Review of The Knights Templar: A Captivating Guide to a Powerful Military & Their Impact on the Crusades By: Captivating History Pop culture has been having an affair with the ideas on who the Knights Templar are and the wild theories about them that the public speculates. This book takes a look at this military order explaining the real history about this group and debunking the theories. The book talks about how good they were with finances, how many castles they had built, and how they were the protectors of Christianity and the world. There is a chapter explaining about how Philip IV of France was responsible for their downfall by villainizing them. There is another chapter that discusses how not only were they warrior monks, but the different tasks that weren’t just about the crusades. This was a good starting point for me to learn the facts about the Knights Templar, but I have to admit I was disappointed to have some of the theories weren’t true. Or at least there was no evidence.
While I am not an historian, or an archeologist, the fascination with the Knights Templar has long been an interest of mine. TV, Movies, documentaries all have their slant on what it means to be one of the warrior monks. They were fierce in their protective duties, economical in their monetary responsibilities and ultimately they were disarmed by the unexpected retaliation from the very Church they toiled for. This Guide brings together the origins, the battles, the diplomacy and the financial institutions that characterized the Knights Templar. I thoroughly enjoyed this trek through the mysteries, the folklore and the legends. Very entertaining and compelling, the truth of these men may be lost to history but imagined in words.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. It was interesting learning about the Knights Templar and how good they were at their financials. Of course greed of the rulers destroyed this and the Knights Templar. Perhaps they should have taken lessons instead.
I have read many books over the years about the Knights Templars fiction and non fiction and this is by far the most complete and thorough edition of their lives and unfortunate deaths. I truly enjoyed the book although I still cling to the idea of them as heroes and as knights in shinning armor. Read this book it is very very good!
A good book that talks about one of the most well-known and controversial organizations in the medieval world, due to its rise and fall, many controversies that led to myth and inventions, whether for better or worse. The book does not focus precisely, like a good part of authors who go for the conspiracy of The Templars, but rather reviews more of their true history.
Found The book quite interesting and laid out in a fashion that even a person such as myself, with no previous idea's about the Templars could find the facts and fables easy to understand .
It would be helpful if the author of this document were to make themselves more visible. The documentation is quite lengthy and consists mostly of URLs, which can be challenging to navigate.
