is child’s play and pandering a means to “level-up” in the mafia. While the suspense element creates an action-packed, entertaining storyline, this installment, sadly, is not on par with what was expected.

Admittedly, the conflict lies with our protagonists and their speedy romance. Luke, the sexy Cajun SEAL, is just as carefree, yet badass, as we remember him from the first book, and Olivia is our resilient, determined stripper caught in the middle, unintentionally, of her boss, Angelo’s, drug-dealing business. Where Luke’s charming character garners much like, Olivia’s evokes a different response. Her resolve to help her mom maybe admirable, yet her annoying and unnervingly idiotic decisions are anything but. Luke and Olivia’s relationship also draws much scrutiny, a combination to the insta-lust, rushed declarations of love, and Olivia just not “it” for Luke or perhaps Olivia’s character falls flat in face of one of Noelle’s kickass Chameleons taking the romantic stage. Whatever the reason, Luke and Olivia’s fruition into a couple didn’t make sense, and ultimately didn’t gain any appreciation.

Despite the failure as a couple, the attraction between Olivia and Luke is palpable with some very steamy smexy scenes. And as always, Luke’s team members all play minor roles, giving us peeks into their personalities, and building our anticipation for their impending stories. As in this case, more than the main couple, Trevor and Izzy captivate with their scorching chemistry – the sparks leaping off the pages – and Derek’s enigmatic character beckons our curiosity to unravel his layers.

Overall, Midnight Alias keeps the balance between suspense, action and romance, and albeit the inadequacy of the romance, the good guys vs. bad guys theme keeps us fully invested to the point where we’re left nothing short of satisfied as we anticipate Trevor and Izzy’s book.

Midnight Alias
continues the story of Jim Morgan’s mercenary crew and Noelle’s chameleon assassins teamed up again in another thrilling mission. We get Luke’s romance this time and who’d have thought the sexy, charming ladies man would fall so head over heels for a woman so quickly, but Olivia drew him in like a moth to a flame.

Olivia went to work as a dancer/stripper when her mother got sick with cancer and her work at a restaurant wasn’t paying the bills. Angelo, the club’s owner and unknown to Olivia, mob guy, zeroed in on her when she started working, but she was always able to fend off his advances. Unfortunately, the situation turned from bad to worse since Angelo took advantage of a situation and now has Olivia under his thumb. She became his “girlfriend”, more from him saying it was so, and now has to think of ways to keep him at bay and not sleep with him. Olivia’s is hemmed in a suffocating position closing in all around her. But she’s is biding her time, saving her money to make her escape. She gets more than a chance to escape when Luke crashes into her life and into her heart.

Luke, the sexy Cajun operative in Jim Morgan’s band of mercenary soldiers is part of the unit assigned by the DEA to track down their undercover agent gone missing at Angelo’s club. The club is partially a front to launder money for the mob in their drug dealing business, and unknown to Olivia, Angelo is an integral part of the operation. When Luke meets Olivia as “Livy Lovelace” her nervous fear sends up red flags and also a potential in with Angelo and the inter-workings of the club, but Luke sees Olivia as more than just an asset to their case. He’s taken with her the first moment he lays eyes on her and as he gets to know her, the attraction burns even brighter.

Midnight Alias
is my third book in the Killer Instincts series by Elle Kennedy while it was my least favorite of the series so far, it still was an action packed, enjoyable read. I think the situation with Angelo, the current villain creeped me out and was a bit unbelievable. I mean, what mob boss would allow his girlfriend, a stripper, put him off and delay sex for more than six months? At any rate, Luke and Olivia’s romance was hot even if a little sudden. I have to say Trevor and Olivia’s chapters caught my attention more than the main couple’s romance and I was a bit crushed by the ending. No worries, though, I just finished the next book, Midnight Games, Trevor and Isabel’s story, and it did not disappoint! It’s my favorite of the series so far. Maybe tied to Midnight Action, Noelle and Jim’s story, but more on that to come soon.

If you’re a fan of romantic suspense, the Killer Instincts series is not to be missed. Elle Kennedy is a pro at sucking you into a story and making it impossible to put down. Danger, excitement, suspense along with a wickedly hot romance is the standard for this series.

