Mondrian: Flowers

Rate this book
In his introductory text, poet and essayist David Shapiro, author of Abrams' Jim Dine and Jasper Johns Drawings 1954-1984, shows how the flowers contribute to a broader view of the life and work of Mondrian - a view that diverges sharply from the traditional reading of his artistic evolution. Many of the finest flower paintings - hitherto treasured by those who had discovered them in the form of stray postcards and other scattered reproductions - are gathered together for the first time in this book. This was an interesting look at the lesser known vein of Mondrian’s painting practice. The essays were insightful and accessible, and the printed images were well executed.