Wow. I think I might have liked this latest edition to Elle Kennedy's Killer Instincts series even better than the first one. Which is saying a lot since I really enjoyed the first book (Midnight Rescue). But while Midnight Rescue had the task of laying the groundwork for the series (introducing the team of mercenaries who will be featured in each of the books), Midnight Alias wasn't hampered by that. The story took off right out of the gate and I felt like I already knew (and I remembered meeting!) the characters. And boy was I looking forward to former SEAL/sexy Cajun Luke Dubois's story...

Luke..

The plot:
25 year old brunette beauty Olivia Taylor is a college student, with her sights set on entering law school by the end of the semester-- even though she'd much prefer being a teacher like her mom. But mom's been sick (recurring breast cancer) since Olivia was 16, money is extremely tight (dad died when Olivia was 10), and teaching won't pay the bills. Olivia's been working three jobs to try to stay afloat, and when she sees a way that she can make more money and devote more time to her studies, she takes it...even though it's doing something she absolutely hates...stripping.

Olivia...
 photo olivia2_zpsf818ab2c.jpg

Olivia has an admirer where she works--her sleazy drug dealing, club owner mobster boss Vince. And ruthless Vince wants Olivia so much (to the point of obsession) that he manipulates her into an unwanted relationship after a scary incident that leaves her battered and defenseless. Now Olivia's caught between a rock and a hard place--yes, bossman has paid all her debts, but he eventually expects an intimate relationship. Time is running out for Olivia...can she make a break from Vince and disappear with Mom, college degree in hand and the promise for a better future? Or will Vince press for a commitment that leaves Olivia nauseous at the thought of "paying up"?

Meanwhile, the DEA has sent an agent into Vince’s mob organization, trying to thwart a major drug deal about to go down. But they've lost contact with the agent (is he dead, alive with his cover blown, or is he a turncoat?) Thinking the answer might lie within the strip club, they employ Jim Morgan's mercenaries to do surveillance. Perhaps Vince’s “girlfriend” stripper Livvy Lovelace (Olivia Taylor) knows what happened to the missing agent?

This is where Luke Dubois comes in. The hunky mercenary is sent in to try and get info from the sexy stripper Livvy, and what starts with an extremely provocative lap dance that leaves Luke all hot and bothered ends up with Luke trying to get Olivia out of the mess she's in. Luke and his team make a deal with Olivia--they'll help her free herself from Vince if she helps them get info on the missing agent. Along the way Luke and Olivia develop feelings for each other (unwanted by Olivia) that go way beyond the physical. This is a first for Luke--he never imagined caring for a woman beyond the bedroom. Can he convince a reluctant Olivia (who has "daddy" issues and longs for a steady, "normal", 9-5 man) that he's not just an adrenaline junkie and can offer her the stability she craves?

Well...Luke Dubois was just all kinds of yummy. A dark-haired, dark-eyed sexy alpha, who had it baaad for his woman. I just loved him. I loved the way he was with Olivia; loved how he opened up to her about his New Orleans/Katrina past; loved the confidence and protectiveness of him; loved his interactions with his teammates. Loved everything about him (except that he smoked--yuk!) But I'll overlook that...

Olivia...on paper she was to be admired. The way she took care of her mother, the bad breaks she suffered (losing her father at a young age; being forced to drop out of school, working all those jobs...yes, she had it rough. But there was something about her...it's weird, but sometimes I didn't like her. And I can't put my finger on it. Maybe I didn't like how she let herself be trapped in a relationship (with Vince) that she didn't want, yet she let him pay her debts and . I know he manipulated her and was a ruthless bad guy, but... at times I felt like she used Vince and Luke to get what she wanted, yet didn't want to give in return. Maybe I just was upset with her for not falling for Luke as quickly as I did!

I especially enjoyed seeing Trevor and Isabel again (cannot wait for their book!), and loved all the other mercenaries (and what is up with D? I'm dying to know why he is sooo surly!) Oh yeah, and then there's computer wiz Holden and flirty Aussie Sully...jeez, I want a book for each of them!

If you enjoy fast-paced romantic suspense with hot romance, lots of male bonding, and plenty of action ala Cindy Gerard or Suzanne Brockmann, give Killer Instincts a shot. I think Elle Kennedy is just warming up, and the best is yet to come. 4 1/2 stars

I absolutely love it when women show what they are capable of. When the underestimated gender comes out swinging...the jawdrop is beautiful and almost worth it all. There are two of these women in Midnight Alias. One is the main character Olivia, not very strong at first glance but she's definitely a survivor, and the other Isabella is written into a continued secondary plot line that was carried over from the first book Midnight Rescue. I also really appreciated the nod at drug addiction and the showing of how it can quickly takes over one's life. The setting in this book was sad and anger-inducing for me but I have no doubt this may reflect real life for some. The first book hooked me on this series but this second book sold me on this collection of romantic suspense.

Elle Kennedy is quickly becoming a favorite romance author of mine. She can write character-centered erotic romance like nobody's business. The build up and the pay off, yep. It works. This series excels in all categories: adult romance, mission-based suspense, and team-centered group dynamics. And with each book focusing on a different set of main characters, you never get bored. I'm super excited to only be finishing the second book because that means I have a lot of great reads waiting for me. Check it out!!

4 stars – Romantic Suspense

Thoughts Before Reading:

Ummmm, Ummmm....Yummy! This studtastic cover hunk closely resembles Jed Hill. That certainly looks like his upper body/chest/arms/neck but the face and lips seem different. I think maybe it's the clouds behind distorting his face, but I can't tell for sure if it's him or not. Either way...YOWZA!

Thoughts After Reading:

Jed Hill sure made for a yummy mental picture while reading this book!

My reasoning is pretty simple: This just wasn't as good as Midnight Rescue. I know I probably shouldn't compare books, but I can't help it.

I think a big reason why I couldn't LOVE this book like I loved its predecessor was because Olivia Taylor (the pre-law "heroine" who strips to pay the medical bills of her cancer-ridden mother) annoyed me. So this review (like all my reviews) is entirely subjective - I'm sure that plenty of readers will not be annoyed by Olivia. First of all, I have never read a book with a lead character who is a stripper that I liked. Is stripping glamorous? I'm sure that's dependent upon location and talent. I am in no way bashing the stripper life ... GIRL, if you can exploit a man's weakness to get his money then DO IT. I feel like it's something that NA/contemporaries glorify, thereby portraying it in an unrealistic way. With that being said, I liked that this book addressed a "darker" side of the industry (although I'm not too sure how realistic that is either).

So Olivia is a stripper, one night, she gave a lapdance in the private VIP room for Luke DuBois (who's a bad ass mercenary assigned to follow her). The next day, she's doing her laundry at a Laundromat when she looks up to see "the customer from last night had just walked in". Then she looks at him and thinks "holy hell—why hadn’t she noticed yesterday how attractive this man was". Olivia then clarifies that "“normally the men she danced for morphed into one faceless blur.".
Does this not add up for anyone else? So usually she doesn't pay attention to dudes who get lapdances. Alright, I feel ya on that. So how'd you recognize this guy? If you didn't notice how attractive he was? I'm just confused. It doesn't jive with me. But then again, it's a pretty insignificant thing, I can get by it.

I think Olivia being an ordinary civilian when Abby (the "heroine" from the previous book) was basically the second best assassin in the world, is what made Olivia a boring character (IN MY OPINION). Then there was Luke's description of her as an "innocent seductress", which is probably more reflective of Luke, but didn't help to establish Olivia as the strong lead character I CRAVE.

I also didn't really think the construction of the villain was all that great, he's a drug dealer dude with ties to the mafia, and I can't even remember his name and I literally just finished reading this book an hour ago. For the record, I can remember that the villain in the previous book was called Devlin. This book's villain was apparently a megalomaniac, but he didn't inspire much fear in me. I just thought he was a whackjob, which was part of the point, but he wasn't particularly intimidating (again, in comparison to Devlin ... ugh I'm sorry for all the comparisons).

ANYWAY, despite all its shortcomings (and the persistent racial/ethnic stereotyping), this was a decent story. I think it was a necessary read because a good portion of the book was spent developing Trevor and Isabel's stories, which is the focus of the next book, which I am going to start reading right away ... I just hope it's better than this one!

Two books in I am totally hooked on this series. In this the OP is to find a missing undercover DEA agent who is either dead, in too deep with the mob to get out or has turned. He last made contact while infiltrating a strip club which was a front for drug runners.
The team puts the strip club under surveillance and this is where the majority of the story takes place. I love getting to know some more of the team in this. Trevor is back, in a much better place since the last book ( where he was a mess mourning the death of his fiancé) and is actually lead on the case. Helping out is Isabel who is under cover as a stripper, and Luke the star of the book who befriends the stripper girlfriend of the boss. This is one fast paced action packed exciting read which I highly recommend. 5 stars.

How much can one heroine take?! Olivia is faced with trying to finish school, taking care of her mom who’s in remission from cancer for the third time, paying all their bills with no medical insurance and working. To make ends meet, she’s secretly working at a strip club that her friend hooked her up with and she hates it. The money’s good and she’s saving every penny she has so once she graduates in one semester she can flee the city with her mom. Yup, flee – turns out her boss at the strip club is a mobster, sleazebag and he has Olivia right where he wants her. After she was attacked one night when leaving the club, she killed her attacker, but when she woke up at the hospital it was to find out that Vince got rid of the body, paid off all her bills and claimed her as his. She played the virgin card to stay out of his bed telling him that she wanted to wait and so it’s special for them, and it’s given her some time for now. But this guy is one crazy psycho who’s in deep with the mob and using his strip club as a front for drugs. Enter Luke and his team. They’ve been hired to find out if a DEA agent, working undercover to get information on the drugs running through Vince’s club, has been killed, if he’s still undercover or if he’s turned into a double agent. Luke’s been tasked with staking out the club to find out what’s going on. He sees Olivia on stage and wants her. When he finds out that she’s Vince’s “girlfriend” his team leader wants to use her to get information that only she can, being close to Vince. But Luke’s worried about the danger she’ll put herself in and they make a deal: Luke’s team will help her and mom escape if she helps them get information on Vince. Things don’t go smoothly.

Olivia is very likable and I found myself wanting something good to finally happen for this woman. She’s forced to endure Vince and his dangerous personality, so when she’s meets Luke, he’s almost too good to be true. Olivia craves stability and a normal that she wants in her life, a husband who’s home every night, someone not chasing danger. She has issues coming from her dad that make her believe that “normal” will make her happy. Luke does his best to make her believe that a life with him, even with his unconventional job, would be worth the risk. Elle Kennedy brings the sexy with these two characters. They have some steamy love scenes and their romance made for a nice balance with the death and suspense going on around them. I’m not sure I buy in to their love declarations, as not much time passes during the story, but I’m overlooking it because they were such a great couple to get to know.

There is a wide range of supporting characters that play strong roles in Midnight Alias. I’m already intrigued by most everyone especially a charming Aussie and a really broody operative nicknamed D, who’s dealing with an obvious tragedy in his past and I need to know what his story is. The primary supporting storyline went to Trevor and Isobel, and it’s a build up for their book, up next. Trevor is an operative like Luke, Isobel works for a female assassin and they do have a history together going into Midnight Alias that I assume takes place in book one of this series, which I haven’t read yet. The books read fine as stand alones so I don’t feel like I missed too much, but Trevor and Isobel were just starting to be open to a possible relationship when a promise Isobel made to help someone doesn’t happen, the repercussions hit her hard and she runs away; from her life, from Trevor and it’s a nice little cliffhanger for them that will lead well into their book - I can’t wait.

I did get a little frustrated with Luke's team though. They made it very clear they were only there to find out information about the DEA agent. When discoveries were made about what Vince was doing to the girls who work for him, Olivia wants him stopped so he can't hurt them anymore, but the guys aren't willing to jump right in. I wanted to yell at them to do the right thing and help these girls, but they were dead set on only doing their assigned mission. Thankfully, missions are meant to be changed, so things on that front worked out in the end.

I love to hate a really bad guy and Vince fits that bill. He’s so ruthless, he uses the girls in his club in horrible ways and if they cross him or dare speak up, they’re dead. There’s death, murders, suicides – don’t get too attached to anyone you meet. The deaths worked with the situations happening in the book, but it did get to a point at the end where I thought not another death, no not her! Not him too! I didn’t want to connect to anyone outside the leads for fear that they’d be dead by book’s end.

Midnight Alias is a great mix of romance, with a sexy alpha hero, strong heroine with the weight of the world on her shoulders, and a creepy bad guy that I couldn’t wait to see get his in the end. There’s a strong set up for the next book with characters that I’m already invested in and I can’t wait to see what Kennedy brings us next.

I enjoyed Luke Dubois and Olivia Taylor more than the couple in book 1. I was also excited to see Isabella and Trevor featured in this story.

Jim Morgan’s team was contracted to extract a DEA agent (Carter Dane) that has not checked in for over two weeks. The feds suspect that his cover was blown but they need the extraction team to get him out if he is still alive.
Luke Dubois, Trevor, Derek and Sullivan go to The Diamond Mine strip club, the last known place where the DEA agent was working, to see what club owner Vince Angelo and his mob boss Ric De Luca knows.

Olivia Taylor is a stripper at The Diamond Mine and the girlfriend of Vince Angelo. Luke decided she will be his way into the organization to find out what’s going on. As he gets to know Olivia, he finds out that Olivia is actually a hostage to Vic, and that she is just a college student trying to pay for her education and take care of mother, a cancer survivor.

When Olivia gets conformation of a murder by Vince by the order of the mob boss, Luke decides he has to protect her. It doesn’t hurt that he is so attracted to her and the mission is getting personal for him. Will his feelings get int eh way of their mission?

I was excited to see Noelle’s Chameleons back in action with Jim Morgan’s team. The female agents are just as resourceful as the men so I appreciate the lack of simpering females. There is a good balance of romance, suspense, action and mystery. In addition, I am enjoying this good story as it features the Italian mob, so this one came at a right time. The narrator had an even tone and she kept the story interesting. The characters in this story are developed well, so it's easy to feel connected to the series. I am reading for Trevor and Isabelle to address the unfinished business form book 1.

Well the second instalment of the Killer Instincts series by Ms Kennedy sees the action moving to New York and a strip club no less! With the hunky Luke Dubois getting all kinds of hot and bothered as he watches Olivia Taylor do a bump and grind he will never forget. Luke and his fellow team members have a job to do though and finding the missing DEA agent is their first priority . So if getting close to the girlfriend of a Mob boss is the only way forward well it's a tough job but someone has to do it! Olvia is not at all what she pretends to be though and pretty soon the job gets very complicated indeed.
If you enjoy romantic suspense with unexpected turns then this series is a must read. Although I'm quite new to the authors work I'm very impressed with the story lines she keeps coming up with. Yes to some extent it's almost predictable that the hero will win the girl and save the day but these characters are vibrant and interesting and it's impossible not to cheer for them. Luke and Olivia may be the featured couple here but as with the previous book there's a romance brewing on the sidelines that just helps up the ante . I'm so looking forward to reading Trevor and Isabel's book but frankly all these characters deserve a book of their own. Luke may start out as an easy going free loving type but that bad boy gets tamed by Olivia and speaking of taming there's a certain D who is really wetting my appetite for more!
Fast paced with a truly nasty bad guy. A story that's quite sad at times but that makes it all the more realistic and gritty. The ending leaves the way clear for the next book and I for one can't wait to read it!

I so wanted this to be Trev and Isabel's book but they do put in an appearance. The hero is a former NAVY SEAL and from New Orleans and really smooth with the ladies. The new job their team (Jim Morgan), is to rescue a possibly exposed DEA agent and that involves keeping an eye on a strip club. The heroine is a stripper there but she is also a student who is trying to take care of her mother recovering from cancer. Her mothers's mounting bills forced her to take this job a year ago and then her life changed six months back when a man attacked her and she killed him in self defense. While she was recuperating her boss stepped in against her will and now she is beholden to him, he is her so called boyfriend and is pushing her to become intimate, something which she has managed to put off somehow.

I liked the hero more than the heroine, he was charming while the heroine seemed stupid and reckless to me sometimes, like how she wouldn't skip town when the hero asked her to even if that could expose her mother to danger. And it felt weird, the hero/heroine getting together when the heroine's mom was in residence. But still I enjoyed the book for the most part.

Luke Dubios and his team are called in to find a missing DEA agent and their surveillance is focused on Diamond Mine, a strip club where Olivia Taylor is a dancer. Luke never imagined he'd be attracted to a stripper but from the first sighting of Olivia, he can't deny what he feels. And when word comes in that Olivia may be the key to finding the wayward agent, Luke grabs the opportunity to get close to her.

This isn't what Olivia had planned for her life. All she wanted was a life of stability, to finish her education, make enough money to support her family, meet Mr. Home Every Night For Dinner and settle down. Instead her mother was diagnosed with cancer for the third time and Olivia has been taking off her clothes for the last year to pay the medical bills. The first six months weren't too bad, then a customer attacked her in the parking lot, kicking off a chain of events that leaves her in debt to Vince Angelo, strip club owner and mafia member. Now she's his girlfriend and doing whatever she can to stay out of his bed.

When Luke approaches her about helping his team, she refuses out of fear but when she uncovers some horrifying truths about Vince, she knows Luke is her only chance at saving herself and her mother. As they work together, they give in to the attraction but both agree it can never be serious. Luke isn't looking for a commitment and Olivia knows the former SEAL can never give her the stability she needs. Soon, they discover that love isn't always logical.

I was a big fan of Midnight Rescue, book 1 in this series, and while Midnight Alias has a much different feel it's every bit as good. It's not quite as dark and Luke is a little bit goofy. His feelings for Olivia are something he's never experienced before and leaves him befuddled, causing him to blurt out things he never planned to say. Some were funny, some were sweet, and all were honest, making Luke a fantastic hero. I wasn't as invested in Olivia but the two of them together were perfect.

Heart pounding suspense with plenty of steamy scenes, Midnight Alias is definitely a recommended read for any romantic suspense fan.

He hadn't realized how perturbed he was until he sat down his coffee, opened his mouth, and something unexpected popped out: "I want to fuck her."
Trevor's mouth fell open.
It suddenly occurred to him that he was in the vicinity of the world's last remaining gentleman. "I mean, have sex with her. Make love to her, whatever."
"I know what fucking is," Trevor said dryly. "I'm more perplexed by why you felt that was something you needed to share with me."

Kennedy is always a good pick when you're in the mood for an action packed adventure. Whew!

The Gist: Luke and his team have been contracted to find a missing DEA agent who broke contact while undercover. And Luke meets a stripper. A stripper with some secrets. #HeHadNoChance

Luke and Olivia were, well, they were my first TSTL couple. lol I liked them. I really did. They're good people, hard working, dependable. But dumber than a bag of rocks when it comes to staying alive. It wasn't all the time but goodness they had some choice moments where I just stopped and stared in aw at the stupid coming out of them. lol Lord love em. They were a good mix of steamy and sweet as they tried to figure things out and, you know, not get captured by the bad guys...again. ::snort::

The suspense was nicely done. A nasty mob connected drug dealer obsessed with one of the dancers at his strip club and quite possibly involved with the DEA agent's disappearance. It had a bit of grit and kept things moving along at a nice pace as they tried to track down their missing agent, suss out what else was going on in the strip club and keep Olivia safe.

All in all, Midnight Alias was an entertaining romantic suspense that had me fully invested and ready to see what would happen next. I do enjoy this team of mercenaries and the female assassins they team up with and am having a good time getting to know their individual stories.

Midnight Alias was yet another successful book in the Killer Instinct series! While I can't say Luke made much of an impression on me in the first book, my opinion of him changed by the end of this one. He was one sexy hero who charmed my pants off. He was quite the smooth talking hero and together with his protective side, it didn't take me long to fall for him. His heroine, Olivia, on the other hand, was harder to warm up to for some reason. While I admired her for working her butt off to help her cancer-stricken mother and went through law school at the same time, I never became fond of her as I did with Abby in the first book. I think overall she was rather unmemorable for me. I mean Abby WAS an assassin after all, so it was hard for Olivia to live up to that for me. That being said, I adored the chemistry between Olivia and Luke. They were hot together and there's no denying that. The plot too wasn't as intense as in the first book. This time around, Luke and Olivia, were dealing with Olivia's skeezy boss at the strip club she danced at, who was also in love with Olivia. The whole story line wasn't as engaging, but Elle Kennedy's writing was so addicting that I couldn't stop reading the book. Plus, I loved the glimpses we got to see of Trevor and Isabel and their brewing relationship. I'm honestly dying to devour their book next and I just know that their book will be a favorite of mine! Midnight Alias wasn't my favorite book in the series, but Elle Kennedy's writing and her swoony heroes makes the book hard to put down!

REVIEW: MIDNIGHT ALIAS is the second installment in Elle Kennedy’s contemporary, adult Killer Instincts romantic, suspense series focusing on an elite group of highly trained men and women who are called into action when no one else can get the job done. This is New Orleans’s native/former Navy SEAL Luke Dubois and Olivia Taylor’s storyline. MIDNIGHT ALIAS can be read as a stand alone; some of the previous storyline information is revealed where necessary.

Told from several third person points of view MIDNIGHT ALIAS fast forwards the series six months and follows the search for a missing DEA agent whose last know whereabouts placed him at a strip club fronting for a drug smuggling operation. Luke and his fellow team members have not been able to locate the missing agent but Luke finds himself attracted to a beautiful stripper whose role and character are out of place at the club. What ensues is a building relationship between our leading couple, one Luke hopes to use in ferreting out some information about what goes on behind the scenes at the club.

The relationship between Luke and Olivia is slow to build. Luke’s attraction to Olivia is immediate but Olivia is in no position to fall into Luke’s embrace. Our heroine has found herself in debt to the local mob and her mother’s health is dependent upon Olivia’s continued work. Luke and his team will find themselves pulled deeper into an undercover operation where not only do they discover the whereabouts of the DEA agent but put a plan into motion to take down the local drug cartel. There is some definite sexual tension between Olivia and Luke.

MIDNIGHT ALIAS is a suspense filled storyline with an ensemble cast of characters whose own stories are building throughout the series. Luke’s team of fellow mercenaries, headed by ex Ranger Jim Morgan, have set up shop in Mexico waiting for their next assignment that will place each man and woman on the frontline of potential danger and death. Derek or D as he is called is battling some personal demons and in this his character is about to self destruct or implode. Noelle’s team of female assassins is virtually invisible but Isabel does play a much larger role throughout the story. Unlike the previous storyline MIDNIGHT ALIAS is not as graphically or sexually violent. There are scenes of violence and abuse but the details are limited and mostly in the background; the destructive nature of drugs, drug smuggling and the sex trade does make for some interesting scenarios. Isabel and Trevor’s storyline continues to build and the epilogue points to a dangerous assignment for our female assassin.

MIDNIGHT ALIAS is another well written, intriguing and engaging storyline of suspense and romance. The majority of the action takes place in the final pages of the story as the mercenaries try to uncover the truth about the missing DEA agent. Elle Kennedy has caught my attention with her amazing characters and stories.

Have you had that moment where you felt constantly on edge, thinking when is it gonna end but when you feel it is coming you don't want it to happen? If you love experiencing that feeling, this book is for you.

Story was very fast-paced and action-filled. It is well thought and well written. You will get bombarded with a lot of things but you would never NEVER lose the plot. The author has played all her characters so well that they intrigued me to no end and can't wait to read all their stories.

In this install Luke Dubois and Olivia Taylor were our hero and heroine.

Luke Dubois equals YUM!
A former SEAL and works for Jim Morgan as a mercenary amongst other ex military delicious male species. Luke had many small appearances in the first book and I didn't expect him to be showcased in this install, nevertheless my girl hormones are all happy after this read. As expected, his character is panty dropper gorgeous, very carefree and have never fallen in love.
Their assignment is to find the AWOL DEA who's gone undercover to bust a group of Mafia who launders money.
Luke was assigned to tail a club dancer known as Livy Lovelace then later on get to know her as they believed she plays an important role on their target, Vince Angelo.

Olivia Taylor or the so called exotic Livy Lovelace who works very hard to support herself and her mum who was in her 3rd remission from cancer. Olivia was unfortunate to be "saved" by her boss (Vince Angelo) making her his instant lover against her will.

This book had all the right elements that I look for. With a VERY large cast of believable and very interesting characters this is one astounding read. And the twist! I didn't see it coming. I've read so many books (but compared to others, yes I'm still a small fish in the ocean) and a lot of times I can predict either the twist or upcoming events but this one got me surprised.

Highly recommended.
Giving it 5 stars. Now on to the 3rd book.

Midnight Alias is the 2nd book in Elle Kennedy's Killer Instincts book. Although it can be read as a stand alone the characters and some of the sub-plots are a carry over from book one so I recommend reading them in order.

This book centers around Olivia who is trying to finish school, take care of her sick mother and have a normal, stable life. Unfortunately, she managed to come to the attention of a mob boss who is also the owner of the strip bar she is working at to make enough money to support her mother. She is saving up to "run" but until then she is just trying to get by.

When an undercover DEA agent goes missing, Jim's team of operatives are called in to find him. Luke Dubois a member of the team and he's sure that Olivia is the key to finding the agent. He knows there's more to Olivia and sets out to earn her trust. Luke goes all out to seduce Olivia but it's not long before he's getting more involved with her then he planned.

There is a lot of action in this book but it isn't quite as dark as the first book. This book centers more around the mob more than human trafficking. I liked Luke a lot but I missed some of the Cajun appeal I expected to find with his character. While I also liked Olivia she did occasionally frustrate me. Her inability to let go of the past and also her inability to follow orders during what could be very dangerous circumstances bothered me. Both Luke and Olivia were strong, smart characters that were interesting to read about.

However, once again it was Trevor and Isabella that stole the show for me. These two had just enough scenes together, not enough to take over the book but enough that I thoroughly enjoyed Trevor and Isabel and the sparks that fly between the two of them.

There were also several other members of the team in this book that will obviously have their own book at some point and they are intriguing secondary characters.

Another good read with interesting characters and a fast-paced, action packed, intense plot. Can't wait for the next one.

Midnight Alias is book two in the Killer Instincts series. It is another one of Jim Morgan's mission to take some corrupt, dangerous person down. So Luke, our hero and all the others from Jim's team are keeping a watch on the club and will take down the person they want to when the time is right. You meet Luke in the first book, and I immediately liked him, he is a cajun flirt and very easy going.

Olivia, our heroine, is working in that club as a stripper. She starts with this job when her waiter job couldn't cover her college bills and her mother's medication when her mother got sick with cancer. She feels guilty lying about it to her mother but she can't help it. She has to study to become a lawyer even though she wants nothing else but to become a teacher like her mother.
Then she gets in trouble and results in being debt of the most dangerous person she knows, her club owner and becomes his girlfriend not to her liking.

And then she meets Luke, irresistible as he is, she can't risk being with because she will put his life in jeopardy. Luke wants nothing more than to be with her. He is attracted to her immediately and wants to save her from every evil thing. But he can't help her, unless she trusts him. At this point, I started feeling like Olivia was being selfish and I liked Luke better. He was always there for her and went in to help her without thinking about any consequences, it was kinda sweet.

You get a lot of Trevor and Isabel. As Isabel is helping Jim too.
Working under And Trevor is the head of this operation. Trevor feels a little more like himself as the time passes. He seems better and is handling the operation well but he can't help himself but think about Isabel. Isabel and Trevor finally come closer and the end! IT is a cliffhanger for their story. I loved their part in this story too.

More Reviews Here: Readers Live A Thousand Lives

This series is crazy addictive. I just cannot get enough of these characters and the action. The whole world and dynamic is awesome and I cannot get enough.

Luke and Olivia are both great characters. I love Olivia because of how strong and resilient she is. She doesn’t give up easily and I really admire that. And Luke is just swoooooooon. I absolutely loved him. I loved his sense of humor and I especially loved how he always said what he was thinking.

I’m so glad I finally circled back to read the books in this series I missed. I started this series in the middle, with Midnight Captive, which is very out of character for me. I always read things in order. But I’m actually kinda glad I went about it this way. I’m having fun going back and seeing how some of my favorites were introduced. I squealed at the mere mention of Sean and don’t even get me started on Sully and Liam. Also, if I didn’t already love D from his book, I probably would have hated him, so it’s a good thing I know him already. But that’s what’s great about this series. Elle Kennedy created a wonderful cast of characters and each character brings something important to the story.

Now that I’ve read four books in this series, I can definitely say that I prefer the books with one of the assassins as the heroine. All of the heroines are strong, but I just really love when the heroine is a kickass assassin as well. I like the dynamic it creates between the couple. I’m dying to get to Isabel and Trevor’s story because I know that one is going to be off the charts.

Midnight Alias was another great read in the Killer Instincts series. The romance and the action keeps you flipping pages. This is easily my favorite romantic suspense series.

Another Five Star for me! I didn't think I was going to like Luke's story, and not because I don't like Luke, it's cause I was so eager to read Isabel and Trevor's story, but alas, I LOVED Luke and Olivia's story.

Again, I simply adore that Elle involves all the key characters whom we love from the previous book, and even more have been introduced to add to the fun...or tension that seems to linger among a few of these operatives.

The Killer Instincts series is a MUST read!!
